I only got 3.25 on the TM last night instead of 5. T-storms moved in pretty quickly and one incident of thunder was so sudden, loud, and nearby that I pretty much jumped sideways while still on the treadmill. I figured the safety of my TM was > than getting the remaining 1.75 miles in, so I bailed and unplugged the TM!

I'll shoot for that 5 again this evening.

Probably a wise move, Ailarie. It's always good to live and run another day...

I had a decent run on the hills last night. It was warm (again), and it kept me slow. But I felt fine. It's a bit cooler today, and in fact is supposed to be a gorgeous day. So a run this evening should be quite pleasant. It'll just be a short easy thing, but it should be fun...

Hi Everyone-

Looks like you guys are putting in a lot of speedy stuff--a few bumps, bruises and ouches, too...healing vibes to Kath and those who need it. Glad things went well for Duck...

Have a great time in DC, Maria! Enjoy seeing your "girl" Moonie!

Better safe than sorry, Ail...my mom had a friend who was almost struck by lightning in her kitchen (through the phone) during a bad storm...it does happen. Besides, I have a feeling you aren't low on miles. ;)

FAST Tim and Brandy!!

I'm certainly an inconsistent poster, but I do follow you guys. I hope that's not really annoying, but it seems to be how I roll. However, I've been running A LOT. I'm on a very "flexible" schedule but decided this week I need something more specific--this one is too loosey goosey and I'm always aiming for the upper limit. This week, for example, I ran 8 on Monday, 10 on Tuesday and 12 yesterday. It's the limit of what I'm able to to handle day after day, though. I'm really beat up today. Easy, recovery 5 today.

No marathons this year, but a 5k this weekend, a half in August, and hopefully the TCM 10 miler which is my goal race. I think another 10k or 5k in there would be good, too.

Feeling strong and good--working on cleaning up the diet, too. It's all good. Goon got me turned on to chia seeds and I really like them for many things.

SO inspired by Meredith Murphy and her completion of Badwater. I have no words about that but find myself telling everyone about her. Inspired by people who do things that are truly courageous...I guess and I've never known anyone IRL or otherwise that did something that seriously hardcore. Runners rock. :)

Hope you are all well... take it easy in the heat!

morning

well, I got like 4 hrs of sleep last night and I am cranky/dazed. Not sure what it was but I was just really warm and feeling meh. I am assuming it was from pushing too hard in the run last night which was required. I ran out in Eagan (Crane's neck o' the woods) and the plan was to run from a friend's house to Lebanon Hills (trail/lake area) do some stuff there and come back for a total of 8 miles.

Well, she ran with me into the trail area and we stopped at 1.5 for her to show me the trail I should take when YOUCH all of the sudden something bit me. "oh the deer flies are really bad right now". So I am thinking, as long as I keep on running I would be fine right? WRONG. I tore through the trails at 9-915 pace while getting eaten alive. They were in my ears, my hair, on my back and I even got 3 of them IN MY MOUTH. AND BITING! I quickly was looking for a way out but the problem is that I really couldn't stop and look at the map for longer than 20 seconds before having 5 of them on me. I found myself screaming "leave me the F* alone you F*ing F*ers" at the top of my lungs whilst flailing. If anyone would have been stupid enough to be out there, I would have been quite the sight to see.

I also don't really know the area so I kind of was winging it. I ended up getting out of there at about 5 miles and opted to run the big hills instead (craney - pilot knob from Jensen lake). I then misjudged how far it was back and needlessly added on a bit coming back on Diffley (omg huge mile hill) and ended up with 9 miles. All at a 915 pace. I was so drained afterwards that the answer was an enthusiastic yes when said friend asked me if I wanted a wine freezy.

Sigh.

Some easy peasy recovery miles tonight and probably JM shred.

Melis - any thoughts on Women Run the Cities 10 miler? also what TIME is your 5K? It is going to be so freaking hot this weekend. :(

Oh, no, Brandy..if you run Eagan again let me know and I can go with you to guide except no way can keep your pace...some of those hills you ran are BRUTAL--the Diffley one I do alone without anything else added! Lebannon is really bad right now...wet spring and basically a park in a swamp...tried hiking there a few weeks ago and gave up due to skeeters.

5k on Sunday is the Highland Festival 5k for any MN peeps--but we start at 9 AM. NINE AM!!! In the summer? Seriously?? I'm gonna be a puddley puddle. :)

Thanks for the info on Women Run the Cities..that is certainly an option if we don't make TCM!!! Love it!!!

I'm super crabby this AM. Bah.

When I was trudging up Diffley I actually got a cat call...I was like "seriously dude, I have to be majorly looking sad right about now and soaking wet"

9 am is stupid

Even if you do get into TCM, do the race! Great tune up!

Morning gang -

Hi Crane!! Sounds like a good 3 days in a row! Big mid-week mileage!

Uggggg, Brandy. Sounds horrible! I got bit by just one of them on my run yesterday morning and I was saying the F-bomb to it. I would have been out of control with the F-bombs too if they were attacking me like that.

