Good Morning Masters! Rise and shine!

woke up this a.m. to the smell of fresh rain and the pavement slightly damp. Didn't know it rained last night but sure smelled good this morning. DH and DS are down in Sacramento for his bday weekend at the races.

I haven't run yet, but once the puppies chill out and go into mid morning nap mode, then I'll get in a run.

Hi Tamster. We woke up to some wet surfaces this morning as well. Not good, since I planned to race and high humidity does not agree with me when I'm racing. Temps were in the mid-to high 70's. I got to my first race (Iowa Games cross country) in time to register on site, A little after 7 a.m., we were off on an 8K. I chatted with the guy I figured woud be my main competition, from about mile 1 to 2. After that, I kind of ran out of gas. He ended up first in our AG (60-64) and I got 3rd. For some reason, I had thought the 4K was first and I'd have time to sit in my air-conditioned car and sip an icy beverage before the second race at 8. As it turned out, I had only about 10 minutes to hit the porta-potty and change bibs (dry shirt and headband too). My nemesis from the 8K bailed on the 4K, allowing me to finish 3rd in my AG in that one too. Two medals in one day--mission accomplished.

My fitness has suffered due to my slow recovery from a sprained knee, but the knee did its job today so I am optimistic that I can up the weekly mileage. My goal of a fall marathon or ultra may not come to pass--oh well.

Hi Tammy

Congrats FO

25 mile bike ride this morning. 6 mile stretch I hit it pretty good; rest of it poking around with the group. 2 miles from the end two novice riders crash in front of me. One girl swerves from out side to her right and into a parking lot in front of the rider on the inside. duh. Cut under her knee enough to make you puke. Or at least me. :) They panicked and called an ambulance for stitches. DW said she would have waited for me to get the truck and take her or we would have just rode to the hospital. It was only 2 short miles away. Have to hold your line when you're riding with a group.

Good news is that dw just went to run a mile and her leg seems to be healed finally. We have only 12 weeks before our marathon. She won't be in race condition but will we conditioned enough to run it and get another state.

Happy Saturday everyone.

KS - sounds like an enjoyable bike ride...until the end...what WAS that girl thinking? swerving like that!

That's great news that your DW will be able to participate with you in the marathon.

Yes, TW, hoping all went fine with Pickle's checkup.

Congratulations on the medals, FO.

I ran my planned 14M. Started out the first 4 with Kristin who sneaks us up to 10:20 pace when I want to stick around 11. I think that affected the rest of my run. The last third was tough, requiring some effort to keep my mind in the game. I even had some "why am I doing this?" thoughts which I don't ever recall having before. Perhaps my legs are feeling the increased miles - 37 this week - might be my all time high. I'll cut back a bit this coming week, I think. Still, today's run ended up averaging 11:08 mpm and I achieved the run's purpose of building mental and physical endurance. So it's all good.

Great job, F.O.!

Good for you on that LR, Happy Feat! Save the memory of overcoming challenging runs. They get you through future trials.

Well I qualified. Now I have a 1/4 final match tomorrow morning. This guy hits it a ton. It will be a tough match. Worst part is that I'll have to miss my usual Sunday morning recovery run. I love my Sunday morning run....

What the others said, TW.... probably routine. But will be thinking of her Mon/Tues regardless. Have fun tomorrow.

Nice two-fer, FO!!!

Good 14, HappyFeat! Yes, you are probably feeling the extra mileage. I've found that when you're building miles, it's good to take a cut-back every 3 weeks or so.

Hi Tamster! Hi Mike!

Glad that beginner cyclist wasn't more badly hurt, and didn't take more riders out with her, KS.

The race today was fun. Got assigned to run the most remote water station this morning, deep in a gorgeous part of the woods, with a couple of students as helpers. Turned out it wasn't as far in as it was supposed to be, as the conservation truck couldn't navigate over a fallen tree. That left a 5K gap through the toughest terrain between water stops, on one of the hottest days yet this year. So we warned as many as we could that they'd be dry until they hit the 9K point. The kids were both from the suburbs and got treated to the sight of a deer and fawn on the way in and chipmunks on the way out..... the first of each they had ever seen. It was tough not to be running it, but was glad to be useful and in such a beautiful place.

Hi T FO KS HF TW IRM&HEME

Heme, the roof is a monster and I am not even a third done. Tear off included one layer of shingle, one layer of metal, and one layer of wood shake. Then I had to sheet it and roof it.

The section I am on now didn't have metal, but the wood shakes are really time consuming because you have to pound in all the little nails left. And the roof starts at 20 ft and goes up another 15 at a Swiss Chalet pitch!! Did I mention it has been 85° to 90° and sunny everyday?

After 13 hours today, I gopt home and took off for another run. This time I grabbed my Garmin to see what I was doing. 4.17 miles in 33:00 with splits of 8:41, 8:07, 7:38, and 7:23.

Good luck on the Ping Pong match tomorrow morning Mike. Your speed and finesse will surely overcome the other guy's hitting power.

Great job on the hardware Fortunate One.

Good running, Rip. That roof sounds like a beast. We just had ours redone, but had to get the pros in as we needed a few trusses replaced and the pitch is way too steep for us anyway.

Sorry to hear about the set-back, TW.

Ran about 9 solo and nekid miles of wooded trails this morning, trying to get it done before the heat got too bad. No Garmin, no iPod for a change, and the lightest attire that modesty and chafing-prevention would allow for. Found lots biting flies and mosquitos that helped keep me moving.

On Sunday, I indulged in a little "hair of the dog" and ran 7.5 M with running friends who all thought it was hot, hot, hot. We enjoyed outdoor seeting at a favorite coffee shop afterwards. Several hours later I am starting to feel hydrated again, set to enjoy some soccer on the telly.

Nice run Heme, FO.

I feel like a slacker. No runs in 2 days. Had to play a match early this morning. I think my opponent left his game at home though, so I was able to move on, winning 5&3. Semi's next w/e. I'd run now but:

12 + miles this morning, 60°F & rain at 8AM, 61°F & drizzle at 10AM. I know a lot of you are experiencing extreme heat, but it hasn't made it here. Right now (3:30PM) it's barely 70°F and still overcast.

Nice running yesterday & today FO, way to represent team greybeard.

Glad to hear your wife is recovering KS. So, are you guys 50 staters?? If so, you must be one of the few podium finish 50 staters.

Nice run the other day HappyFeat. Your physical & mental endurance is becoming quite impressive.

Hang in there, TW & Pickles. Positive thoughts your way.

Congrats on the advancement Mike. I'd stay in and drink beer also, (if I were a beer drinkin' man)

Thanks for volunteering yesterday Heme, nice nekkid run today too. The calf seems to be improving. May need a picture of it to compare with the classic red bathing suit photo, just to be sure though

Rip, you're an animal...I could match those splits, (except maybe the last one) but I'd need COMPLETE REST that day AND the day before.
