20 miler today. And I woke up with my period and bad cramps. It's 70 and 100% humidity right now. I'm not having high hopes for this run and I'm so so sooo tempted to put it off until tomorrow when it's supposed to be cooler but then I wouldn't have the support of the marathon training group PLUS tomorrow is when I drive to Wisconsin get RJ and see Seester Goon.

weh.

Oh, and I forgot to charge my Garmin.

double weh.

It's charging now while I sip a little coffee and wait for the Advil to kick in. I feel totally craptacular. fark.

I'm with you Goon. F-ing hot/humid here already. Wanted to do my long run today because I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow, but it got cut down to 3 miles. And I walked 1.5 of that. Right ankle, left foot & left hip ACHE, and I was gasping about 1.5 in. Just couldn't keep my heart rate where it should be.

Guess I'll have to try again Monday.

Greetings, all.

Sorry to hear that the morning has been a little craptastic for a couple of you guys!

Today was my return-to-cardio day after sidelining myself voluntarily. First mile. Woohoo! Passed a group of gentlemen out for a walk and heard one of them say "Wow, she's FAST!". (not fast to most of you guys, but it still felt nice, until I realized I was nearly at my 5k race pace. DOH!.)

Mile 2. Stopped and gave/received LOTS of lubbins to a little yorkie. Happiness all around.

Mile 7. /enter ET voice. Oooooouuuuucccchhhh.

Mile 10. Holy (#)#)*$#

I figured the week off would make me feel better. By the end of the run, I'm not so sure. Quads are really sore, and calf muscles are so beat up, they're forming their own language of swear words for me. Oof. I'll try using the Zensah calf sleeves today in the hopes that they'll help out.

BigG - I hope it all worked out for you. Doing those 20+ mile long runs solo is definately harder than with your training group.

So I too had a long 21 miles on the schedule for todays. A sub group of my training group and I made a pact to start slow and we actually did. We did the first couple of miles in about the 9:30 m/m zone. When I walked out my front door at 4:30am the humidity slapped me in the face. I thought we were going to be in for a tough one. As the sun came up the clouds broke and the humidity went down some. Then as we rolled into a water stop at 9.71 miles a new batch of clouds rolled in. Shortly there after, it started to spit rain on us. By the time we were at mile 15 or so, it was a solid drizzle. We could tell that it had gotten a bit cooler. my guess is the actual temp went down about 6 degrees. Temp at the end of the run was 74 with solid rain. Completed the run in 3:09 about 9:00 m/m pace avg for the 21 miles.

I'm glad that's over with. Gotta line up and do it again next saturday.

Good runs to all. We have 2 back to back birthday parties that the kids are going to today, followed by dinner at another families house.

I'm sorry that you guys in the Midwest have such brutal weather. It was gorgeous here this morning for a run! It was 68 and sunny when I started and 79 and cloudy when I finished. I did a total of 21.4 miles, which is the farthest I've gone in a while. And I felt like I could've kept going for ever. I probably would have kept going too, if I was just a little dumber than I already am.

Problem is, I wasn't going too terribly fast. My overall average pace was 9:14. That's not terrible, and it's nice that the fastest miles were at the end. (Miles 19-21 were 8:59, 8:57, 8:57). But even those fastest miles were still slower than my average pace will need to be if I want a PR at TCM. So I'm kinda re-thinking that PR plan. In fact, I'm wondering how the heck I ever set that previous PR in the first place. It's been 2.5 years since my marathon PR, and I think I'm a much stronger runner now. Yet keeping a 8:45 pace for 26.2 miles seems so much harder now. What the hell? Have I just gotten too old?

Oh by the way, today's run put me over 1000 miles for the year so far. (Up to 1010 now, like the AM all-news station in NYC). I guess that puts me just a little behind Missy's watermelon for the year.

It's less than I would have liked to have for Aug 14, if you had asked me on Jan 1. But considering my seizures and car accident and lots of hot and humid weather, I think I can't complain about 1000...

wow BOB - great job today!! I can honestly say I do not ever remember having a 20+ run where I felt I could keep on going. I don't think I am cut out for marathons though

Craptastic 2.5 miles yesterday

6 miles this morning MUCH later than I normally am out (late night last night - Twins game and then beers afterwards). Sweaty! 15K race tomorrow. We'll see how that goes!

BigG - good luck on your long run!

Hi Gang -

Nice 21 milers Tim and boB! That is awesome that you felt so strong boB!

Excellent work Ailarie - rest those calves now.

It was hot out there this morning Brandy. Good luck tomorrow. 15k races are fun! Is Baggs doing it?

BigG - hope the 20 miles went ok.

I got 9.75 total done today. 6 miles at home about 5:00 a.m. and then a 6k race at 9:00 a.m. (sunny at 77 at the start). Had hoped to do the race as my tempo workout (7:40ish pace), but it was too hot to maintain pace. Finished at 8:06 pace. It was a memorial run for our old neighbor who was 22 years old and killed in a single car accident in December and left a 3 year old daughter (she was a single mom). The race route was through my old neighborhood. Lots and lots of PINK everywhere because it was her favorite color, including everyone singing happy birthday to her (birthday was yesterday) and releasing pink balloons. They had over 400 people running it, which is huge for a first year event here. Very emotional.

16 miles somewhere tomorrow.

I probably would have wimped out and eased back into that first run.

I'm back. That was hands down the hardest run I have ever completed. Full Sun. Humid as hell. Hot. Forgot my sunglasses. And whoever designs these routes is a masochist. The first 5 miles had BIG hills. If I could figure out downloading from my Garmin, I'd show you. By mile 10 there was not a single dry spot left on my clothes. I was drenched. There was a LOT of walking in the last half of that run.

I forgot to turn my Garmin back on after the last water stop but was slogging the run out with another gal so from her Garmin I figured that we ran a total of approximately 19.5 miles in about 4 hours 15 minutes. I don't care that that I didn't hit 20, I don't care that I was slow, I'm calling it good enough and will have a better run the next time. Had an ice bath, iced chocolate nirvana and now have on some compression socks and am downing some homemade macaroni and cheese.

I have 10 miles to run tomorrow - it's supposed to be a LOT cooler, so I'm looking forward to that. However, I haven't asked my legs how THEY feel about another 10 tomorrow. heh.

YAY for the good runs today!!

Well the long bike ride went indoors due to some time constraints. It only lasted about half the time it should have do to hooha constraints. I am think that I will hop back on and see what I can do about finishing up.

I ran with the group again this morning. Decent little run. I think somebody complained about the speed last week, because she slowed down this week.

It's a lot cooler here this a.m. - about 15 degrees cooler, but still 93% humidity. I'm getting ready to go for a run. Not sure I'll be running all 10 miles today. We'll see how the bod responds once I'm out there running. Yesterday was rough, and my legs were weird and jumpy in the night, I had to get up and stretch some more. But they're feeling pretty good this morning and my feet aren't crunchy this a.m. though, like I expected them to be. But I won't really know until I'm out there running. So Off I GO!!!
