Hmmm...well here goes, let's hope I finish this before it's time to head off to school.

1. Why do you run?
It started off as something to do as an alternative to football freshman year since I was sick of it, plus not really all that great. Then it turned a bit more into enjoyment once I realized I had potential after sophomore year of CC. After that it was pretty selfish since I was running more for glory than anything, always worrying about my times being the best on the team and whatnot. Now I've come to realize that it's good to be competitive but I really need to not worry about other people so much and just do my own thing.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
I haven't really done anything particularly amazing in my life, at least not that I can think of, so I'll throw some running things in here. I qualified for state track in the 3200m, and got 2nd in the Conference meet in the same event. At CC Conference meet last week I placed the highest any boy from my school ever has so that was cool. I'm hoping my greatest feat will be accomplished tomorrow though...hopefully I can qualify for the State meet.

3. What is your motto/theme song?
Anything with a good beat that's fast.

4. How do you deal with bad runs?
I try to look on the note that I've had way more good days and one bad day isn't gonna change that.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
No, but it usually gets me fired up and ready to have another good run.

6. Who do you admire most?
I would have to say my coach. I feel bad, but I look at him as a father figure almost more than my own dad. I think it's because the similarities we share. We are 2 of the handful of actual runners in this town, we both love sports, and we both seem very determined. He got me hooked on running by dragging me around to road races throughout the offseason.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
"If you're gonna dream, dream big." I never imagined I'd turn out anything decent in my running, but I hung around and thought how cool it would be to PR or qualify for some meet, and even though it took until my senior year to meet some of my goals, I'm still proud of myself and hoping to achieve more.

8. What do wish you had learned younger?
Start running...I didn't really take running into my own hands until after sophomore year of trck. I ran throughout the summer and in the winter on my own and it definitely showed in my performances. I wonder what point I'd be at now if I had started a year or 2 earlier.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
Be more tolerant. It makes me feel like an ass, but some people I just can't stand. It's not even that they're bad people, it's just they act ridiculously and go out of their way to annoy people. I shouldn't let it get to me but I do.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?
My friends would most likely describe me as quiet and a loner, but my friends through running that actually know me would say I'm extremely outgoing and witty. I'm brimming with sarcastic remarks about everything.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
Short shorts. Oh ya, socks and some showes too. I'm a minimalist kinda guy, lounging around in the summer also includes short shorts and flip flops. I just like being comfortable.

12. What has been your favorite race?
The Bellin 10k in Green Bay. My first big race, and it got me hooked. It has well over 10,000 people, the course isn't boring, and I just love the big race atmosphere. I also love our hometown race on July 3rd, but that's only a block away so that may have something to do with it.

13. Do you have a goal race right now?
State CC Meet, Oct. 27th. I need to make the top 5 individuals at the meet tomorrow though, so it may be quite a challenge.

14. What makes you happy?
When the people I love are happy, my running is going well, and I'm not at work.

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
Hmmm...nothing comes to mind, so I'll tell you about my non-existant love life. All the ladies in my school seem to rather be friends with me, and the girls I really like are my best friends. Plus the ones I like always seem to get a boyfriend before I get the nerve to ask them anything because fear of ruining our friendship.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).
Flounder is an absolutley amazing guy. He started off quite huge and worked his butt of and lost loads of weight and ran like a 37 minute 10k after a year of running. He's also run a 2:45 marathon or something close to it. He's an amazing running mentor for me...I met him on coolrunning when I first started taking running seriously and he's always had good words of wisdom and motivation.

There...I just barely finished, off to school now. I'll be home tonight to answer questions.

what is your favorite book?
Great post, Alex! You're a good guy, but then I already knew that It's fun to get to know you a little more.
About your perceived lack of tolerance? At your age (and at any age) you find people who do stuff just to annoy others. You can be certain that most everyone else finds them insufferable too. Your time and effort is too valuable to waste on them.
Also, don't worry about having a girl friend or anything. Have fun, go out, do stuff and things will work out. If you are keen on a certain someone, see if you can spend time with her in a group or social situation (football game, school activity, etc ...) It's less intimidating than a "date". She'll see what a good guy you are
Finally, re: Flounder. I can't agree with you more. It's neat to see you both here (and still at CR).
Very best of luck at your qualifying meet. You've worked hard .... run smart and good things will happen.

Hey, Alex. I appreciate you starting most of the daily run reports and I'm glad you enjoy high school track; I see a bright future for you!
great post Alex

I sense a great future for you

I also sense a natural born wise ass in you
Great post, Alex. You've learned a lot about running in very few years, it sounds like, plus you're good at it!
Good luck tomorrow, Alex!! Let us know!
Happy is good....sounds like you are on the right track.

As for the chicks...well it's inexplicable, but true that they go for mystery and a hint of danger. Do your next 10K on a Harley and go ballistic when they disqualify you. That'll work.

...of course it will also have every whack chick within 15 miles stalking you.
If your meets or travels bring you down to southeastern Wisconsin, give me a head's up. Always willing to buy an imaginary beer for an imaginary underage friend.
Alex,

High School CC is the best time I ever had as a runner. If you ever find yourself in Door County in the summer, we could meet for a run at Peninsula State Park.

Thanks for the post, Alex. I feel like a proud big brother having watched your running evolve day-by-day in the daily run thread. Your are much more mature than I ever was at your age and I think that's a wonderful quality.

Good luck at the meet tomorrow.

Keep on dreaming big.
So young and so insightful....have a great race tomorrow.
