Good luck to Solar at her tri tomorrow. Good luck to all else who are racing.

I'm awake, blood sugar is in good shape, and I'm feeling nervous about what will be my longest run yet, about 9.2 miles I've got planned out. Did any of you ever feel a bit jittery when escalating to a distance you had never done before? It also seems weird to think that this run is the stepping stone to get me to the 10 mile run next weekend.

But then, there was a time when 5K seemed impossibly far away almost.

Good morning, Scratch. Yeah, I was nervous every time I tried a new distance. In retrospect it seems a little silly. Like I did 12 miles one week, but was afraid of trying 13 the next. Not as nervous as I was at my first race, however. Heck, my first race of any distance: first 5k, first 5 mile, first marathon, etc. I was always afraid that I would be so slow and make a fool of myself.

So I think nerves are natural. But if you've trained properly (and I know you have), then you'll be alright...

Yup, good luck to all the racers. I just ate a little breakfast and I'll be heading out for my 18-20 miles soon. Hopefully I can get my dad on the phone before I go out. (Fort hose who missed it last night, my dad is back in the hospital. He now has a urinary tract infection, unrelated to the gall bladder problems he had a few weeks ago. This isn't too seriously, supposedly, but I'm sure it's not pleasant for him anyway).

I guess that's about all for now. Just a few more hours until another afternoon of college football kicks off. Woohoo!!

Good Morning Bob and Matt. Good luck on those long runs. Bob, thinking good thoughts for your dad.

Bob - re: the Eugene Marathon, I talked with DW last night and she gave me the go ahead to do it. I'd come out solo though, which might be nice for a change. So now we all just have to decide on a race!

Had a lovely eat out fest last night with the family. Uno's Pizza followed by fresh ice cream at the local farm/creamery. The cows were out and the weather was perfect. We did notice how early it's starting to get dark, 7:20 or so. That brought a somewhat depressing end to the night. Then we all settled on the sofa to watch a movie (which we didn't finish because it was too late and the kids had to get to bed.)

I'm up early for DD's first soccer game of the season. Yes I'm being a very bad Jew today by going to her game instead of going to services. Today is Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the year for Jews.) But since I figure I'm going to hell already it can't hurt all that much. We're off to my mother's for the big family break the fast dinner tonight. Oh yeah, Jews fast all day today. That I will do in an attempt to at least try to make up for going to soccer.

No run for me today. I purposely planned today as my weekly rest day since I knew I wouldn't be eating. Tomorrow I'm running 16 with my new neighborhood training buddy.

Also good luck to Mary and Solar who I know are also racing this weekend. Not sure if there's anyone else.

Oh yeah, for sure....My first 8 mile run totally freaked me out. So did 5. Once I get to past my previous furtherest distance I start thinking, "ha. this is the furthest I've ever ran"
Good luck!!!
But you're being a great dad...surely that cancels things out a bit, right?

Bobman hope your pop is better soon! he's got grandpa duties soon!

I am exhausted. Long week followed by a long evening has tuckered me out. Have a ton of work to do on Chapter 4 (but I've revised 1-3). Want to do some cleaning and take Hank for a long walk somewhere nice.

Good luck Solar! I can't find a fingers crossed smiley...just a flipping the bird one and I don't want to send you that one!

Glad to hear about Shaggy girl!!

30's mountain women...have a wonderful time!

hey all,

fly by post - just back from 10.1 mile run
Gotta shower and get to the soccer fields.

Good runs to all,
Good morning, it's raining here. LL, isn't it raining in your neck of the woods, too? If not, lucky you. Oh, and my friend invites me to break fast every year. Enjoy all the yummy food!

Busy day today ... maybe go to an Indian Food Festival (don't know how I can pass that up), kiddie birthday party followed by festivities at their house, pick up DH from airport. All this in the rain, ugh!

Good luck Mary, solar ... I'll be thinking about you guys.
I did 9.5 because I was a wimp. The route that had me doing 9.2 included a couple of extra uphills and I opted for another direction which while longer was also flatter.

Legs were pretty tired by the end, but overall it felt good. I'm also a bit in a state of disbelief. Did I really just run that far?
Morning, friends--

Just got back from a very painful 3.84 miles (!). 49:26. Scratch--every Friday (or Saturday if I'm lazy) is a new "longest distance" since I'm increasing my time every week. I'm certainly not in leauge with you guys; this week's total (9.3 miles) is shorter than some of your mid-week runs. At any rate, I love the challenge of it; that's what keeps me coming back for more. Today was very painful however due to the 4 glasses of wine and too much food that I consumed last night. I thought I was going to die coming up the big hill on my run. In fact, I was barely running. Anyhow, it's done and I'm pleased with myself. After breakfast and shower I'm going to walk about 2 miles to school, finish my job applications and walk back home. Dinner with a friend tonight and then a birthday party.

Good luck to all the weekend racers! You'll do us proud.
Nice job Scratch! That's how I felt last week when Heather and I ran 8mi, disbelief.
Prae, you've been adding some great mileage lately! Awesome! Next week you'll be at 4mi and will be completely amazed by it.
Good Morning...

Solar, good luck tomorrow! You'll do great.
boB, healing vibes to your dad. And glad Maggie is okay...
Scratch, nice work on the long run today!
Prae, way to hang in there this morning...

