The dual posters will know what I am referring to . . . over at RA, they have a thread called 2008 Best Race Times or something like that, where they have each of the common race distances (5K, 5 miles, 10K, 10 miles, HM, M, etc.) and then each age division for men and women listened under the respective race distance and when you've done one of those race distances you can put your time in your age group division. When someone else in your same AG has a better time then you, then their name gets listed and you go buh-bye. So sort of like our own virtual race competition taking place over the course of a year and then by the end of the year, we'll have the fastest person listed in each AG for each distance of racing.

Is there interest in doing something like that here? I'll head it up and be the keeper of the thread if there is.

ooooo! I know . . . . .I'll make this a poll! We haven't had a poll in a long time. Wait for the poll ..........

Tammy, I think that as each forum diverges into its own specialties and communities, it's a good thing to let one group do some things that make it unique to the others. Let RA have this as one of their special things.

ETA I wish the poll weren't worded quite as it is: This isn't a silly idea in the least. In fact, it's attractive because it's a cool idea! But I think we should let them what thunk it up enjoy it.

I'm one of those dual posters and I think it's a fun idea.... even though I'm slow, I posted a very slow HM time.... it's up and but I think it's coming down this weekend by Berger1

I wouldn't mind seeing it here too..... if you wanted to add a little different twist to it, you could run a monthly best time, that way us slower runners may get to post a little more glory from time to time .

Nah, not for me. For one thing, I don't race. And anyway, I'm really slow. Plus, I'm really not into the competition thing, it kinda cuts out the fun aspect of things for me, the enjoyment I get from running.

Oh, and did I mention I'm also really slow?

Nope, sorry!

We need to talk about proper survey methodology, Tamsterina.

First, you're not supposed to signal what you hope to hear..."a fun idea I saw" suggests a bias toward the response at the top of the list.

Second, you're not supposed to make any one response stand out from the crowd. Using italics to highlight the response at the top of the list is definitely disallowed.

Third, one respondent has a suggestion for a wording change....but this is typical of respondents when faced with finite choices. Your selection of responses was symmetrical, at least. For really dreadful survey question collections, see Multi-Sport. I can't read theirs without crying frustration-tears.

Confer with me for your next qualitative research project and we'll get you set up with some dependable responses that may yield statistically significant results!!!

I voted no.

I think anyone who races much has a good idea of how they compare to other runners. People's natural abilities and training vary widely (as do their goals for that matter), which is one reason that most of us aim for PRs instead of the official record books.

Psst -- Econo -- the option in italics is the one you voted for!

Econo, I am laughing my ass off right now. I saw that right off and I was really curious how it would go, but I certainly didn't expect anyone to point it out. Larry
