Good morning all! I had a rough time this morning w/the humidity, really could not breathe at all - it sucked. Pulled myself through 6 mi with the help of a couple running buddies.

Hope you're feeling better, Brandy

I didn't run this morning. But I did bring my stuff to run at lunch.

The chair of mom's board died last night in his sleep from a heart attack. She's in shock.

And I found a dress I'd like to get for my niece's wedding by my sister told me I best not get it. You see, the bridesmaids' dresses are black and white. And the dress I like is black and white. If I show up with a nicer dress than them, the bride will LOSE it. Hmm...what to do.

Maria - hopefully our weather is coming your way b/c it was finally aWeSoMe here this morning! 57 degrees for my 15 miler. That is not to say the run wasn't tough, but it was nice to have the cooler weather. I was able to keep decent pacing, but my run was tougher than I would like. Too little sleep and too much stress right now.

Clare - sorry about your mom's friend. Also, good luck with the wedding attire. I hate dressing for weddings. Too many silly "rules." I say just wear something you love.

15 miles on a Wednesday, RIL? Wow, nice.

I have to rearrange my typical running "schedule". Although I don't follow any specific training plan, I usually do a long-ish run on Wednesday and then an easy run (or even a day off) on Thursday. But based on the kiddo's new schedule, it looks like I'll have to switch those days. Hopefully it won't be a big deal...

So that means that today will be some sort of easy run, if I make it out there at all...

Morning Gang -

Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday here and on FB. I've been at a conference in Duluth, so wasn't able to get online (and actually only ran 3 miles since Saturday, so not much to post on!).

Brandy - saw your HM results. Sorry it wasn't what you wanted, but it sounds like it was pretty warm and humid here early Saturday. In cooler weather you have a much faster HM in you. Are you doing the Mpls 13.1 on the 21st? I am.

Clare - I say screw it, wear the black and white dress! As long as its not the exact same as them, you will be fine. B&W dresses are fairly common and there will probably be others with that color combo anyway.

Good runs to all!

Clarebear - Wear what you wish m'dear. As long as you're not actually trying to out-dress the bridesmaids, I don't see any problem. As RTFL said, black/white combos are common, so it's likely that others may wear that combo as well.

Feel better soon, Brandy!

RiL - 57 degrees? Wow. I can't remember what 57 degrees feels like! Nice job on the 15 miler!

Bob - What's up with Jillian's new schedule? She's not yet old enough for kindergarten, is she?!

Nope - I have Ragnar that weekend and I'll be sleeping in on Sunday :) Good luck though! I am trying to find another HM but nothing is really working scheduling wise.

I am feeling better - not 100% but better

Re: the dress: I would be careful. Ask if you can see a picture of the bridesmaid dresses just to make sure they aren't too similar.

hi all.

I've been working around the clock - trying to get finals graded on top of my regular job. Been hectic, and I haven't been to the gym NEARLY enough. We have 5 million things to do before leaving Saturday for vacation with the family, and 8 million things to do before the wedding, so I'm a bit stressed...

So - what did I do to help manage the stress??? I accepted an invitation from my boss to go to the USA - Mexico futbol game tonight. Brilliant. I like my bosses, but I really don't have time for this. Grrrr......

I hope you all are well. I'll try to check in later. We'll see how the day goes!

Good lord, I'm tired today. My 4 days in a row of fun have caught up to me, I'm looking forward to having nothing in particular to do tonight and will just go home and veg. There is a better than even chance that I will crash out for a brief nap, I'm that tired. I may also get out for a walk in the neighborhood, as part of my attempts to get used to just getting out there again. I'm looking to start run/walking by the end of the month.

Clare- wear what you want. You are not going to steal the show from anyone even if your dress is prettier. If your niece does blow a gasket, then I hope someone will remind her that people will remember HER being a brat more so than you wearing a cute dress.

I started replacing the transmission on my lawn tractor last night. Although it will be a fun project, the parts alone are $$$$$$$$$$$. There are times I miss my 0.2 property in NJ.

Ailarie, no the kiddo isn't in kindergarten yet. Time flies, but not quite that fast. But she'll be in Pre-K now, so just one more year before kindergarten. I'm actually really looking forward to that, because our town has all-day kindergarten, so we'll save a ton of $ once she's out of this daycare...

Good Morning!

boB - this coming year will be the first year in 13 years that we pay NO daycare. AND we pay off both cars. It's like getting megaraises...but I think it's already mostly accounted for, as usual.

Clare - if your neice is the Bridezilla type, wear something else and save the B&W one for another occasion. If she's not, wear the dress.

I ran 4+ this morning and then did a cool ab workout I found on Exercise TV on demand. It was only 10 minutes, but it concentrated on abs, obliques and low back. I loved it and it will be super easy to do it regularly.

Mmm, breakfast. DH has been including me in his breakfast preparations this summer. Eggs, turkey bacon on half a sandwich thin. It's so nice of him and it really helps me b/c normally I would skip breakfast and just drink coffee all morning.

Not fun: Have a Dr's appt this afternoon and I get to hear how I've gained poundage since my appt last year. Am thinking of requesting a thyroid check. I DO NOT want to hear that it's just b/c I'm getting older. lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala

Hi all - well, I didn't want to slug around for another day, so I ended up walk/running 3 miles, mainly as a way to not re-tweak my calf. Mission accomplished, so maybe a little more strenuous a workout today.

I'm thinking of getting a quality coffee grinder - I've noticed freshly ground makes all the difference, but the cheapo grinders don't do the trick. However, I'm still trying to justify the money needed to get a quality machine (I've figured $200 is the minimum.) I'll bounce it around my head further before saying yay or nay.

Clare - yay on the dress

Brandy - feel better soon!

GoV - have fun! Over here, the stands would probably be filled mostly with folks with Mexican heritage; I imagine it's different there.

Litch - good to see you posting back here regularly

QOD - It was the first snowfall I ever encountered, I think when I was about 3 years old. We were stationed in Norfolk, and I can remember the front lawn being coated with all sorts of fluffy whiteness. I had my favorite dark green jacket on (I called it the "X" jacket, because it had this X-like symbol on the arm sleeve) and was eager to get romping there. However, my sister didn't want anything to do with this snow stuff and was clinging to my mom on the porch. I guess my mom wasn't too keen on having me wander off too much, dealing with my cranky sister, and/or me overexposing to the cold, so my playtime outside was squelched much to my dismay.

One of the smartest things I did was when each kid reached the point where we were not paying for daycare, we took the money we had been paying into daycare and put it into a 529 plan instead. No change in income, a little state tax deduction, and it adds up. And thankfully (with the stock market these days), DDs 529 money is all in cash at this point - she is entering HS this month (how the fuck did I become the father of a high schooler??????).

QOD - 1973 world series. Yup, my first vivid memories are of the Mets loosing. I remember I had a bet with my Grandma that they would lose, and I collected on the bet. I won a hot dog and sundae from Seduttos at the Staten Island Mall.

QOD - I can't say my age w/certainty but likely somewhere around 2-3, my mother is a teacher and used to have her own preschool; I recall being in the classroom (although I wasn't enrolled yet, my older brother was) and hanging out near the reading area replete with bean bags and other comfy loungy seating. In that same area there was a set of containers that each had a certain smell where you tried to identify each, I loved everything about that nook!
