Morning gang.

Shout out to Heme and HappyFeat.

Have fun golfing Mike

11.5 miles this morning. Funny; Thurs and Fri runs felt pretty good. This one a bit more labored. Weed eated at the church for about 1/2 hour and mowed what yard I have left at home for 1/2. Will run another 5.5 miles tonight.

DW texted. She has docked this morning and boards a plane around 2 this afternoon. Wohooo!!! She won't be home till tomorrow but only one more night with my girl dogs with her.

What are you the star of today?

Hi gang!

Just in from my Saturday LR. Reduced my planned 16 to 14 because I knew I wasn't up to it. I was pretty much done at the end of 10 miles, but kept going for the rest. I stopped my watch for some walking in the last few, especially the 14th when my right calf up near the back of the knee cramped pretty badly. The cramp eased and I eeked out the last mile. It's in the mid-70's this morning, which is unusual for here and I got slightly overheated. I stopped three times to let irrigation sprinklers wet me down. Avg pace was 10:34, but in reality, it was all over the place with the slowest two about 11:08 and the fastest one at 10 (when a biker rode along and chatted me up for a mile).

Sorry to hear you're having another flare-up, TW. Do you know what brings them on?

Yay for the safe return of KS DW tomorrow! Hope she had a great time!

I wonder what's on Rip's menu today?

and how he did in the trail race - RUN FAST, RIP!

KS...if you're going to eat weed, don't run afterwards.....might forget where you're going (amongst other things)

Have a nice lunch TW....hoping your flare up has flared down by now.

Nice abbreviated run HappyFeat.

Haven't posted in a few days, 4 miles on Thursday before work, then took yesterday off and hiked to the top of Grayback Mtn. (highest point in our county @ 7055 ft), only 3.5 miles each way, but almost 3000 ft. of vertical gain. 6 easy miles this morning on trashed legs. Anyone know anything about this?? The last few times I've run the toes on my left foot have gone numb after about 5 miles or so. I had a vaguely similiar problem a few years ago with my right foot (diagnosed as comparmental syndrome) only the whole foot went numb that time. I do exercises to keep the compartmental syndrome thing at bay, but this feels different.

Hope the race went well rip...

Happy last day of vacation Heme (you should of went camping. I've had some great experiences while tent bound, camping in the rain......er, come to think of it, that was a good idea when 25, maybe not so much so now.)

Nice long run, HF (any one you finish is nice!). Hi ksrunr, TW, Johnny, Heme. I haven't posted in a few (okay, more than a few) days but I haven't forgotten you all. I'm looking forward to Rip's trail report--I'm signed up for a trail Half in mid-September.

5.25 M for me today, still keeping the mileage down to baby my knee. It's barely a niggle now but that niggle just won't go away. Might be time to see an Ortho.

I've been travelling a lot the last few weeks. I even sampled ksrunr's heat, spending a week in Austin (mostly in the cool Convention Center). While there I participated in a fun run 5K (3.2 miles--no charge for the extra tenth) that went off in two waves, I finished at the front of the second wave, which felt good. My time was 26:49, which was good considering the heat and the fact that I didn't want to stress my knee too much.

Hi FO - good job on the 5K and continuing to run while your knee heals.

Johnny - I know nothing about compartment syndrome, but Google says it can cause toes to go numb. So maybe it's that, but presenting differently than your other foot did in the past. I'm impressed by your running 6 miles today after yesterday's hike. It'll probably help you recover though, right? What could you see from the top of the mountain?

Johnny - very funny - it struck me much the same way - glad you said something about it ("banter" as Heme calls it, not being my strong suit).

Smokin' 5K for being part of an MLR, Gobi!

Man, I go a way for a day or two and find out that KS is eating weed. What's this place coming to?

Johnny, I was getting numb toes after an ankle sprain did some neurological damage a couple of years back, and again earlier this year with the Morton's neuroma..... but the metatarsals were pretty sore on the LRs at the same time. Anything unusual hurting?

Nice LR, HF!

Hi FO! Good 5K, considering the knee.

TW, you're a peach!

Ran the final race of the new Chico Racing series...11K of wind-y single and double track trails that were designed for mountainbike racing. 1:09 for 3rd (of 3) in the over 40 women's division... at least not quite DFL, and I gained a bit on the woman I finished 3rd to at the last race...chased her for the last 5K, but couldn't quite catch her. We gabbed for a bit after, found that we live fairly close, and exchanged email addresses to get together to run another time.

Rest day today....... last day off before getting back into the routine tomorrow.

Hi all....FO,.... was wondering where you were. Nice 5K race, they say Austin is quite runner friendly. Don't be a stranger. Take care of that knee.

Unlimited visibility HF (except to the north, where a false summit 75' lower about 1/4 mile away blocked the view. The Crater Lake mtns to the NE, other Siskiyou mtns like Mt. Ashland, Red Buttes, Wagner Butte to the SE, south & SW, coast range to the west & NW, and in the distance Mt. Shasta to the south). I didn't bring my camera or I'd post a pic. I don't usually repeat hikes, but this one was so nice I'm thinking about going back there soon.

13.6 miles in town (again, not wanting to pass HappyFeat's LR from yesterday). 87°F when I finished around 11:30 AM. Funny, only minor numbing of the toes today, and that was after 11-12 miles. So, it seems, my choices are trail running and getting numb toes left foot, or road running and getting shin splints right foot. I'm wondering if this toe thing is from my trail shoes. I've been running in Trabucos almost exclusively, maybe I got a bad pair. When I had the compartment syndrome a few years back, the dr. had me start back running on pavement, which I thought was kind of funny. I guess it's true, who knew a podiatrist (with several BQ's on his resume) would know more about running mechanics than a community college drop out?? (rhetorical question, the answer is everyone except Johnny). Heme, you asked if I had any unusual hurts, I still have the usual half dozen age related aches & pains I always seem to have, but the numb toes is the only unusual one. Think I'll try a trail run in the road shoes and see what happens.

T (Orville) W- Most great prophets aren't appreciated in their lifetimes. GL with the racing crutches. BTW, it might be time for you to post your youtube link again. (with english translation for us northerners )

Johnny, have you tried different lacing of the shoes? I've been leaving the lowest laces loose, and putting a knot in part way up so that I can cinch in the middle and upper laces without squishing my forefoot.

Had on a red tank and red calf sleeves at the race, paired with neon animal print gaiters.... they told me I took the fashion award for the day!
