Morning folks,

Up to get in 4 miles since I flaked yesterday on going to the gym. (Seriously, it's hard to convince yourself to spend 2-3 hours of your 4 evening hours going!) I can't wait till it's cool enough to just run outside when I get home. It's already 80* here this morning. At 6am. It's supposed to be 101* again. I feel so lazy in this weather!

Anyway, gonna go for 4 miles. Might join a friend at Body Pump tonight. Only problem is the class is at 7. Which means I'm home at 8:30. We'll see how I feel later!

Wanna congratulate Kini on her great run last night! 3.1 is yours!!

Maria your run sounds great too! I wish I could go run through NYC! I am seriously going to have to make some off season plans to come up there.

Ok, gotta eat my oatmeal and get on my shoes to go!

Happy Humpalump Day!

Two-a-day soccer practices that is!

Morning people!

Didn't have time to catch up on the entire thread yesterday - busy day at work, plus just an overall shitty day - but things are mucho better now.

Winter - in regards to what I meant by injuries: in the great white north what I do for a living would be called an athletic therapist (athletic trainer here in the US of A) and basically what I do is this: I work in college athletics, I am the first line of health care as it relates to our athletes. I'm at practices/games. I'm there to help prevent injuries (corrective exercise programs, etc), recognize injuries when the do happen - try to figure out what is going on or what exactly the injury is and what to do next, does this need to be seen by our team doc, is this something serious that they need to be pulled from practice/game or can we do something to get them back into the practice/game, treat those injuries - again rehab exercises, use of cool machine, etc. I'm the guy who runs out on the ice when one of the Sens goes down. So I'm like a vulture, I sit at practice waiting for something bad to happen.

Kathleen - yes, practices for all sports can be mind-numbing. Especially if you're a fair skinned person slathered in 50 spf sunscreen at a soccer field 5 hours a day with no shade.

I've had two great runs Mon/Tues and my running schedule (and real life schedule) gets a whole bunch easier as classes start Monday.

Litch - LOVE the new avatar. My favorite comic strip.

Back later to skim (or hopefully read) and see what the QOD might be.

Good morning!

Somehow I was actually motivated enough to get out of bed early today. Well, earlier than my normal "$hit, I gotta hurry" time that is.

Unfortunately, I got nuttin' really to say. Speed workout is tonight, supposed to be hot (12x400 is the plan apparently) so I may run on campus indoors instead.

laters...

Did not run this morning, even though I had 6 on the sched. Feel exhausted. I work up, and had plenty of time to do it, but I bagged it. Drove to my gym, and sat in the car debating whether I would run, and ended up just going in to the gym to shower\shave. I have been going back and forth as to whether this is me being lazy, or if I just needed the day off.

Excuses for a day off column - my LR on Sat was much longer than I had planned, longer than I had ever run before. Maybe that caught up with me. Last week was the most miles I ever had in a week too. I have already run more miles in August than I had in July. Only got about 5 hours of sleep the past two nights.

Reasons I should have done it - I was already up anyway, so I had already lost the opportunity to get some extra zzz's. It was an easy run day, so why bag it. I know some other slow poke is out there running, and I will be racing against them at some point.

Sorry for the whine-fest.

Kini – congrats on getting your mojo back.

Maria – so you are a west side snob, heh? Don't like running past the crack vials in East River Park, along alphabet city, and past the power plant on 15th street??

My wife (an OT) went to college with the trainer for the Mighty Ducks. His best\worst career moment was coming out on the ice in the 2003 during the Stanley Cup finals after Paul Kariya was knocked unconcious (sp?) by Scott Stevens.

Thanks - I think everyone needs to channel their inner Satchel on occasion.

Whoa - I kicked my own ass today! 5 sets of 5 min hard (~5:40/mile pace) with 3 min recovey. I didn't quite hit the times I wanted - I was probably closer to 5:45-5:50, but I'll take it. 11 miles total, the last 2 cooldown miles I was staggering around like the town drunk! I can't wait to get back on th schedule where I can spread my 3 key workouts over 7 days instead of 5, ut this is Sacrificial Weekend (one day off, one day not more than 40 minutes of running - for The Family!)

Hope eveyone has a good day - I'll check in from time to time.

PTom - I did see that info on the Pittsburgh Marathon the other day. I'll probably give them my unsolicited advice on what I would do differently (for one thing - not hold it the same day as the Pig!) I ran Pitt in '95 and '96 before they had the finish in Heinz Field so I would strongly consider it if they revive that thang.

Hey kids!

Not much to say and hardly any time to say it! Been getting back on that workout horse so that is good news! Actually got a very nice, relaxing run in Sat morning and it was just what I needed to remotivate me. But life has been in the way! Work is insane!!! Beyond insane! Still going to PT, had a re-eval last night, we are giving it a few more weeks before I need to explore other options, my pops had surgery Mon and was supposed to be home yesterday but they wouldn't spring him. And the list goes on and on!!

That's all I got, haven't been able to catch up with you folks at all but I will try to peek in later today! Good runs to all and healing vibes for anyone who needs them!

Good morning everyone.

Up before dawn again, this time to get some intervals in. 4 x 1000m in 4:26. Ugh.

I too love Get Fuzzy, Tim and kp. Lately this webcomic has been my favorite though. Nerd humor, but well....nerd here.

