Hi KS

My big plans include running a few trail races. Since I haven't been able to race, I have just been working through every weekend. Time to go on a few roadtrips.

Started off August with a just right run. Legs and lungs both tired at the end. 9 miles in 65:37 with the last 4 under 7 minute pace. Temps climbing fast but I got done before it hit 80°

State Fair was great as I made my yearly pilgrimage to the mecca. That would be the Butter Cow they sculpt in the dairy building.

The food was even better. Started off with sugar waffles followed by pig wings. Went healthier grabbing an apple in the afternoon. (dipped in caramel, rolled in coconut, and covered with milk chocolate). Had a few snacks at the cooking demonstrations and ended with corn nuggets. Stood by the deep fried candy trailer 5 minutes deciding whether to try the Buckeyes but ended up passing this year.

pigs have wings? must be those genetically modified pigs. . . Sounds like you splurged for a day and got a taste of the typical american diet.

the year is flying by for me too John. Is that a sign of age? because suddenly I feel like I sound like my mom talking about how every year goes by faster and faster. Hard to believe school is starting in 5 wks. I want to put on the brakes!

I still had 6 vacation that I had to use up by the end of the month or I would lose them, so except for the week of August 8th, every week is a short week for me. just 3 days this week. We are going to try and cram in as much as we can, without driving ourselves crazy, this month. Going camping later this week (taking our son fishing for the first time ever), might go to Redding, CA this Sunday (3 hr drive) to go to Waterworld Park with some friends. I have some free passes to the water slides in Ashland,OR also, so will try and pick a week day to bring David there also. And going to get in a few local hikes and a day of rafting on the Rogue also.

plus, August has to be a better month for me for running. Only ran 64.5 miles in July.ughh. I have two races I'm planning on for Sept (although I haven't registered for either yet). A 5K early in the month and a HM at the end of the month.

Hi John, Tamster and Rip!

Rip, I'm glad I don't go to too many of those sort of things... the temptation would be too great!

6.5 miles on the trails down the road, exploring some new bits. Bumped into another guy I ran with last weekend way back in the woods. Nice to know just about everyone running the paths these days.

This month? I'm registered for a 12K trail race this coming weekend in a new series being put on by the main mountainbiking outfit in the area. Haven't seen a course map, but from what one of my work buddies/mountainbiker tells me, it threatens to be several laps of a ski hill. Good thing I'm not to proud to walk. Following that is another trail race of the main series I run, again about 10-12K. And the week after that is the final race for the new series, being held about 10 minutes from home....again about the same distance.. don't want to miss that either. Good thing DH is such a sport about this, as that mean a race for every weekend over our two weeks of holidays.

Holly and I want to do the Knoxville Marathon some time... It'd almost be a good warm up for Boston!

Always seems like forever ago since I've been here. Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well with Rip snarfing up fair food (pig wings??) and Tammy finally taking her boy fishing (really? first time?), KS is running in heat I can't even imagine, Mike heading to the Cape for beer and clams (hmmm), Happy Feat tearing up her front yard and stairs, Heme finding more trail races to keep her busy (with new shoes!) and tomwhite learning the same things over and over and over... and Hi Johnny! Sounds like you're almost as (in)frequent here than I am. Almost.

Had a greta week last week with 64.3 miles total... and a 11.1 mile tempo run on Saturday (7:53 avg with strong negative split, wheee!), and a 20.5 mile run yesterday at a good clip (8:05) with pretty consistent miles and again a neg. split. I rarely do that, so it was fun to see it two days in a row. On Sunday, it helped to put the miles in the first half. Gave me 250.1 miles for the month of July, the most in a loooong time.

Got a half-marathon this Saturday, a marathon on the 20th and a 5k trail race on the 27th. That oughta keep me busy.

Gym day today: elliptical, weights, walked to and from.

Hi all - nearly 9 pm already! Did an 8-mile tempo run tonight, this time FIVE miles at goal pace - adding a mile every week - we'll see how far I can go with that and still have miles left for warmup and cool down. Then a phone call from my unfortunate brother (still) in need, but managing to keep afloat barely. I wish I had enough $$ to solve his problems once and for all - but I don't, so I give him a shoulder to lean on as best I can.
