Morning all! Nice and early out here on the East coast. Eating some yogurt now and getting myself together to head out to NJ and get some running done. 22 miles or thereabouts for me & a VRAA teammate, so please send some good weather, good running vibes - won't cha?

Will check back later ...good runs to all! And good luck to Philly Tom @his 5K ...bring home the pie dude!

Oh! I certainly was! Kudos, Chickie!
His was the same, message from eBay. He went in and changed his password. Hi email account was compromised too. He had to change the password in that also. It's scary. When he comes back downstairs I'll ask him what he ended up doing exactly.
No, it can pretty boring a lot of time. But, if you're an outdoor/nature freak and don't care about weather conditions (hot or cold) or creep crawlies, it's an amazing job. I loved every minute of it but after 10 years living on the fringe of society I figured if I didn't get out of the biz I'd go insane from lack of normalcy or relationships. Honestly, I have no idea of the music, movies or world news that came from all those years (my 20's pretty much). I was so out of touch with society. But, the actual archaeology stuff was absolutely awesome! I've lived all over the USA which was very cool since before that I'd never traveled the country much but had been to and lived in Europe and Eastern Europe twice.

So, my careers have been: Archaeologist, Chef/Pastry Chef, Software Testing & Development, Stay-at-home mom
Thanks for the thoughts...things are better today- I think we are going to accept the offer (although it is 50k less than we paid for the house 15 months ago). Boo. We're still discussing it- the big thing will be if they can wait to close until the end of Sept...but according to our realtor they really want the house.
Frankie- we are moving to Aliso Viejo (in the OC...). Thanks Craney- I agree I in line for some good stuff.
Moe- ugh- sorry to hear.
Hey, all!

Ran a local 5 mile road race this morning with my twin sis. We ran faster than planned (I think our finish was 42:30ish) but it felt good! This race was one I did last year, and I think I improved my time by about 3 mins! I did hold back a little, too -- wasn't planning on running that fast and wanted to hang with my sis... Fun time.

Tried reading through the thread, but I keep getting interrupted by my little nephews... I'll try again later... congrats, get-wells and general good vibes to all! Sorry for the blanket wishes...
Good afternoon, folks. No news from me; just popping in to say hi...
Hello friends!

Thread business:

Maples: Congrats to you!

Great running to Tom, Moon, Maria, Korbels and EQ!!!! You all rock!

Roo: Sorry to hear about your toe.

Duck and Mrs. Duck: Happy 13th! DH and I celebrated 13 years in July.

{{{{{{{KJ}}}}}}}} Hang in there. This too shall pass. Thinking of you.

Theia: Sorry to hear about the tickets! It was a nice thought though.

Winter: Congrats to your son! I'm sure you are proud.

Hello and congrats to anybody I missed!

Me news:
The festival Friday was very fun and moving. Did some dancing and drinking after the flag raising ceremony. Voo said on Friday in response to my lack of running that I may be burned out and after thinking about that, I agree. I really pushed myself at the beginning of summer to get ready for the 7 miler we did on July 28th. That was a lot for me, I'm very proud of myself and of DH for doing as well as we did, but I think I just need a break right now. I'm going to TRY not to beat myself up about it. I'll just take Voo's advice and get back out there one step at a time. Thanks Voo! That helped more than you know.

Okay...DH is in a golf tourney today and I'm heading up to help at the bar and in the kitchen. We've had so much rain in the last couple of days, that some small towns north of us are completely flooded, house foundations literally sliding off the hills, people are stranded on the roof...our local fire department got called out to assist in rescuing people. Most of those guys were in the tourney today, so it's actually a slim crowd I think. Send some good thoughts to those people.

Later!

Ive never heard of the town but hey at least you are in SoCal, it would be a whole lot closer for me to meet up with you someday than Boston
Um, hello, 14 miles today. Ouchie. Sleepy. I think leading the marathon group was helpful in making me hold back because I haven't felt this sucky after a long run in quite a while.

Congratulations to all of you wonderful people that did wonderful things this weekend!
Running news: My long run got bumped from yesterday to today. Why you may ask? Well, I slept in a bit yesterday morning and then the plan WAS to drive DH's car to near the end of his long run and leave it there for him. Then I was going to run my 14 home. Well, I was about to head out the door when I went to grab the keys..hey where are the keys? almost an hour later...still no keys. So, he has a key to get into his vehicle...but I can't get it to him. I decided that my only shot was to find him on his run. I loaded up my little car with all of his after run gear and took off. Driving, driving, driving. I get almost to the end when I see his one friend walking up Summit. Not good. I drive a bit farther and see DH with some other guy. WHew..I was really worried that they would beat me to the end and be standing out in the now pouring rain and 55 degree temp. I flipped a u'ey (spelling?) and parked in the designated meeting spot. I honked as he ran passed and scared the crap out of him. He was a bit confused as to why I had my car but he asked me to go and pick up the walking friend and meet him and this guy down at the capital. So after all this, it is 1030 or so and I have to take the dog to a groomer appt at 1230. Not going to happen. I looked and the pouring rain and thought...eh...I'll run tomorrow.

