monday - yuck

Didn't sleep well last night, probably because I had a 2-hr nap when I got home from the race. DD threw up this morning so she's home sick from school. DW is subbing at the school for a half day, so I'm work from home until she gets back.

Oh, and we have tornados in the forecast for later today...yeah!

Count me in on the group with storms too. The worst part was the storms fried our coffee maker so we had no coffee this morning. Not okay. ;)

Tim - hope DD feels better soon.

Count us in also. We have a nasty thunderstorm headed in sometime this afternoon. By tomorrow morning we are supposed to have nice weather for the rest of the week. Stay safe storm peoples.

Greetings, folks.

Kath, is it just me or does Gus have an unusually long face - even for a GS?

T-storms are expected tonight here too, though not until nighttime. That should hopefully mean no tornado warnings, at least.

Had a bit of a surprise yesterday. As I was only 2 miles into my run, my neighbors who were burning leaf piles on the side road called me over. (note that they've both been helping with the tree/debris project in the front yard.) One of my neighbors said "we've decided... we're going to come over and burn all that stuff that's left in your front yard.". Me: (Totally surprised and halfway thinking Oh #@)#$!). We are?! Him: We are!. Me: Now?! Him: Whenever!

Whenever turned out to be just as I finished up my run. Literally, I took off my headset and mp3 player, ran inside, let the dogs out in the back, changed clothes, grabbed a muscle milk, and it was off to fire 101 for me! We spent probably 5 hours out there. In some ways, the charred area of course looks worse, but a lot of the briers that I was having a bitch of a time with - they're gone or at least small enough that I can control them now. There are still 3 smaller piles of timber that need a second burning, but by 5pm last night, we were all ready to call it. So, I doused everything and we'll pick up again maybe next weekend.

My neighbors rock. :)

morning peeps.

I actually had a weekend of no obligations. I was still very busy, but I was just doing things for myself for a change. Among other things, I went to a few open houses yesterday. I LOVED this house:

Cute brick ranch

But it's on a busy street and it's a little isolated (not near the T, not near stuff.) On the other hand, it was built in 1942...and has had ONE OWNER! The place was immaculate. I'd need to do some upgrades in the kitchen, like put in a dishwasher, but the cabinets are beautiful and there's plenty of them.

FWIW...this is the stove that's currently in the kitchen:

this would need to be replaced. ;)

Sigh. I just wish it were somewhere else. Even one block in, in the neighborhood would be better.

Hi all! Just checking in with a wave-and-go for today. Kris and I went traveling around San Francisco yesterday (the Asian Art Museum - too much to see in one day) then over to Baker Beach to view the surf and sun-lovers (some in more clothing than others <ahem> and then some pizza in the Marina district.

Today we're going to venture to the capital of Sacramento to admire the huge pit they have out there (about a $23 billion deficit haha) and then hang around Berkeley and Oakland for some good eats, the last full day of our first memorable anniversary jaunt together.

Good days to you all!

speaking of dogs...

I bought a new brand of catlitter on the weekend. "World's Best Cat Litter" which is all natural and made of corn.

Um...yah. Penny probably ate 2 cups of the (clean) cat litter before I realized it. Needless to say, it is clearly not the best litter and has been replaced.

(Penny seems fine, just poopy. Because it doesn't have any clay in it, she seems to be passing it ok.)

Cat litter for supper? Eeek!

Evelyn had me up between 2 and 5 AM. But she woke up chipper and smiling, so I guess all is well. Except I had to take a nap in my office on my lunch break.

Missy, so glad to hear you had a nice break! And it sounds like Kris and Moon are having a great time, too!

Maureen, perhaps I shouldn't admit htis, but I'm still snickering about the corn-based (clean) cat litter find by Penny-girl. :)

Kath - I assume Gus got lots of lubbins after that photo, yes? Seems impossible to ignore that kind of here-I-am gaze and all....

Ha, Speaking of food, is it wrong that I was craving brussels spouts all.day.long. Fortunately I had some fresh ones at home to steam up tonight.

Oh, and HELP! We have 2 cardinals trying to nest in our garage. I opened the door tonight to take out some trash and one flew in here and scared the crap out of me. They must have come in this afternoon to get out of the insane wind. How do we get them out?! They were pretty aggressive and definitely flustered, but don't appear to be wanting to go anywhere. I don't want them abandoning eggs/chicks later, but I also don't want them going nuts on my kids or my cat. Any advice. Scared the crap out of me when it flew into the house!! So glad it is now out. I like birds, but not that close to me!!

Update: My husband is the bird whisperer. Just one of the cardinals was in the garage and it was completely flipped out when we were out there trying to coax it out. John put his arm up and sure enough, it flew onto his hand and he walked it out. Surreal. And I am so glad. The poor thing was scared and that all could have ended very badly one way or another.

OMG Mindi, I would have been dying!!! Birds soooooo freak me out. I still remember when one got into our house on the same night I was heading out with my uncle, aunt and cousins to see Lady and the Tramp. I was crying hysterically... equally b/c the bird was inside and b/c I thought someone might kill him inside. What a bit of torn emotions, too much for a 7 yr old to process.