I got nothing, other than a random observation: Voodoo is one hell of a guitar playin', singin' maniac. Who knew??? Actually, the lead singer of the band that was at the bar I met my friend at last night looked like a slightly smaller, scaled-down version of Voo. I laughed every time I looked up at the stage...it was funny.

I guess that's it. I have been a slug the last 2 days. Ugh...but my legs finally feel back to normal. Just in time to tear them up again. Hah!

I'll check back later. Hope the 30's wimmins are having fun! Where are they, again?

Later taters.

Morning 30's.

Scratch - Heck, I still get nervous any time I think about doing a 20 and I've done that distance many times. I think it's just natural.

Not much going on today folks. Just a few little things I need to do today, like laundry and put a new license plate holder on my car.

Have a good day.

*EDIT* - To those here of the Jewish faith: Happy Yom Kippur.

Oh, and mandaroo I saw your post in my Equinox Marathon thread. I kind of laughed at it. Wait till you see what I sent you. You'll understand why I laughed so hard.
Hey all...yay to those first-time long run distances today! I'm out for 8 myself, which I haven't done in a very long while. And I'm still all antsy about getting out and doing it...which will be any time now...

I might swing by a Polish fest this afternoon for some pierogies and tasty treats, this evening I'm all by myself again...but I'm heading down to NYC with my father and bros for a Yankee game early tomorrow morning. Should be fun! It's a 'last hurrah' pre-wedding family thingy we're doing for my brother. In our family, going to baseball games together has been the status quo since I was younger.

Bob - hope this latest trouble with your dad resloves itself quickly.

Mandy - if you'd like to take Hank on a really, really long walk and get some cleaning done - feel free to swing by! I'm not planning to do any cleaning today, despite the state of this place.

All right, I'm off to run...wish me luck!

um. have i told you patience is NOT a virtue i have??? now that i think about it...i'm hard pressed to list my virtues. No lie, I'm thinking about making Humpy's my first marathon. Its at a good time of year for school marme-y types like me (plus, its cool but not cold--usually) and after i finish this stoopid Pile it Higher and Deeper degree, i think I need a reward. Plus, its not up any mountains. I got places to stay hook ups in A-town to skip the 'rape the tourist' hotel prices.... I'm just sayin' buddy....

Scratch Awesome job!!!! I had no doubt. I am really proud of your diligence, patience and progress this year. Um. Not that I have a damn thing to do with it... but still. Also, you said, "googly moogly" heh.

Noni Put some beer in the cooler. Hank and I will be there shortly!!

Good morning gang!

Been raining off and on here in the VotS, hopefully they wont cancel DS's first Itty Bitty session.

My FIL was released from the hospital yesterday. Thats a good thing but then before he was released his wife ( my wife's step mom ) was admitted for internal bleeding. Here my FIL was thinking he was getting to go home, now he has to stay and visit with his wife.

Thursday my wife finally went back to the podiatrist becuase her PF was bothering her again really bad. She came home with a soft cast thing and on crutches. Dr. thinks its either the PF has gotten really bad or she has a torn muscle in her foot. SHe goes for an MRI on Tuesday. By the sounds of it, either way, she'll be going under the knife shortly.

The hits keep coming, woo hoo

Scratch great job on the new distance. I always got nervous prior to that run were I was going longer than I had previously had. Just wait, if and when you decide to train and run a marathon, youll really be thinking to yourself, wow 14,16,18 20 miles today?

Good luck to all the racers this weekend. I may joining the racing fun next weekend for the first time since June. We shall see how it goes this week.

Back from DD's game. It was raining earlier. Kind of a light drizzle during the game but nothing bad.

Oh I love me some bagels and whitefish.

Congrats to Matt on the long run.

Frankie - sorry about the family health issues. Hope things improve for everyone.
Bob, good luck. I'm going out for 18/20 today also - not sure how I'm going to hold up. RTB was tiring this past w/e and I last ran 16 about 4 weeks ago.
Scratch - that's a nice new distance conquered...double digits next weekend. I guess I get nervous before tackling big distances, like today, and I procrastinate pretty seriously.
{{Frankie}} - hang in there man. i'll send some more healing vibes while i'm out grinding the miles today.
Prae - the tough runs make the rest that much sweeter. nice job.

A few folks were looking for my RTB write up from last weekend - I posted it yesterday in an existing RTB thread in TFL - http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11077
It's long - sorry 'bout that.

Go get 'em solar. McT good luck - another tri?
Everytime I have to go a new distance it freaks me out. But I keep doing it. Good luck! and remember if this popsicle butt can do it, you can too.

Good Morning.

Went for 4.5 miles east. Leg pain on the right side. Still shoe issues I think. Long run tomorrow. 12. Yikes! The Half that i'm doing in 15 days has a major hill in it. Don't ask me elevation. I don't know. Ottawa is a Valley and I live at the top of it. I usually run up to the top of the valley at the end of my long run. And it's a killer. But this Half starts at the bottom of the valley and climbs up to the top in the first 2-3 miles. I'm so worried that I'm going to blow out in those first 2-3 miles because of the hill and then crash and burn during the rest of it. I do the hill all the time, just I do it at the end of my runs in the last 2-3 miles. Do you think it will affect me? Or do you think that it is a better scenario to get that hilll over and done with. Should i go run the course tomorrow for my long run and see or do you think that will spoil the surprise? Help....

Good luck Solar! Tri your best!

ok for now that's all i've got
