I can't remember the last time I got to start the thread!

I'm up at 5 AM waiting for my neighborhood running partner to pick me up. We're heading to a new trail (new for us) and Valley Forge Park where we're going to run 18 miles.

Then it's back home for a quick change. Today is DD1's 7th Birthday party. Her birthday was a few weeks ago but the party is today.

Then I'm playing golf with my father.

Pretty good Yankees/Indians game last night. Fun stuff to watch if you don't care which team wins.

Good luck to anyone racing today!

Hey Larry. Enjoy the weather for golfing. It's a wee bit warm for the running part of things. The Indians and Yankees game last night was one of the best I've ever watched. The bugs were amazing too.

Here's an interesting British documentary about a guy taking up running:

http://www.lime.com/tv/fat_man_runni...at_man_running
I am too old to be rolling in at 4:15 in the morning. Don't even ask me why I'm awake now...
Hi! Even though the Indians won, not exactly a chamber of commerce moment there for Cleveland - what was up with those bugs? And teh TBS announcers are aweful.
ESPN.com has been going crazy with the puns from the bug game. "Bugging Out", "Insecti-slide"... ouch.

Important thing is that the Sox are up 2-0 and the Yanks are down 2-0. Of course, it takes 3 to win. The Yanks have been down 2-0 before, so they can still come back. I'm not so sure about the Angels. We'll see.

Wow, all four series are 2-0 right now. Might not be the level of excitement that TBS had in mind when they signed up to air the LDSs...

Anyway, I'm about the head out for 18-20 miles. It's warm, but foggy. At least that means the sun isn't too strong (yet) and I won't have that to whine about...

Have a great day, folks...
Hi Gang! Another very busy week for me so I've been out of touch a bit...I am hoping next week things will finally slow. And, I woke up this a.m. with a sore throat. RATS. DF has been sick all week.

I did want to say CONGRATS to Beaker and MrBeaker and SparkyBeaker.

Also, it's Marathon Weekend in the TC; although I am not running, we certainly have a few folks that are, including Pacer and Korbeland lots of others not part of our little club. Sage and I are headed "to the hill" for moral support--it should be fun, we are going to hang out--I sure hope the weather holds and cools a bit--today it is supposed to be eighty freakin' 2 .

I wanted to see some of our runners beforehand, but I've promised a "personal day" to DF. We start by babysitting someone else's kids.

Heh. Not exactly what we were planning, but I don't mind for a few hours.

I know Baggs and Brandy are also putting in a showing in Milwaukee and someone has her first marathon next weekend. Not to mention any names, Sage.

Okay, that's what I know. What do you know?

Kick that 18-20 in the proverbial arse, Bob!

Oh. And Go Badgers the longest undefeated streak in the nation, thank you.

Heidi ho Thirty-o's!

Well, the surprise 50th bday was a blast last night! He did NOT see it coming and some old friends who are in a band played an entire set last night (haven't heard them in years!) Saw lots of people I haven't seen in many years. As I was getting ready, it felt like I was getting ready to go back in time! Kinda freaky! Of course, somehow I got corned by this one guy and I was trying to be polite but he wouldn't shut up! I tried several times to shake him, but no go! I kind of missed some of the music set because of his babbling. That sounds mean I know, but still.... and it's not what you might think. He's a happily married man. Just doesn't know when to shut up. I had to tell him I wanted to listen to one of the songs at one point (he was mid sentence). After it was over, he started back where he'd left off. D'oh! I didn't even know him before last night, so it's not like we were best friends catching up.

Anyway, this is my sister's big weekend- she's joining us in the 30's club tomorrow! Tonight is the friends going out celebration. Tomorrow is the family party. I realized that since tonight I'd like to be able to drink, I'm gonna do my LR today and do the shorter (6 mi) I had planned tomorrow. Going for 11 today. :biting nails:

Good luck to the racers and long runners this weekend! For some reason, that old chant "Who rocks the house? The thirties rock the house!" is going through my head!!

Moon glad you like the greek yogurt! It's addictive. Be careful. And it's good with not only honey, but also fresh fruit! I love blackberries or raspberries!! (Trader Joes sells bags of frozen ones that are easy to thaw and then mix in the yogurt/honey! )

Ok, gonna finish my coffee and get on the road! At least it's overcast (no blaring sun) but it's humid again. Still getting into the mid 80's this week. Booooooo!

Ciao. (and Mandy, I still miss the gummi worms quote! I think it was a PSA, you know. Helping folks out! We can make it political somehow!! )

Hi gang! And good morning to you.
I wanted to stay in bed but my little one came in and wanted us to get up. So, I'm still milking my coffee and need to get some stuff done around the house before meeting up with Heather and fam at the Harvest Fest.

Tim, I love the tie dye your son is wearing in that pic!

EQ, congrats on the 2000 mi!!

Ciao for now!
heh.

There seems to be some confusion about this pic. I guess writing 'Jack' under his pic wasn't obvious enough?

So here is a side-by-side of my piglet back then and last winter modeling his cammo fleece. There a 99-ish lb difference. heh.

UG!

Humid, humid run this morning. Y.u.c.k.