So, to today. Short story - I did 14 in 2:17:45. My watch was absolutely bonkers. 4 of my miles were (according to it) near 13 and two were 7 and below. wha??? I am pretty sure that it shorted me at least 0.5 on the first part of my run but I have no idea what in total I ended up short. Anywho...I am tired and my calves hurt. blah Went out for breakfast and now I am cleaning the house while DH is at a baseball game.

Now to you peeps

Maria - kick ass run...I know you suggested a run while I am out there...but you will kick my ass as well. Just sayin'

Moon - rock on!! a 5 min PR with a monster hill 2 times in the run? Dang!

Korbel - shut up!! that is a great run in bad conditions. I shall bet you no more beers. I need that money for shoes

Theia - that sucks. UPS sucks as well.

Jess - do what you need to. We all need a break sometimes. we are here for you sister!

Crane - yeah um.... TMs and vertigo is not a great match. Honestly, I have a hard time staying on them without visual issues.

Maples - congrats on finishing the program!

I am missing people. Sorry - vacuuming the cat/dog hair of the couch beckons me now!

I just finished up slightly less than 3 with Penny. I had hoped it was 3, but it was apparently 2.8...assuming I remember which route I took in the cemetery and how much I can see on the hybrid version of mapmyrun.com. So it's either 2.8, 3 or more. Matters not...I was out for 45 mins and moving for 40 or so (Penny had to stop a couple of times and I made a pit stop myself). No walking at all. Legs felt pretty good, lungs were cooperating. I did take a couple of big hills, so good for me.
You go girlfriend!
Haven't read through the posts yet, just posting this quick. See that railing that's underwater? That's a railing as tall as I am and it's along the path I normally run on when at my Mom's house in Rochester. eeks!

Yikes BigG That's a lot of rain!

Well I got my long run in today. Legs definitely felt yesterday's ITT type effort. But It got the run in.

18.6 miles in 2:48:20.5. 9:03.0 per mile.
TM+vertigo= no way. I did about a 1/4 mile and was stupid dizzy.

So, I ran in the rain instead--I'm fine as long as my head is upright and I don't bend over. I did a repeat of yesterday for 5. I looked pretty damp when finished, but you know, a little rain won't kill you. Obviously, a lot of it will-- as evidenced by Jen's picture.

Diane--I thought silently to myself that your ID story was impressive. I just did not type it down.
Just got back from a good 4.02 miles. I really had to have the pep talk extraordinaire to get me out there, but I did it!!! Gotta love having my personal advisor in house

Much congrats to Maria, Maples, and EQ!

Also congrats to Duckie, 13 years is wonderful. We need to have a meet up on the other West Coast while you are in town for the OREGON game.

{{{{KJ}}}} I'm sorry things have been so tough. I hope selling the house relieves some of your stress.

Maureen - Thanks for sharing! Now I need to go change all my passwords!
Good afternoon!

I'm back from my camping trip where I did a whole lotta nothing. Well, I did run yesterday morning, but otherwise mostly sat around and either chatted w/ Mom and Shirley or read a book. I read 2 complete books this weekend, got sunburned on my knees in the process.

I was scheduled to run 9 miles yesterday, so since I wasn't going to really be able to plot out a route, I basically planned to run for 1:40-1:45 which was my expected finish time for that distance. I was able to do this in the campground itself as it was pretty spread out. The campground was on a bit of a ridge and I ran down to the beach early in the run. So coming back up was almost 0.5 mi up pretty steady uphill. That sucked. The rest of the run, even with rolling hills, wasn't too bad. Ran 1:39:50 without stopping, my longest non-stop run ever. Pretty pleased by that. It's also my longest run without refueling with sport beans or something.

So, anyway, I'm feeling more ready for The Crim next weekend than I was feeling a few weeks ago when I wasn't getting in any weekday runs. My goal for that race is 1:50.

Sounds like we had a lot of great races and runs this weekend. Congratulations to Korbels, Maria, Moonie, EQ, Maples, Moe, and anyone else I may have missed.

Crane- hope the dizzies go away!

KJ- I hope you can drop the balls very soon.

Maples- congrats on finally completing C25K!

heh. its also the best way to stay warm on a chair lift. beats the hell outta hot chocolate in the lodge (insert eyebrow wiggling here....)

speaking of things they don't teach you... i have on more than one occassion run from black bears too. ok. once it was black bears. another time it was a pile of bear mess. and if you don't think bear mess is worth running from, you've never stumbled upon a steaming pile of it

Kris did you have on jeans with holes in the knees? I went camping like that once and got just tanned little knees that i didn't think to sunscreen. oh yeah. that was hot....
OK is it 5 oclock yet? Im bored off my ass at work. Yesterday it was assholes and elbows all day, today Im having a hard time staying awake. I should be sitting down letting my creative talents flow out of the right side of my brain and out through my left hand but here I sit listening to songs from somebody who I have never heard of ( sounds good though ), reading people's blogs ( knowing that some of these people dont particuarly like me ) and in general just being goofy.

Big G wow that is some flowage there! Hopefully that stuff recedes soon.

Bard congrats on the non stop long run, great job! I burnt just my ankes years ago while tubing down a river so I can kinda relate to the burnt knees

phdatc Good on you on the 4 miler!
Running from a steaming pile of it is probably a good idea. If the pile is steaming, the bear is probably not far away!
