We had to put down my beloved Airedale due to dementia. That was tough, as her body was physically perfect.

On top of other freaky things she was doing, she would come out of a deep sleep and try to bite little dog. (They were pals, even slept together) One day

she bit my face by accident b/c little dog was by me. No broken skin, but even accidental intent was enough. We knew that

she would never hurt me as she had always been so protective, so we knew she wasn't in her right mind.

We also decided to take her before the situation got really bad or little dog got really injured. We wanted to go out with positive memories.

It was one of the toughest things, ever.

And the dog that passed last month? That was tough b/c during the final injection he had a seizure, horrible thing to watch.

Nothing mitigates the guilt and horror you feel at making that choice about a pet you love.

Rob--your two are adorable!!! I love Boxers!!!

And Powie is just beautiful!
I'm so sorry. There is something special about a kitty. Especially one you've had for 14 years.

She was lucky to have you!!!

That's what DW said. She was lucky to have gotten us (we got her from the pound), and we were lucky to have her. She was the most friendly cat I ever knew. Most cats...well, they can be a little (hell of a lot) aloof.\

It's interesting...As an adult, I've had a few pets.

Pet # 1, cat. The cat disappeared one night. We searched the neighborhood for a flattened cat. Couldn't find her. Didn't bother me that much, although I really liked her. I think that she actually decided to leave...instead of getting killed somehow.

Pet # 2, dog...a beautiful black lab. She had a biting issue. So, at 7 years old, I had to take her to the vet to be put down. I was crying as I walked out of the office. She never touched us, or any of my children...but people over the fence, regardless of who...they were fair game...

Pet # 3, cat...she wasn't the smartest in the bunch. I liked her. Very sweet cat. We had her for over a year. I found her squished on the main road a block from the house. it was odd...because she never left the yard. Don't know.

Pet # 4...the current cat. You know the story.

What bothered me the most? The dog, and pet # 4...which I think, is because I directly caused, or saw, or had something to do with their passing.
