Hey, all. The game last night was a success for the team, though less so for myself. Last time we played this team, we won 24-1. This time, we won 29-0. Since there's a mercy rule, we only played 3 innings, but I got 4 at bats. I was 2-4 with a legitimate single and a sketchy single. I got to base on an error, which apparently doesn't count and I was forced out at first. Ah, well. I also tripped over my bat every time I hit. I need to work on balance in the box.

I just checked my e-mail and had a paper rejected from a journal. I knew it was coming, but I was hoping that it would come while I was away. Now I need to obsess about it (but hopefully send it out again) before I head to Israel next Saturday.

Gad, what a craptastic day - rainy and windy. Even worse, it's the day of my dad's event that I've volunteered my time for the last several years (I did this year too, but not to the extent in past years). It's not supposed to rain like this in June in California, but maybe that's just the topper on how weird the weather has been this year so far

Hope you all have good weekends in store for you!

Fun: got my car fixed this morning and it was only $35.

I'm trying to get as much outside sstuff done as I can before the storms hit. It's not yard work - I'm building some display shelves for the festival in a couple weeks Want to get them assembled today and then I can do coats of paint/varnish after work. Got all the pieces cut with the big saw (out in the garage) and now need to screw everything together. It's kind of awkward - another set of hands would be helpful - but Dh worked last night and is asleep.

Whew it's hot here today. I ran around doing some errands, including moving some stuff from my apt out to my storage unit. I really need to learn to do that on a cooler day though.

Also, as part of my errands, I went to a local yarn shop with some $ collected by some of my coworkers. One of our colleagues is earning her PhD next week and she is having an open house this afternoon. She is a knitter and we all chipped in to get her a gift card to the yarn shop which is close to where she lives (not far from me either). The ladies there knew her when I said who I was buying for, in fact. Oh my, the yarns in there are just fabulous, but most of them would intimidate me right now. I'm not experienced enough yet to want to mess with some of them. I went to the sale section and got a lovely gray wool ball that should be enough for a scarf (it was the only one in that color and just crying for someone to take it home ).

And then I stopped for at Jeni's since it was so hot and there is a shop just a few doors down from the yarn shop. I had 2 small scoops from their seasonal flavors: strawberry buttermilk and Rockmill golden ale & apricot. Jeni has an ice cream cookbook being released next week and I plan to get it and an ice cream maker.

Well, I braved the rain for a bit and checked out my dad's event yesterday. What was typically a crowd of 30K total was unfortunately reduced to mere hundreds at any one time because of the unseasonal rains, and quite a bit of the grassy area set aside for the event was puddle city. A couple hours of standing around and sloshing a bit was a bit too much, as I was pretty tired by the time I headed back home.

Today's fun includes baking up some goodies for my workplace - I figure I oughta' reciprocate for the nice fruit basket and card they sent me.

Hey everyone! I've missed you all this week and hope you are doing well. Life is whipping on by with lots to do, but the fullness of my life is grand (and thankfully temporary).

Our GOTR race was awesome. It was HOT, so it was hard, but it was really fantastic. Check out my pictures on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2031973357548.119937.1190554559#!/pages/Girls-on-the-Run-Cottage-Grove/178792771134

I also threw a SURPRISE 40th birthday party for my sister yesterday. She was shocked and we all had such a wonderful time.

I was planning to work today, but decided to catch up on life a bit and take a breather. The next 2 weeks are going to be really crazy at work (and my final GOTR celebration at my house Tuesday night), so I am using today to catch up some on everything else. I feel a little guilty about it, but I KNOW I need it. We had lots of filing deadlines last week and I hardly had a moment to breathe. So I am taking it now and gearing up for the next big push.

Hope you are all FABULOUS!

Oh! I forgot to tell you the craziest, yet incredibly awesome thing! James told me yesterday he was just going to walk the Komen 5K. Well, we got there and he decided he needed to beat one of the girls that he has had this little running rivalry with for the last couple years. The kid took off like a wild man and his running buddy couldn't keep up at all. He said he finished in 19 something, which I really can't believe. He wouldn't lie about it - so my guess is the clock at the finish was a little off (I didn't really look when I finished). BUT, several people told me he was crazy fast and was in the top 20-25 finishers. Unfortunately he did not have a chip on, so we won't know, but the little dude is getting CrAzY fast. I am going to take him out to a 5K soon to see how he does. [email protected]. Kid is not supposed to be faster than me ALREADY! He is only 9!!

Below is his pic from the wax museum where he dressed up as Pre. It was awesome.

We had a storm blow through here last night which had some crazy winds for about 10 minutes, and a little hail. I didn't think too much of it but then saw on my Facebook feed that the storm did damage at the Columbus Arts Festival. Several artists had significant losses. I had been undecided about whether to go down or not this year, but after seeing that and the requests from the festival that people come out to support the artists, I did go down this afternoon. I bought a small painting from one artist who lost nearly everything and most of what she did recover had damage. I really liked her cityscapes and actually would like to buy more from her sometime. The one I got today is called Violet City, and is in blue/violet tones with a red sun on it, and any damage to it is minimal. The arts festival started a fund to help the artists who were affected by the storm, so I also contributed to that. I love the arts festival so I am glad I went. There is always so much there that I want to buy!
