We have a work van that is parked out back. It had its catalytic converter stolen this weekend.

The business next door to us had 4 catalytic converters stolen from cars they had parked in front of their business a couple of weekends ago.

Wow, betsmoe. That's kinda weird since it would take a little time to do that!!

Also odd about catalytic converters. My sister had her car window broken and a tire slashed (parked in front of her house). Nothing was stolen. She had satellite radio and some other work stuff in there. Of course it was pouring rain so it flooded the inside of her car. Her NEW car. That she had just bought because her old one was totaled by someone a month earlier!!

A used catalytic converter will bring anywhere between $40.00 and $120.00 from a recycler. As long as there is clearance under the vehicle, you can cut one off in about 60-120 seconds with a battery powered saw.

Meth heads have been hitting our area really hard lately.

ya, lots of platinum, and other rare earth metals. Those thieves are certainly getting creative. The cops here caught a guy a few weeks ago stripping copper out a just wired office building. He had like 40lbs in the back seat of his car when the caught him.

I had the cat converter stolen out of my 98 Dakota two years ago. It was sitting outside a garage waiting for a brake job. They said it would be done on Friday but it wasn't, then as it sat there over the weekend some tweaker cut it off. The shop's insurance company paid for it and I got a whole new exhaust free of charge.

Catalytic Coverter thefts are right up there with copper tubing and construction site thefts in my part of the world

fvckers

At one point last year, my mother and I shared a car. She was at my house, picking me up when a police officer pulls up to her and asks her if she lives in the neighborhood. She says no, she's just picking me up. He then goes on to point out that the car's emblem was missing, and that most of the cars in my neighborhood had had them stolen the night before.

As it turns out, my brother had been over (in our shared car) for about 2 hours the night before. In that small stretch of time, three kids had come through and stolen the emblems off of the Hondas, Toyotas, and Bimmers.

They were caught, we got the emblem back (once their trials were wrapped up), the kids had to send us a check and an apology, and BMW charged about $50 to reattach them.

I wonder how long it would take me to figure out that the reason my car wasn't starting was because someone stole and integral part?

Last year during a large phase of an underground utility upgrade, the cops caught a couple guys stealing copper wire out of the ground. They had a van, reflective vests, yellow flasher lights, the whole set up. The tip off was that the guys were "working" at 3:30 in the AM.
