Yesterday there was a lot of talk about Fantasy sports, and I had brought up the idea of Fantasy Philly Kick Runners. And there seemed to be some minor interest. Here's what I propose...

Step1: Everybody who's running in one of the events in Philly (and wants to participate) will state their goal time for Philly, along with some kind of explanation as to why they predict that time for themselves. In other words, you could say "I'm shooting for a 2:00 HM. My current PR is 2:10, but I'm confident that I can beat that by 10 minutes because I've been training harder, blah blah blah". This part is only valid for the people who are running in Philly, of course.

Step2: Everybody reads thru all the predictions and drafts a "team" of 3 Philly runners. This part is available to anybody, whether you are in Philly or not. You choose one person running the Full Marathon, one running the Half, and one running the 8k. I'd suggest that you can't choose yourself, to gaurantee that you don't sandbag at the end to nail your exact time. Your goal is to choose people based on how close you think they will come to their own prediction. If somebody predicts a 2:00:00 HM for themselves, but they end up with a 1:55:00, then their time is 5 minutes. Same thing if they ran 2:05:00. You add up the results for the 3 people on your team, and the player whose "team" came closest to the predictions wins.

Now, there are a couple more details needed to be worked out. First, how would we conduct our draft? Frankly, I think the easiest thing would just be for everybody to choose whoever they want. With 3 runners per team, we'd run out of runners quite quickly if only allowed a runner to be one team. If someone has a better idea, please speak up.

Next, I think it's easier to come close to a predicted time for a shorter race than for a longer one. In other words, being off by one minute in a Full is a lot harder than being off by one minute in an 8k. So should we say that your team's overall time would be: your marathoner's offset, plus twice your HMer's offset, plus 5x your 8ker's offset? I hope you guys understand what I'm asking...

Well, I've spent enough time thinking about this for now. If enough people have interest, we can start a new thread in the 30s Club to continue the topic...

As for me, I got in a nice east 3 miles last night. I've got a long slow hill run planned for tonight. I hope the weather doesn't suck too much.
Have a great day, folks. Oh by the way, today's the due date, but still no baby...
