Had a small earthquake in Colorado yesterday as well.

ran 8 sloggy miles this morning. Have decided to find a respiratory dr to get his opinion on my breathing issue. The lovely and gracious bride of mine is scouting around for one. I'm taking my inhaler back to the pharmacy this morning to make sure it is working. I've never used one before and it seems to me that nothing is coming out of it and I'm sure not getting any (expected) relief or results. It may be just fine but I have no experience to fall back on.

RIP - probably did yourself some good taking a day off.

The rest of you seem to be running well. Keep going; I'll be along shortly.

That day off did feel good. I think my program of sparse running and hard eliptical workouts is really paying off as I had one of those fantastic workouts you wish you could have everyday. Felt great right from the start as I planned to go 12 miles. Wanted to keep the pace steady and my first mile was 7:52. I was soon running faster without any extra effort and ran the next mile in 7:20. I turned into a headwind and kept a strong pace with 7:16, 7:09, and 7:12. I made a left turn and started running sub 7's with 6:59, 6:53, and 6:52. Another left turn heading back into town and I was running downhill with the wind at my back. The last 3 miles were 6:39,6:31, and 6:23. I stopped the garmin at 11 miles and jogged about a half mile home. Average was a shade over 7 minute pace.

Overcast and low 60s when I started my run. By the time I finished, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was 75°

Next run will be a 15k trail race in Indianapolis.

KS, I have heard of runners getting heat induced or workout induced asthma. It may be one of those things caused by the extemely hot weather you have been having. Hope you find out what is is.

Awesome run, rip!

ks, you're scaring me... I hope all's well. You know you have to take the cap off the inhaler to get the meds, right?

10 miles today, 8 at tempo (7:47 avg). Felt great, just ran comfortably fast and didn't feel particularly fatigue at the end. I'm enjoying this trainging cycle.

SNORK!!! That's a quip I would have expected from TW or myself, as we're in the industry. Just glad I didn't have a mouthful of tea!!

Super run, Rip! Sounds like you've really found the sweet spot.

Hi KS! Hope they don't find anything with that Xray.

Hi TW!! Thought of you when I passed a lone goose in the parking lot this morning.

Had one of those runs that makes you question why the hell you're even trying this morning. Started out sluggish for an early morning 3 mile slow recovery-pace run, expecting things to pick up at the 1 mile point or so, like they usually do, but noooooooo. At around 2 miles, on my favourite long easy downhill thru the park, I just felt totally fatigued, demoralized and in a cold sweat. Nothing hurt. Walked a bit and even stopped on a bridge for a short while to watch the fish in the stream, almost feeling like I wanted to cry.... and not being sure why. Hiked it up out of the park and back to the main road, where I was able to shake off the feeling and manage a reasonable pace for the last mile and a bit back to the office. I'd had an apple and granola bar on my way to the gym, my usual pre-early morning run fare, so I didn't think it was food-related. Talked it over with a couple of work friends that are better athletes than me, and they thought maybe overtraining, but my volume is quite low right now and I haven't done a +10mile LR in almost a month. Just hope I'm not starting to lose the fire for this....my interests seem to go in ~10 year cycles and I'm worried I'm about 7 years into this one.

(((Heme))) I know what you're feeling. I have felt it many times this summer. I've always heard 7 yr cycles and I'm past that. Tom may be on to something as he usually is. A change of running scenery. Or perhaps running with someone more regularly to change your thinking patterns.

Hang in there, ks and Heme. Nice running, rip and mike. Hi TW. Where are Johnny and HappyFeat (I know.. who am I to be asking?)?

I ran the usual 3.5 M route to the corner and back, averaging about 9 m/M. I put on my HR strap just to see where my conditioning is. At about a mile my HR was 120 bpm so I thought, great, that's just at the top of the fat-burning zone. Next mile averaged 130,and then there were a couple of 140 bpm miles. I blame it on the 73 F temp (dew point 70). Oh, and the fact that I haven't done anything long in months and months. My knee hardly made a peep, so that's good.

Take care, all.

(((Heme)))....probably just a crummy run....or maybe a crummy week....things don't go downhill in a day or two.....But I'm with ya, same thing happened to me today as well.

Had to go to the dentist in the big town 40 miles away. After the dentist, I always like to run on the bike trail nearby. Planned on doing a 2 mile WU and then 6 @ tempo. By this time it was 11:30 AM local time, close to 90°, and wicked humid (for here). Started off OK, but when it came time to put the "hammer" (mini ballpeen hammer, that is) down, nothing was there. I couldn't even run under 9mm pace. OK, I'll just try to run a little faster than normal for a few miles, see what happens. I ended up throwing in the towel at 4 miles and started walking. OK smart guy, now you're 4 miles from your truck. What are you going to do??...walk all the way back??. So after 5 minutes of saying bad words & generally feeling sorry for myself, I "jogged" back to the truck. 7.5 miles...and a bloody nipple to boot. No wonder people were looking at me funny, well funnier than usual, I mean.

On a more shaky note, I spent the first 40 years of my life in southern california. If it's not over 6.0, we just roll over and go back to sleep.

Hi FO, I'm here. I haven't runnoft with HappyFeat.........yet

I tried lacing the shoes differently today...didn't make any difference. So I guess the next step is the metatarsal pad. So, Heme or Mike, do I get these at the running store or the podiatry aisle of the drug store??

Nice run today Mike

Johnny - tuff day for you....character building.

I got my gel pads at the running store (Marathon Sports). They have a few locations in the Boston area. I place them under the insoles of the shoes. Sometimes it takes a few adjustments to get them in the right place - so that the forefoot is elevated relative to the toes. They really make a difference. Good luck.

I wear a metatarsal pad for my right foot - got it at the drugstore - won't run without it in my shoe.

I'm thrilled to hear your knee was quiet today, FO. Taking is slow and easy is paying off for you.

(((Heme))) you just had a bad day. Honestly I've had some runs like that and for me they had nothing to do with running - the rest of life can take you down without you realizing you are even bothered. I say don't overthink it. Try to relax your mind about it. Find somewhere novel and easy to run to reconnect with why you enjoy running. Call up that new running buddy to join you.

Super runs today for Rip and Mike. I'm off to do 8 miles - tempo if I'm up to it.

Got a new running tank top to try - can't figure out why they made it so long - hits me mid thigh if I pull it down. The fabric is stretchy like a rubber band though, so I've got it snapped up!

completed planned tempo run: after 2 mile warmup, ran 3 at 9:50, 1 at 9:40, and another at 9:50, then 1 mile cooldown and a 5 minute walk after that.

I entertained myself during the run by pulling the shirt down and timing how fast it took to work its way up to my waist - about 90 seconds!

I think all the fabric folds might actually be a good feature since they hide the "real folds."
