As some of you know, we've just started the latest round of the Virtual Race Across America this morning. It's a simple game: you're on a team; you and your teammates run/bike/swim/work out and get mileage points for doing it; y'all race five other teams some 7000 virtual miles across virtual America and back again. First team to the line wins honor & glory.

Registration closed yesterday afternoon, but I know a lot of you have just mosied over to Kick and didn't know much about us. So we'll reopen registration for a short time.

The VRAA is a great way to keep motivated, get your competitive juices flowing, and get to know some of the folks who frequent this site. You don't need to be a high-volume exerciser to contribute and help your team.

More information about the scoring and such are in the VRAA forum, particularly this thread.

If you want to jump onboard, here's what to do:

(1) Reply to this thread by 10:00 am EST tomorrow morning; let me know you're in.

(2) So that I can keep the teams fairly balanced, when you sign up, please place yourself in one of the following categories. Make your best guess about what you'll average over the course of the next several weeks and categorize yourself accordingly. You won't be punished if you end up doing more or less. Look at the scoring table before you predict; keep in mind that activities other than running will earn you "miles."

(a) Mega Super Badass: You're a sizzling chunk of aerobic machinery, earning roughly 200 points per week or more. You run 50+ miles per week, or run 40+ miles per week plus bike 25ish miles per week, or bike 135 miles per week, or walk a 9.5 mile mail delivery route every day plus run like a beast in your free time, etc.

(b) Super Badass: You're hot & sassy. You run 30-50 mpw or the equivalent, earning 120-200 VRAA points per week.

(c) Badass: You are the backbone of the VRAA. No team can win without a solid core of Badassery. You run 15-30 mpw or the equivalent, racking up 60-120 VRAA points per week.

(d) Badass in Training: Maybe you're in one of them long tapers, or you're aspiring to badassery, or you're really busy right now, or you're crosstraining through an injury. Whatever. I love you for who you are, and I respect you for what you do. And what you do is this: earn 0-60 VRAA points weekly for your team. That's up to 15 mpw running, or 40 mpw on a bike, or 6000 meters of swimming, or a few good days at the gym lifting weights and/or tooling around on them machines. To get closer to the low end up the point range, simply up the Cheetos consumption.
(3) I'll let you know your team at about 12:00 noon EST tomorrow.

(4) Keep track of any scoring workouts you do today and tomorrow morning; report your scores from them after you've been assigned to a team.

(5) Tell your friends. This late sign-up thing will only work if we get a good number of people on board.

If you have questions, drop them on this thread or send me a PM.

And welcome!

What are you looking at? (said in the best badass voice possible)

Ok, seriously, will someone please tell my sister to stop laughing when I say I'm a badass? 'Cause I'm really a light Super Badass but since I'll be away for about 10 days, I'll probably fall down into the badass range for a small stretch...

Can I get a game?
