=========

............20min Track Infield Run......with additional 10min CaneJogging on outside lanes.

I moved

out into the grass at the end,

and my hip IMMEDIATELY popped me,

it can't handle UNEVEN surfaces right now.

GO, Soundie!!

I set out to run/jog 8/2 to equal 9:55 pace +/-

But a hill at 8 took it's toll and by 9, I was mentally toast.

So I over reached I guess.

Happy 10/10/10.

Good luck to all the racers. .

MrC and I ran a point-to-point course with a friend this morning. All 3 of us forgot our Garmins but we're guessing we ran 6 miles or so based on the time it took. We couldn't drive it off either as part of it was on trails. I must say it was really nice to not worry about pace or mileage -- just get from Point A to Point B. Followed with coffee and scones to cap off a lovely morning.

That's quite a bruise, TripJay. It looks about like the one I had on my @ss when I fell out of the raft and hit a rock on a whitewater trip. Mine hurt for a while whenever I ran.

Did my first ever 100mile bike ride with MrsG and 5 guys from my tri club. Funny how people dont work together until they are tired. Lots of off the front out the back and hill blasting for about 60 miles. After that everyone wanted to be in a train. I had a good work out though.

tomwhite, so glad for your a-ha moment! It's it funny how we already know the answers to so many things, and what trips us up the most is forgetting that we knew them?? Honestly, I think it's just human nature to get bored with doing the same thing all the time, even when we know it works, so we look for something different to shake things up. Either that, or it's just karma messing with us.

Catching up a bit from yesterday....

Ribs, a belated congrats to The Saint on her AG award, as well as running doubles!

Heme, belated congrats to you too, wow what a race! Nice picture too, that smile says it all.

Tamster, a nice new PR for you, and Garmin-free to boot!

And PR on a trail marathon for Plugging Along, nice! Also great races for CNY, Pink and Gin! As Opie said yesterday, a great day to be a runner, and a Masters runner to boot...

mc, sounds like you're on your way back from being nemesized... sheesh, 15 miles for a recovery run? I need a nap just reading about your workouts....

gobi, wowza! A century ride and then some... yes I saw you posted 102 miles on VRAA... glad to see you living up to your plutonium potential....

JJJ, that's quite a colorful boo-boo you've got there. Heal up well!

Paul, nice sticking with the 10-10-10 theme. I was still in my PJs at the time. But I did look at the clock then and say "cool!"

choovie, it's so nice that you run with your husband like that, I keep meaning to mention it. Mine would prefer I learn to play golf so we could spend more time together. Though now that he's dropped quite a bit of weight, he's thinking of trying C25K once more. Once golf season is over, he says. We'll see.

As for me, I'm learning to say no. My running partner emailed this morning asking if I would run with her, but my left hamstring has been a bit cranky lately, and I really thought it would be best not to run today. She pleaded and whined seemed a little disappointed... but I stayed my ground, and stuck to my plan of taking my bike out instead for some well-needed cross-training. 20.84 miles on the bike, not my favorite activity, but like oatmeal, it was the right thing to do.

So I'm supposing that Chicago and Victoria are both finished by now? Results??

Have a great day, all!

Spareribs, glad to see you still have a crush on Soundie. Good to hear how she's doing. I'm concerned because a couple I know from church were running Chicago and I can't find either of them in the results.

The Portland Marathon was also today. First time ever sell-out for the race, as well as the heaviest rainfall. My plan was to run my sister in to the finish from Mile 19 and help celebrate her first ever marathon. I did a "warm up" run to our predetermined meet up point on the course. 7 miles at 7:54/mi. Then after waiting in a downpour for about 20 minutes, joined up with her for our trek to the finish line. She bonked hard at around Mile 20, and needed to start walking. Since I've never ran a marathon before, and had no idea what to say to her to help her out, I wasn't sure what to do. So I faked it. Relying on some of the things I've read here on KR, I told her with as much confidence as I could muster: "Here's what we're going to do. We're going run for 3 minutes, then walk for 1 minute. And then finish with dignity." She just nodded and said she thought she could do that.

The first several 3 minute runs were tough, but then she started feeling better. We started to make each other laugh during the walk breaks! She even hit the beer aid station at Mile 24 (I went back for seconds...) After we hit Mile 25, I asked her if she could run all the way in, and she said yes. So that's what we did, and she finished in 4:14. Not the 4 hour mark she was hoping to break, but she did finish with dignity. I am so freakin' proud of her! So another 7.25 miles more for me at 10:20/mi.