Track workout this morning. 7.77 miles total. My lucky day! Usually I'll run a few extra steps to run a round number, but when it ends up on lucky 7's, I'll take it. Workout was 6 x 400 at controlled pace, supposed to be trying for consistency. He had numbers for each of us to try to be at. Mine was 1:35. Ended up at 1:39, 1:36, 1:35, 1:35, 1:35, 1:35. Felt challenging, but not horrible. Then we did 2 miles of all out for 200, jog 200, repeat. That sucked. I was wiped out.

Good runs to all today!

hmm - something about Brandy's story made me think of Voo. Anyone else? :)

I was on another campus yesterday, so I didn't get to check in here. I actually went to the gym yesterday morning. Elliptical and some indoor track work. Nothing speedy, just reminding my legs how to move again. Nothing today, tomorrow I'll be walking the streets of NYC :)

Brandy - Argh. Although I must admit that I snickered at the level of F-bombs that flew, you have my utmost sympathies. Critters (mosquitoes in particular) seem to flock to me while leaving most of my fellow human brethren alone.

Cranie - you know that if that TCM thing doesn't work out, there's this little event two weeks later in Grand Rapids.......

Clare - your summer is alive and well in Georgia. Trust me, I'd pay to send you some of this heat if I could. Though today is only going to be around 90F. As in, what our normal high should be this time of year! Not bad at all when lately we've been around 96-100 with a heat index up to 107. Wanna trade climates for a while?

5k's at 9am in the summer? That's just downright nuts!!!

Afternoon all! Bad morning to sleep in, it looks GORGEOUS out. Weather should hold up through this evening too for hill repeats.

Becca – I forgot you were so close! Wish I had more time and maybe we could hook up.

Thanks Tim & Mindi… I’ll def get in touch w/Hawk

Nice workout, Cindi!

It looks like I'll be doing the run portion (and maybe the bike portion) of a tri this weekend!!!

It's been hot as the surface of the sun here...with rain forest like humidity to go with it. Last night, I did the run from the LRS with 3 others in a full on down pour. That's some of the best running weather that we've had in the past two weeks.

Great workouts gang!

and maybe the catcall was because you were soaking wet Brandy!

6.1 for me today. Started at 1:15 pm but it's perfect out. Almost no humidity and temps in the low 80s. But todays the last day. Supposed to hit 90+ this weekend. Pace felt good for me.

Hey everybody! Checking in a little late, but it has been a great day. My cousin, a.k.a. child care provider is at RockFest today and tomorrow. Couldn't find anyone to fill in, so I get an unexpected 2 days off! This is great news so I can get my longer runs in before the surface of the sun arrives this weekend. Seriously, Sunday it is now supposed to be 95, feels like 114. Good lord. And it will be in the 80s and muggy early am.

SO, I ran 7 easy last night. 12 slow this morning. I was wiped out tired and my legs were heavy. Was hoping to get my 18 miler in, but when I checked in at home (the boys were alone for part of the time) they were fighting, so I couldn't leave again. Going to get up supah early to get my 18 in tomorrow. track workout, 7, 12, 18 in a row is pushing it, but as Melis says, that's how I roll. :)

Speaking of Melis, nice to see ya! Pop in any time!

Brandy - that sounds awful!

Sweet track workout Cindi! I think speed work really helps in marathon training. Every summer I do track work and my best marathons always seem to come in the fall. Hmmmmm.

Marier - definitely get in touch with Hawk. Hopefully ya'll can meet up and run together.

What/Who am I missing? Oh, Ailarie - definitely the right call. Lightning scares the carp out of me. When we were in Wyoming, we were told about a whole group of mountain climbers that were all struck by lightning (12 or so of them) because they were all tethered together. Crikey. Playing it safe is good.

Fitness QOD: What does it take to get you on the TM in summer? In the winter, if it is dark and icy, the TM is a no brainer. But in the summer - NEVER. This weekend is going to be brutal though and I am flirting with the idea of the basement TM (65 degrees).

Fitness Qod: I'm on my treadmill a lot. More so in the summer than winter due to the insane temps & humidity. Dry heat I might could deal with. Constant saturation is another thing all together.

Sometime, I'll feel guilty for the dogs being cooped up / alone for so long that it makes me happier to go home as soon as I can after work and let them out. even if it means I'm on the treadmill. (especially if I've been out and about a lot more than usual over the previous few days.) Though in all fairness (and with nice weather) I'm just as apt to go home during lunch where I can let the dogs out out for 20 minutes, grab some food on the go, and then get a quick run in after work. :)

I can't really remember cold weather limits right now!

No, mine really doesn't hurt that bad. I don't know if it's this chiro or what, but I was referred to him by my sports orthopedist. While he's not a sports specialist, he's very sports savy.

Well, part of why mine hurts is because the tissue he is pushing on is inflamed, and my bones are twisted out of place. The moves themselves don't hurt*, it's when he shoves the bones back into place.

*the one move that does hurt is what he calls the "rip you in half maneuver." That's exactly what it feels like he is doing. ug.

I'm somewhat of a potato today. Got to bed waaay too late last night to get up at 5am, so didn't get a run in this morning. Did get my core work done though, and it's cool enough that I'm going to take the Beastie for a walk once I get my clothes changed. He is already circling me. He is psychic. I haven't said a word.
