Good Morning, Good People!

A truly majestic day in the southern Appalachians it is. The snow I saw today could be measure in tablespoons, yet a good hard freeze overnight had firmed up the trail quite well. A brilliant sun was back at work after a long December holiday. It sparkled a heavy frost into a pavement of diamonds on the wooden trestles I crossed and turned the river along side me into of torrent of seraphic fire.

I heard and saw our local raven pair as they loped over the frozen bronzed pasture.

This week marks my 5th year of becoming a serious runner. It as been a blast to say the least.

I feel 10 times better and 30 years younger and I'm 30 lbs lighter. The new friends and adventures from close by and far afield have made it some the best days of my life.

Today on the trail I did 7.4 miles. At my 2 mile stretch break I noticed I was smokin' as the steam was coming off me as a fog in the 20° temps.

By the time I got home my breath had formed a good chunk of ice in my hair and despite the toughness of running and the exhaustion,

I knew all was right with the world.

Enjoy the day,

I'm starting my 5th year of being a runner also, JJ. Sounds like you had an enjoyable run this morning!

I think our weather should cooperate for a RAL today. My quads were so incredibly sore yesterday - as if I had done way too much weight lifting or something, which I didn't. I don't really know why they were sore either. I ran 12 on Friday, then just 3 ez miles on Saturday. That should not have created any DOMS. But I slacked off yesterday and today my legs feel better. Hopefully a nice and chilly 5 miles will feel good and make all right in my world also.

Well I'm in the right place at the right time. This week marks my 10th year of running. :) Like jjj said so majestically, I, to, am a different person than I was 9 years and 2 days ago. There are a lot more cans in my life than there used to be (and a whole lot fewer can'ts).

^5 j3

^5 Tamster

I ran today with two other people who also love to run - my former co-worker Mary, who "came into the office" just to join us for a run, and my current co-worker, Tammy, who has been running with me for about 4 years now. It was just a little bit too windy to be IRC for a winter day, but it was sunny, and almost 30, and it was great to be out there. It always is, though, right?

JJJ, that's a great way to start the daily. Thanks. Was that the endorphins talking, or are you just glad to be here?

I started running approx. 12 years and 35 lbs ago. Yeah, I'm aging better now than I was then.

I'm starting a cut-back week, so I ran 6 miles this morning with 6 x 0.25 mile intervals + 90 sec rests. 'Twas a little windy, but temps are still mild at 30F. Fast parts were in the 7:30 - 7:20 pace range. A nice start to the day.

Good morning gang!

A magnificent three marathon in three days for our queen Dove. I bow to you sister.

Butterfly hugs to Ben, and the whole Econo family.

5 miles in 6F this morning. This was a hard w/o since I went downhill skiing yesterday and the mooggles I decided to tackled took all the glycogen from my legs.

Gym date night tonight with Mr. Posie.

I think we all need a butterfly hug today! So, close your eyes and line up to get your hugs.

Yoga for lunch was majestic! During savasana, when my arms were stretched out like wings, I felt like I was flying. That's even better than Miley Cyrus felt when she pulled on that bong for her 18th birthday.

I've been logging my miles for 3 years now, as of November, though I dabbled in running for close to 20 years now. Three years ago I decided I wouldn't give up going outside when the weather got cold or difficult. That, for me, made me a real runner.

3.1 speedy miles for me this morning, before the workmen got here to work on the basement playroom floor. And since I'm relegated to being home, I'm finally tackling laundry mountain -- last year's laundry, can you believe it?!

Beautiful post JJJ. Nice way to start out the first Monday of the year.

I'm glad mc is all systems go.

Wow, technically I've been running even longer than tom. I ran in my first track meet when I was 7 years old, and I'm turning 50 this year, so I guess that's 43 years for me. No wonder my knee doesn't work any longer!

Yay! Let's celebrate our running selves today! We are such a fortunate group, 6 years of running for me and (and 20 pounds lighter)

I'm already breaking my resolution/goal for the year of running 100 consecutive days from Jan 1st. I need to rest today instead of run and think I'll gain more from the rest. I think my new resolution is to be flexible with my goals.

JJJ, you paint beautiful pictures with your words. Lovely.

Dove, you're amazing! Congratulations on the marathons. I think you're smart to rest, too.

I've been running since I could walk but racing about 6 years. It's part of my identity now. I call myself and others call me a Runner!

Today after work I went to the track and went round and round steadily for 6 miles, 10s faster than goal MP. A torrent of seraphic fire would have been lovely but I just had little white lines to follow.

I smiled when I read your opening post, JJJ! Like Lab said, it made a greta start for the day.

Dove, I am forever humbled by your running accomplishments.

I started running in HS, but for a few years of fits and starts thru my 20's to 40's, I only really got back into it in 2005, with my first race in 25 years being in 2006.

After 4 trail runs in the last 7 days, and working out the kinks of new shoes, my legs are feeling a bit beaten up, so I thought I'd take a rest day.

Having to go to the dentist this aft for the annual clean and jerk sealed the deal.

I will take a half day tomorrow to get DH to his GP appointment, as he's still not vertical for any appreciable length of time.

Will find time to run somehow.

What a wonderful opening post JJJ! Flying Finn is so right, your command of language sets the day just right.

This is my 35th year of running (not counting my father challenging me to sprints down the driveway when I was 6---he always pulled up short clutching his hamstring too---I get it now!). I started running and racing in earnest in 7th grade and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

5 easy miles this morning after a 15 mile progressive run on Sunday. Legs felt pretty good.

"annual clean and jerk " lol! Good one Heme.

3 easy miles on the indoor track dodging all sorts of New Year's resolutionists. Since I don't care about my time, it actually makes the laps seem much less tedious. Took about 23 minutes. And I broke in my new Mizuno Wave Rider 14's. They so rock!. Then a bunch of PT exercises.

Tammy, good one. Labduck, it's gonna be a long month with the New Year's resolutionists at the gym, huh? When I was doing my lifting after work, I actually had to ask a woman to get up off the bench. She was just sitting there fiddling with her phone and no weights anywhere near her. Dove, glad to hear you're resting. You had a phenomenal 2010 only to outdo yourself again.

Very nice JJJ.

I ran the 880 in junior high but consider the 10k I ran right after 8th grade as the beginning of my running. I was a running boom baby doing that race in 1979. Out of the 31 years since, I have had about 9 years of running. I am running some races now that I ran in 30 years ago.

Today was an easier effort going 6 miles in 71:30. Elevation gain of 3,800+ ft was the highlight.