14.25 miles total in the rain, plus some sibling bonding. A pretty great day in my book!

Outstanding performance yesterday CNY! You have had a greta year. Congrats!

And Tamster! Stoopid running seems to work for you and mc. Congrats on the PR!

Lab, you wish I had a big brother like you. Seriously, that was very cool. Congratulations to your sister and you.

Erika, you don't know how excited I am to hear you'll be in Boston first week of Nov. WE WILL have a run together. I'll re-arrange anything I have to to make that happen. Let's PM as the time approaches.

That reminds me. Pro, you made an offer to run sometime in Concord. At the time of your proposal I was on the Cape and only had a BB with me, which I hate for texting. Yeah, mornings are a must for me. If it suits your schedule, we should try to hook up in the Center sometime around 7ish for a run. Name your distance. I have a route for anything (but go easy on me, eh?)

nice to see you Winejunky! Sorry about your injury though - now why'd you go and run the final leg of a relay so fast like that??

gobi - you are awesome. 102 miles. dang!

10 mile run for me today. And once again, I was garminless. I let it charge for a couple hrs last night, but either that wasn't long enough or something wasn't right with the charging, because when I went to turn it on it said "Low battery" . . . so I wore my timex again. I ran an out and back. Our for 50 minutes and figured that at the pace I was keeping, it felt like a comfortable 10 min/mile pace. and then back for 10 miles.

WTG on helping your sister, Lab! You are one fantastic, supportive brother. Congrats to your sister.

Hi WJ!

^5 for the century, Gobi!!!

Congrats on the 10K PR, Tamster! Nice strong finish there!

Excellent trail marathon yesterday, PluggingAlong.

Holy crow, CNY, you just keep getting faster and faster!. Well deserved PR and hardware for yesterday's half!!!!

Thanks all for the congrats on the series win yesterday! I kind of backed into it, but hey, hardware is hardware... or in this case, lumber!! I took the day to get a bit of sleeping in and gardening done. Most of the plants I want to bring indoors are all potted up and ready to head to the basement, and my coleus and geranium cuttings are in water and ready to plant up tomorrow to go under the lights. Fed the birds and the chickadees, woodpeckers, nuthatches and bluejays kept me company! We now have a couple of resident wild turkeys out back... the first time I've seen them on the property.... very cool!

Guess I did some additional damage to the knee yesterday as it's been hurting wandering around the garden all day. Good thing I already planned to take a couple of weeks off running after this last race to let this heal up a bit more.

Am looking forward to hearing about RVM!!

Now I know how everyone feels when I'm at one of our marathons or relay, and you guys are sitting by your computer wanting the story! Just learned something very interesting about Joan Benoit Samuelson-she became the first woman to run a sub-three-hour marathon in five decades (hard to believe but that's what the NYT said) & just missed the Olympic trials.

Wow!! Tons of fantastic races this weekend. Great Job.

I drove to the northern part of Ohio to run a 5k today. I have been fighting off a cold all week but have been doing shortened workouts on the eliptical and decided a short run couldn't hurt much.

After I registered for the race, I did a warmup run a few blocks to the center of the town to see if they had a Subway. I wanted to buy my brother a gift certificate for his birthday after the race. I found it but with a festival going on the traffic was heavy so I decided to run back to the car, get money, and run back to get the gift. After I did that, I had a little over 2 miles warmup in so I changed into my racing flats and did another 1.2 miles over the first part of the course. The more I ran, the better I felt but I was still worried about bonking if the cold zapped my energy.

The race started and during the initial sprint, I counted about a dozen people ahead of me. Once we got going I moved into 4th after a half mile. By the mile I was in 3rd place. There weren't any mile markers this year so I have no idea what my splits were but I was around 6 minutes. Right when we got done with the first 1.2 mile loop (of a figure 8 course), I passed another runner to move into second place. I was debating whether to cruise the last half or go after the leader. I kept a steady pace for a long stretch against the wind and saw that I was gaining on the leader so now the race was on. Just before the 2 mile mark, he was 7 seconds ahead of me so I knew I had a good chance to run him down. I pulled even and ran with him until we made a turn with about 3/4 mile to go and had the wind at our back. I put in a surge to pull away and ended up beating him by 11 seconds. My time was 18:54. I didn't cough as much after the race as I had been after my eliptical workouts this week so that is a good sign. The bad sign is that the cold seems to have leeped into my head so I have been sneezing all afternoon. Hopefully this is a sign it will soon go away as it has been more annoying than anything,

After going 8 days between runs, I would like to do a couple races next week if I am feeling better.
