So the temps were nice yesterday so I decided to have my first outdoor ride of the season! Why is this a big thing? Well because I switched to clipless pedals and I haven't been on a live ride with them... and you know, stopping. I was worried that I wouldn't get unclipped and would fall over and break something. But YEAH!! nothing was broken

Short run yesterday. Another short run today, I suppose.

As I mentioned late last night, I signed up for a 5 mile race in CT on June 19, and the Fairfield CT Half Marathon on June 26. I'll be spending more time racing in CT this year than anywhere else...

Morning Gang -

All that biking talk about saddles and pedals is so foreign to me. I would for sure go splat on a bike! Kudos to Tonya and Lora and the other bikers for getting out there!

11 miles this morning w/ 6x1mile repeats, 400m recovery. Holy crap that was hard.

Just booked a hotel for Grandma's. I was on the fence about whether to pay for a hotel or stay at my parents cabin but decided I'd have a better chance of a peaceful night sleep and less stress getting to the start line at the hotel.

Morning all! The disgusting weather is here, was 70* and 93% humidity this morning which felt like running through pea soup, the tanks are out for good now! I met up with some girls downtown and ran the bridges and then back home, 11 miles altogether. I'm going to try and take this one day at a time, if I think about a whole summer + of this kind of weather I'm apt to get disappointed before anything even happens. Deep breaths, lots of miles. Repeat.

Oh and I signed up for the first in a summer series of XC 5Ks up in Van Cortlandt Park (in the Bronx), the first is this Thursday and will likely be pretty damn ugly.

Lake Compounce! Right! Thanks, Maria.

I was awake at 4am this morning, and then couldn't fall back asleep, so I got out the door by 5 for a 5 miler before work. It's so peaceful that time of day.

Yay, Fidat! for the successful first ride with the clipless (that are actually clipped ???) pedals. After my sprint race this weekend, I'm switching over, too, now that I'll have more time for real biking.

Just received this big group shot after the RTB finish, this is both NYC teams that were formed from a big group of local runners sprinkled with a few out-of-towners and last minute replacements. Good times!

I'm not sure - I guess I would say it was about 10 seconds faster than 5k pace. The instructions were to run them at a pace that you could do all 6 at, so mile pace would not work. I just randomly decided on 7:20 as goal, with leeway to do it between 7:20 - 7:30. Failed on 2 of them. (7:18, 7:19, 7:19, 7:33, 7:46, 7:30).

Dear Tonya,

You will fall.

And you will know you're falling and there's nothing you can do to stop it. And it feels like it's happening in slow motion.

And it won't hurt nearly as much as you fear it will, so you will laugh it off. And it's a bit embarrassing to fall in front of people (other cyclists, cars, etc), so your pride will suffer the biggest injury of all.

And after you fall and get back up and into your pedals and start moving again, the blood running down your leg will dry and become crusty from the wind you're generating, and you'll finish the rest of your ride looking and feeling like a complete badass. Like, "It'll take way more than a little blood to stop ME!" kind of a badass.

And then a few rides later, you will fall again.

Sincerely,

I ran last night, 2.8 mi WITHOUT STOPPING OR WALKING! no idea how I pulled it off, exc 1) I was running along the Charles (ie, it was completely flat, exc for an overpass) and 2) my friend was speed walking next to me, so i was running very very slowly. I left her around 2.3 mi and ran another .5 on my own, much faster. Then I walked the couple blocks back to my car.

So happy to have been out there again. Now I just need to keep it up!!!!

Dr T, I was telling someone about a fall I had during a run, and how I felt so hard core running back with my knees bleeding all over the place. ;) I've been considering changing out my pedals but I'm too afraid since when I ride (which is infrequent) it's always on city streets in traffic. I'd end up getting myself killed.

I just did another easy 3 miles. I see on my log that this is the third day in a row that I've run between 3.0 and 3.2 miles. Two of those were 5k races, of course. The others were warmup (Friday) or recovery runs (yesterday and today). Today I'll try for a little farther, I guess.

Hey, I still seem to be having trouble with RunningAhead and Facebook. I don't see my runs on FB and I submit on RA. Can anyone see my runs on FB? I just entered one at about 6:20pm. Other people have had this problem, right? Is there a solution?

Bob - the last thing I see from you on FB is the David Bowie video. Someone recently posted that runningahead had made some sort of announcement/correction regarding the FB interface. Maybe there is a new application?
