Steve, a very hearty congratulations on getting your 100 miles! You did great and are a definite inspiration. I kept watching your undying spirit on the track. I wish I would have introduced myself, but when the rain started, all I could concentrate on was getting around the track.

I think I learned one valuable lesson myself at ATY this year: never go commando in Goretex. Hahaha...

Congrats again!

Fred,

I read with agony your post to the ultra list about not being able to get out. It must have been really painful to watch the race.

I too thought that, certainly by Tuesday, the airport would be back to normal. When I flew out of LGA, you were on my mind and I made sure to look at the USAir terminal while taxiing to see what was going on (we flew southwest.) It was almost completely empty. It was actually bizarre to see an entire terminal at LGA without any planes parked at the gates.

Without going into too much detail, getting to the airport was very very hard. Many of the roads around the airport had zero plowing when we got there - as did the road in front of my relative's house where I planned to park for free. All of the long term parking options were full, so I was forced to park in the short-term lot in front of the terminal for $33 per day (And we were to be out of town 12 days.) Fortunately, they ended up giving us long-term parking rates because all the lots were full - something for which I was grateful.

Inside the airport itself, the line for security was about an hour long. Our flight itself was a half-hour late. But through all the parking/security struggles, I knew I was much better off than I could have been. I thought about you often during the race, and was sorry you couldn't be there.

I look forward to hanging with you at 3days.

I was shocked that Tuesday flights would be canceled after a Sunday storm. But back to you: you did a great job at ATY, especially considering the hassle of the travel and the lousy weather in Arizona. I'll see you at Three Days at the Fair. I'm thinking I have to do the 72 hour because of the missed opportunity at ATY.

Be good.