Moon or Beth or Thea I missed the conversation about yogurt. What makes it Greek? I make my own yogurt and flavor it dish by dish, depending on what I feel like. Sometimes I do fruit & honey, sometimes I add dill weed and chives and salt and dip carrots, sometimes granola... just depends.

I gotta run some erranda and then get up on the scaffolding. What was that QOD about rewarding yourself? Spending a few hours up on the scaffolding today (and the ladder - have to do the section above the porch stairs, and the scaffolding is wide enough to span them) definitely earns me a reward, although I haven't decided what it will be yet. Something good, because this is a sucky job.
Morning Gang - Happy Saturday.

Today is a 3 miler on the TM and then shopping for costume stuff (Thanks to Maureen's help, we're goin' Beer Wench/St. Pauli Girl for me. B's goin' as The Dude. )

Tonight's Gourmet Club and we're in charge of bringing champagne. I love these people.

Tim - your son is adorable!!! I love him with the headphones. How old is he?

Katholeenie - I'm lovin' Jack's eyebrow.

Good luck and speedy vibes to all of our racers today and tomorrow!!! I can't wait to read reports!

Crane - you is good people.

Ug, my sympathies. At least he was married and not one of those hopeful ones that can't take a hint.

(That sounds kind of bitchy, huh? I don't mean it to... But when you're just not into someone and they don't catch on when you try to nicely put them off.....UG.)

I suck at words.

He's the only puppy out of all their litters they've had that had an eyebrow spot. The breeder referred to him as Groucho when they were talking about the puppies.

My piglet is getting a bath today. He is a major stinkpot. Sssshhh! He doesn't know it's coming though.
Good morning 30s.

First off I want to thank you all for the kind words you said both here and in yesterday's thread about the 2,000 mile plateau. GatorBob you said yesterday that you hope to make it that level one day. Keep working at it my friend, you can do it!

Not much going on today. I have to cut the lawn, and I have to run the leaf blower over the yard.

Pfitz's plan is calling for a 5m recovery run with strides today. However, as some of you might remember my quads have been sore since Tuesday. I'm thinking I might bag the run today. If I end up doing it, there'll be no strides, just the recovery pace.

I might also soak in a hot Epsom Salt bath to try to make the legs feel better.

Also, tonight, my UAF Nanooks open their hockey season! Okay, so it's only an exhibition game against the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology...but College Hockey is BACK!!!

Now if it didn't feel like August here.

llgreenberg - Enjoy the golf game.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day!

VICTORY IS MINE!

I successfully finished OHR this morning -- 4.69 miles in 1:00:13. I would have run accross the street for the extra 0.01, but I didn't have the light. Ah, well. Also, if I had anything in my stomach, I would have lost it at that intersection because I sprinted (as much as I could) for the last .1 and I was done. My goal was to run 4.5, so I did that. If Philly isn't hilly (hee hee), I may be able to finish the 8k under an hour. I'm not going to hold my breath on that, but I think that's my goal. I just need to find an extra 0.2 which I think is totally doable. I still don't know what I'm running on Monday, but I feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment, so I'll worry about Monday on Monday.

For the billionth time, I want to thank you guys for being such inspirations. As I was running and hurting about half way through, I was telling myself that I wanted to have a good report this morning, so I had to finish. It really helped me through, especially my own version of Heartbreak Hill which I hate but somehow seemed a little easier today.

Go get 'em, racers, and I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

PS I was wrong about which Forerunner I own -- I have the 201, not the 205. It's the 201 that is a little bulky on the wrist. The 205 is much smaller. Sorry for the brain fart.

18 miles done. Nice run on a great new trail starting at Valley Forge Park, called the Perkiomine Trial. Kept the pace nice and consistent at high 8s. Finished with a 7:30 last mile just for kicks.

Time for a shower and then off to golf.

Congrats on finishing the OHR praecipua.
WOOHOOO!!!! Way to go Prae!!!!!!
Congratulations Prae and EQ for your big milestones! Prae, I totally believe you can make 8K in under an hour. I mean, your first time going a full hour, and you were only 0.3 away from 5 miles. I've heard Philly is pretty flat, and you will have all the excitement and adrenaline going in your favor.

I ran about 7 miles this a.m. Forgot my watch, so just ran by how I felt. Didn't push too fast because it was hot and muggy here too. My legs are just happy that I ran in new shoes today. I've heard that it's also pretty warm up in TC and Chicago, I feel bad for anyone running those races.

Litch- On Thursday, I listened to the game on the radio because I couldn't stand the TBS announcers. Unfortunately that wasn't an option last night. My local sports radio station had other stuff on.
Hey all!

Congrates EQ!! you are mighty impressive!

I don't have time to catch up from last evening, but wanted to drop in. I finished my 8.5, 5 miles were running and 3.5 were walking. The weather went from sunny to pouring rain back to sunny again! I got drenched, oh well it felt great! I am worried about my Garmin, will the water damage it?

Time to shower!
Congrats Prae - Keep up the hard work! I know at times it's tough, but believe me, when you achieve your goals through hard work, it feels SO good!
