6.1M on the TM yesterday gave me the highest monthly total I've had in 6 months - coming in at 95.5 miles. Jeesh. Between tooth issues, break-in issues, storm damage issues, and general wear-and-tear breaks before/after half marathons and such, I have not hit a 100 mile-month since October. Grr. Must work on that!

Tonight will be another 5 or so on the TM.

Morning Gang -

Hi Ailarie.

Looks like we had some good running and racing over the weekend. Nice races KP and Craney! What's next on the schedule for both of you?

Excellent work with your tri, Lora! You guys who do tri's really amaze me. I'm not that coordinated!

Day 2 of TCM training for BigG? How did it go?

Feeling better, boB?

I got 8 miles done this morning with some speedy stuff mixed in (4x400m, 2x1600m, 4x200m). It was harder than it should have been thanks to 68 degrees, humidity and wind!

Good runs to all today!

Good morning. Back to work. Hrmph.

Congrats to all the racers this weekend! Looks like some good results!

And (early) congrats to Ailarie for hitting 100 miles this month -- after the 5 on the TM tonight.

Nice speedy workout, RFTL. You guys who do tough workouts so early in the morning really impress me.

Yeah, I'm feeling better now. My head is a lot less scratchy today, so I guess the allergies are subsiding a little, at least temporarily. I had a somewhat hard workout last night. For whatever reason, I decided to do a little speedwork, even though it was 91 degrees. I managed 3x1 mile repeats at 8:15, 8:01 and 8:09. Not the fastest miles in the world, but I guess it'll do, considering the heat. All told it was about a 6 mile run. Today I'll only have time for 2-3 slow easy miles...

Oh, I've got a good running story... My wife and I went to a wedding on Sunday. We saw some friends we haven't seen in probably 4-5 years. We'd known this couple for a long time, but we'd just lost touch over the last few years. Anyway, they had both always been rather big people. But when we saw them on Sunday, we were shocked. They had both lost a ton of weight. The husband has lost 120 pounds, and the wife had lost 100. And the husband was running his first-ever 5k race the next day (yesterday). So of course I had to look up his results last night. And he finished in 29:52, which put him 63rd out of 126 in the M40-44 Age Group -- exactly 50% of the AG. Very impressive for his first-ever race! He doesn't live very far from the airport that holds the 5k race I do every Summer, so he said he'd sign up for that if I do it again. I never would've thought this guy could ever be a runner, but it looks like he's gotten the bug! :D

Morning all. CONGRATULATIONS RACERS and GETTING BACK OUT THERE Folks :)

I ran about half of what I hoped to over the weekend, but faster than I expected, so I'm calling it even:) I finally got new shoes (Asics Kayano) and my first set of superfeet. It was still wet out, so I ran in the old shoes with the superfeet in them. New shoes should get a debut tomorrow.

I've been experimenting with the miCoach app. I think it will be good for me to get in to some more quality type work until I pick a next race and start an official plan.

!!!!!! for some reason I had it in my head (even though I posted the date on this thread) that my running was over for May. Probably since Monday is usually a rest day, and today FEELS like Monday, being back in the office. I'm gonna hit 100 again! RAWR RAWR RAWR! Thanks for pointing that out Bob! You've made my day at 9:21 in the morning! :)

Also, I was a bit hit-and-miss over the holiday weekend, so without backtracking yet to catch up on the details, I hope all of our racers ran BOTH pretty and fast!

Hello hello. Thanks for the good wishes this weekend. I wish they'd helped. Ridiculously long-winded race report in my blog, but suffice it to say it wasn't my day. Oh well, onto the next race. My first tri of the season is June 18. That one should be way more fun!

Congrats to KP, Solar, Crane, and Clare! (Please tell me I didn't miss anyone.) I chatted with NCRG after we were both done Sunday, and while I know she's not happy with her race either, I'm still going to congratulate her anyway for getting out there and battling heat and stomach issues. Yay Shannon!

Cool story, Bob!

what's the miCoach app?

Yep Day Two of training. I GOT UP AND RAN BEFORE WORK! Woo Hoo!! But 87% humidity and I need to acclimate! whew! I was supposed to run 5 this a.m. but I didn't have it in me so I ended up with 3. I think all the yardwork over the weekend, plus the warm and hilly run yesterday kind of toasted my legs. Plus I need new shoes. 1.5 miles in to each run and my left IT band starts barking. I think I'll check out the Running Room after work. I'd LIKE to get in to see the Shoe Whisperer but I just can't seem to make it work.

it's been available for iphone for awhile, and just came out on droid in May. Basically you do a 12 minute assessment run based on effort, then it sets your pace ranges. Then you can select a training plan and it will use those ranges to give you verbal commands to speed up or slow down to hit the paces. It's a free app, and you don't have to have any other equipment besides the smartphone. I heard about it several months ago from a iphone user and have had additional iphone envy ever since. Worth a try for me!

Morning all! Jason and I headed up to CT Sunday afternoon after my hot run and chilled w/his brother, SIL and their kiddos through yesterday evening. It was nice and mostly chill, you know when one of the kids wasn't begging for something or whining (). Because I was up in CT w/out running gear and within a ton of time to actually run, yesterday was my rest day. We got home later last night and totally crashed, thus today's run will be happening post-work.

Congrats Lora!!

3 easy but hilly miles for me this morning.

Not sure what's next on the race calendar for me - I know I'm running the HM at Grand Rapids in Oct - but I'd like to get a 5k or 10k under my belt this summer.

Ailarie - nice job on the 100!

My brother just told me that our cousin tried to save someone's life this weekend. My cousin J found a runner on the side of the road in Florida, called 911, and did chest compressions until help arrived. They weren't able to revive him. I think he was already gone by the time J saw him.

boB - that's a great running story.

Keeping with the theme of great running stories, my training partner is on the cover of the July RunnersWorld. There's actually 8 cover shots and they're all people who are runners and cancer survivors. Jennifer's story is amazing and I'm proud to be a part of it. I paced Jennifer in her first ever marathon at Mercedes where she ran a 3:43 and BQ. Apparently each of the RW issues are slightly different. If you get a copy with her on the cover you get a longer version of her story. Her story is abbreviated and covered in an article by the editor in some of the editions with others on the front.

I don't recall where she was sitting. I think Natalie sat across from me. Here's a picture from that evening. She's sitting right next to me in the pic.

Hi all - first off, big props to all you racers this weekend: kp, Lora, Alexis, Shannon, Craney and Clare! (Hope I didn't miss anyone there...)

Starting to think about getting back on the training regimen at least. Tomorrow is my followup appointment - I guess I just got to remember to try not to overdo it.

Ugh Theia - sorry to hear that your cousin's efforts went for naught Nonetheless, kudos for him on trying to make a difference

boB & Tim - that's really cool re: your respective stories! In addition, it's kinda' nice to see people you know who are "average joe and jane" looking runners on the cover of RW
