G'morning all.

Not fun: waking up at 4 AM to catch a flight

Not fun pt. 2: flying away from Columbus :(

Anyway, headed out real soon to head back to SF. Family gathering went well, but now I have to head away for a few weeks.

Won't be too much long before the next visit tho' so that'll help

Good days to everyone (as good as a Monday can be anyway)

Wow, Mr. Handy-Duck... I wouldn't imagine installing a solar light tubey thingy would be a weekend project!!

The cats are a little weird this morning. Usually they are quite vocal in the morning when someone comes in to feed them but this morning it's all quiet! Must be the storms.

Whomever invented the 4am hour is a sadistic bastard. The hour of 4 should strike only once per day. In daylight. Ah well, I saw Joe off at the airport, then went back home and napped before driving to work. I now am sipping a skinny latte with an extra espresso shot in hopes of being semi productive today.

We had a good weekend, and he was properly received into my family by being indoctrinated into the family card game. Other fun this weekend in addition to the stuff Joe posted about over the weekend included dinner with Mandaroo and her partner on Saturday night. He got to meet Hank and Walter. They now love him too. I should have thought to get a photo of him with the boys, they figured out quickly that Joe would scratch their ears and back.

KP- I had to laugh at your list of things that he needs to know before becoming an Ohioan. As we were driving north from Columbus to my hometown, I was giving random facts about the towns we passed as a way to pass the time. The 1st 2 towns were Delaware and Marion, which have a presidential connection, so we started trying to name all 8 Ohio presidents. We got 7 of them but neither of us remembered Taft.

morning peeps.

super busy weekend for me. Funny story:

I had 3 things to do on Fri night: dinner with my friend Kristin at 7, then met up with my friend Nicole for a drink (with a couple of her friends) at 9, then onto karaoke for my friend Liz's birthday (which started at 10.) I drove down to karaoke, in the theatre district, because I wanted to be able to stay longer than the T would run. But it was getting late and I was rushing, since it was already after 11. Anyway, en route, right near BPD HQ, I blew a red light. Totally knew I did it. Saw the flashers behind me and pulled over (initially thinking, cuz I'm so law abiding, I was just moving out of the way for an emergency...heh). Cute young motorcycle cop steps over and says, "Can I see your license and registration?" which I was already pulling out. He took them, looked at them, then said,

"Do you know why I pulled you over, Maureen?"

me: "Because I ran that red light."

CYMC: "you didn't just run that light...it was red, 1, 2, 3...Maureen!"

me: "I know, I'm sorry. This isn't an excuse but I'm running late to a birthday party."

CYMC: "it's 11:30?!?"

me: "It's karaoke at the Charles Playhouse, it doesn't start til 10."

CYMC: "whose birthday?" (looking at my license)

me: "oh, no, not me, my friend Liz's."

CYMC: "ok, Maureen, well, as a birthday gift to you, I'm not going to give you a ticket. As a gift to your friend, you're $150 richer, so buy her a drink. Be more careful."

Heh.

Morning all!!!

Super duper busy yet fantastic weekend!!! Had some friends from HS over on Fri and we had a blast!!!!! I haven't laughed that hard in so long. Then Sat was DH's HS reunion. Neither of us expected much and already had an escape plan with his friend and his wife. But we both ended up having a great time and stayed till we all got kicked out. yesterday was a nothing day cause 2 nights in a row of being up past 1am took its toll on me.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend and a super happy birthday to Becca and Cindi!

Not fun: DD has gone from "she's a big girl, but in proportion" to "high BMI, recommend exercise and moderate diet changes" I feel like an ass for not preventing this.

Okay, so as you guys know, we need to buy a new car. It's been a while since I've bought one (more than 7 years), so maybe I forgot how the game works. I was doing a little research online on some of the various Honda dealers in the area. Silly me; here I am thinking that it's now 2010 and buying a car must be so much easier than it was in the past. Everything is available online now, so it's easy to walk into the dealer armed with all the facts and figures you can think of about every possible car. Sure, they'd still try to milk you for whatever they can, but their power is limited now in that regard.

Well, I checked the Edmunds reviews of these dealers, written by people who have recently shopped there. And every set of reviews includes horror stories of people who were given the ol' Bait and Switch, or talked into useless add-ons, or even given a car that was a lesser quality than what they thought they were getting. Jeebus, car dealers are as shady as ever! And now I'm less confident that I'm actually going to be able to make a good deal... Well, at least we're not in any super hurry, so I can feel okay about walking out of the dealership as soon as I feel they're starting to play the games...

Any of you guys have any car dealership horror stories? I don't mean to make this a QOD, per se. But I'm wondering if you guys have any pearls of widsom for me in dealing with this now...

boB, check out this article:

Confessions of a Car Salesman

fwiw, I found the car I wanted online and went in with the attitude that I would walk out if I didn't get what I wanted. They sent over 3 separate salesman, each more senior to the last, and I wasn't budging. The car I wanted was $8100 and I wanted to pay $7000 for it.

In the end, they gave me the car for the asking price, but with all the taxes and fees included in that price (which were about $1000).

Bob my only dvice is do all the homework you can first. One thing I did last time that ended up helping me out, I ran my own credit report and had my scores from the 3 agencies. So when I went to finance the car and they gave me an insanely high rate and claimed my credit was poor, I just pulled out my report and the numbers and they adjusted the financing terms. I did have one report that had my rating listed fairly low but it was due to a mistake that I caught sinc ei looked it over and they were correcting it. I guess when considering you for financing, they base things on the lowest score reported but since I was able to explain everything and had the other scores as backup, it was all good!

Also, be prepared to say no a gazillion times and don't get frustrated like I did! After many hours just trying to finish paperwork, I just about flipped out (I was also 7 months pregnant at the time). When they asked me if I wanted the extended warranty and I said no and she said to me "Do you understand what that is?" I just about flipped the desk over on her!!! What can I say, I was hungry and she was preventing me from getting to dinner! :)

Amy we all know BMIs are deceptive. But you also know how to turn things aorund, ensure she is active and eats healthy. She is young, you have plenty of time to get her into those good habits!