Good Morning Beth, Kini, & PC!

Don't beat yourself up, Tim. If you actually got all the way to the gym and still couldn't face a run then you needed a break whether it be mental or physical.

Hi Lori, hope your {{{dad}}} is sprung loose today!

Things are nice and boring here. I have 2.5 weeks til vacation and I can't wait! We're heading to Bluffton, SC to visit my inlaws. We'll be visiting Hilton Head, Savannah and have to make a trip to Charleston for my MIL's dr. I've never been to any of these places so I am totally psyched, I have always wanted to go to Savannah, especially after seeing Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil.

Made Theia's peanut butter cup brownies the night before last and now I hate her because I can't stop eating them! Gonna need a lot of miles to burn off all those calories!

It is absolutely beautiful right now. Wish I could have gotten out for a run this morning but I couldn't. If its like this tomorrow morning I am definately getting out there before work.

I think I'm going to have to bag my gym workout today. My back hurts like a muther, so I'm going to give it a rest today.

Dankinia: We knew you could do it! Congratulations!!

Litchfield: It sounds to me like a little rest is just what you need after hitting two major milestones. Way to go!

Gotta run, we're going out for breakfast today. A rarity.

Good morning.

Hey Litch, I was lazy channeling Baggs this morning and snoozed in til 6. Of course, I had planned on it that way, but I don't think you should beat yourself up over skipping out on the run this morning. Let's see, you ran your most mileage with your longest long run last week when the heat and humidity was beast-like and you're surprised that you're feeling some fatigue? Remember, just as important as the exercise is getting the rest and recovery from all the stress the exercise puts on your body. So don't think of today as doing nothing, you're actually taking a rest workout that you need.

Anyhow, I've found a 10K race that I'm going to do September 8th, as it's close enough to me. I've been searching out schedules hoping to find a 10K in October, but there's been nothing close enough to where I live. But as I've thought about it, even though the 8th of Sept is a bit earlier than I would have liked to do a 10K for the first time, this will fit in nicely with the 5K I plan on doing on the 15th as a way to check on how my fitness is progressing. Plus, presuming I can run both those races about full out, I'll finally have 2 different race distance times I can use to gauge how much my pace will degrade from a shorter distance, 5K, to a longer distance, 10K. That'll help me in monitoring what half-marathon pace I might try for in November.

Kini, good job on going farther than you ever have before. That's always a good feeling.

Love that movie!!!! John Berendt was in town earlier this year (he grew up here) for our art museum's annual flower festival. There was a screening of the movie and book reading (and signing). Sorry that I missed it.

Another hometown favorite I like (well, MI will always be my real hometown) is Elmore Leonard. While he was not born in Detroit his family did settle there when he was young.

Hey hey hey-
Back from a natural red #4 3 miles with Hankster (who now has Odin' rips...).
Good stuff. Got a couple on tap for tomorrow which will have to be EARLY since I have new teacher orientation tomorrow.

I am out of yogurt, so nothing there to report...

Lori good for you for getting back in the saddle. Good vibes to your daddy.

Heather That's a GREAT movie...

Tim I dunno what to tell ya, pal. Sometimes you need the rest. When I am whipped like that, if i get enough juice together to go to the gym, I tell myself 15 easy (even like on the eliptical or bike) and then I can sit in the sauna. Usually makes me just do it. My problem is when the alarm goes off and I'm like, "oh hell..." and don't get up. Even if you have been lazy, you got one coming with the miles you been putting in.

KP i am a fan of the 50 sunscreen too (but im not so fair as much as don't want my face to look like a wrinkled up dogs butt....) I particularly like the spray on stuff this summer because putting it on isn't a whole ordeal.

Ok. Got to get to the dentist and I'm hunnnnnnnngry.

Great days all!

So, I went to the gym last night and did upper body, a little core, and some leg stuff. Then I did my mini-brick workout. 20 minutes on the bike (6.1 miles) and then 3 miles on the treadmill in 28. Ouch.

Slept in this morning. I'll do 5 recovery after work.

Hiya 30s!

I didn't leave work as early as I'd hoped. I thought I might get in a little off-sched run when I got home, even told a fellow 30 that I was going...but I got distracted by some costume work that needed to get done and I didn't go. It's ok...it isn't like I skipped a run. I'm probably not going tonight, since I have to drop the car off tonight to get a loaner, then head over the theatre to meet the lead so we can make his leg cast (using my new art fav product, Rigid Wrap). And try to get in supper at some point. I also came into work early again today. I was in very early, having stopped to get some fruit and coffee on my way...only to realize when I got to my desk that I'd left my iced coffee at the shop. I grabbed my keys and rushed back over to get it. So I was still on time, but not really early.

Theia, I tried the towel exercise. It's not easy! I'm not sure I'm doing it right.

Litch, I think if you got there and still couldn't face it, you really needed the day off.

Get Fuzzy: I have 4 GF cartoons at my desk! I love GF.

Kerik, I match your nerd humor and raise you with Librarian humor:

Great runs everyone! Esp Kini and Maria!

Mandy, does Hank dog trot, like Penny does...as if they are just walking when we're running?

I need to get ready for a conf call I'm running today...first time I've had to do this. I've never chaired anything before. I don't like it so far.
