Wow - I am starting the thread. Must be on call and getting stoopid phone calls at stoopid hours.

In happier news, it looks like I will be able to come to philly. Gonna sign up for the 8K - with my back my running has droppped off a lot, and although I am building back up, I do not want to push it to get ready for a HM. Still need to determine logistics as far as where to stay and such.

Off to pack up and go to the gym.

Holy cow, You started the thread before I even went to bed.

Philly sounds like it's gearing up to a be a hell of a party. I'm thinking of doing it next year, I'd really like to meet you all in person.

I just got back from a 2.5 mile recovery run, about 2500M deathly swim set and water polo scrimmage. Ice is nice.

Good morning.

My day's off to an interesting start. Got up at 4:15 AM like I planned so I could jaunt off to the nearby high school track and do a tempo run. I wasn't all that pleased to see the temp was 70 degrees. But oh well.

Then I get to the track and the gate for the chainlink fence is closed with a chain and lock to keep it closed. Damn it. What the hell? I'm hoping it's only a temporary thing because of a community fair thing being held on the school ground Thursday through Sunday of this week. On the other side of the chainlink fence I could see some stuff so maybe they're keeping it locked because of that. I don't know. I wasn't exactly happy realizing that my morning workout just got screwed.

Won't be tempo running today. I'll go the park this afternoon after work and just run some easy paced miles because it's going to be hot again today. Feck this weather. Hopefully that cool front goes through and I'll put together a tempo run Thursday afternoon.

I realize that I'm also missing that in the summer, while it may get hot, at least there was lots of sunlight too. Now it's hot and not even daylight for a full 12 hours.

Not the way I wanted this running week to start. I want to do around 26 miles. The first 5.5 to 6 of them are going to be slow and sticky this afternoon.

Good morning, everyone. First of all, no baby yet. Does that eliminate anybody already?

I asked this yesterday but didn't see an answer: How do we determine the winner? Is it whoever comes closest to the time of birth, plus or minus? Or do we go by Price Is Right rules, which means closest without going over?

Not all news is good from here, however. My dad had a doctor appointment yesterday, and his enlarged prostate has not been responding to the medication. So he will be needing surgery soon to take care of it, and he'll likely have that surgery next week. Supposedly it's not terribly dangerous surgery, so his life doesn't appear to be in danger, or anything like that. But it does mean that he'll miss the birth of his first grandchild. And he won't get to meet her for a few weeks. I don't know when he's going to be able to travel, and I'm not sure when the baby would be able to travel to CT to go meet him. Hmmm.

Anyway, yesterday's run wasn't terrific because it was so darn hot. But I won't whine about it, because those who raced on Sunday faced worse conditions. I did manage 8 miles, and I'll call that good enough.

Hee hee, the Yankees lost! Beating the Indians won't be easy for the Red Sox. But I'm just happy that the Yankees won't be involved. Wow, 7 years without a World Series title for them. They've spent something like a billion and a half dollars in payroll since their last title. Wow. The Cubs probably haven't spent that much, and it's been almost 100 years for them! It'll be interesting to see if Joe Torre loses his job...

Well, that's probably enough from me. Have a great day, guys...

Morning,

Getting ready to head out for a few miles this morning. It's also 70* and 99% humidity!! Yippee. At least the weatherman just said that we will be getting cooler air from MN on Thurs. Thanks MN Peeps!

Bob- I think High Heat guessed yesterday.... I'm sorry about your dad. My dad went through that stuff a few years ago (no surgery, though, luckily). I hope it works out that he gets to see baByboB soon!

Scratch that sucks! But, can I ask, is that track lighted or something? I'd be screwed if I wanted to run that early.

Litch glad to hear you're joining us in Philly!

Ok, gotta go get dressed and out the door. My new asthma meds are making me shaky. I hate this. Wish I could just go run. Later!

Good Morning Everyone!

Wow, I had such a hard time keeping up witht he thread yesterday. Such a friendly, chatty bunch!

No run today, but I did get out yesterday for 3 miles. I am trying to get my dog to run with me without totally hurting myself. Lesson learned yesterday: 5:30 am darkness + a black lab pup = me on the pavement. Thankfully, there was no one around to witness that one!

BobSorry to hear that your dad will be missing the birth. Hopefully, he will get to meet the baby soon after.

ScratchI've had that happen to friends before (the track being locked). It was usually due to an event, except at the local college, which apparently doesn't want anyone but students on the track early in the morning.

BethMy sisters go through a similar thing when their's are changed. I hope the shakiness goes away soon for you.

Time to get everyone ready for our day! Have a great day everyone!

G'morning folks.

Got a total of 3 miles on the TM yesterday, with .75 actually run. That's my new record, post-bench, so I was pretty excited, as I'm getting there slowly, but surely. Ran with my "newer" model Saucony shoes, but still with the ankle brace. I prefer the older Saucony's, but hopefully some better insoles will make the newer ones a bit more comfy.

Today is a "work at home" day, since the office next door to me is being painted. So.. I'm going to hop back on the TM as soon as the dogs are done with their breakfast, and hope for another 2 or so. Might even do a second run around lunch or after work.

Wow - Philly DOES seem to be the happening place next month. Hope you guys have a blast!

Gatorbob - Ugh.. that sucks about your pop. Best wishes for him.

BabyGator contest - I guess it's up to PapaGator to decide what the official rules are and such. I started the QOD, but since I'm a participant, there could be a conflict of interest if I add rules at this point.

Okay.. the dogs have finished breakfast, so I need to hop on the TM. I'll check back in with you guys later this morning.

Hope everyone has a maaaahvelous day!

Woke up with a gnarly headache... I hardly ever have headaches, so I don't do well with them. I think it's the tail end of the cold... Needling me one last time before it's over

Ramsey I'm not on slowtwitch much - at least not on the forums. But I've been exploring the idea of a triathlon or three next year, so I've been reading up. I need to get the swimming down though. I did enjoy the article about your DW - that's absolutely incredible! I find it amazing (even moreso than the elites) when a person can work, help raise a family, and compete at that level - truly amazing! I wish her the best on her quest to break the top 20 this year!

It's going to be 92 here today... I'm not sure what happened to fall. I think things are going to cool off starting tonight. I'll head out for a run this evening when the temp drops some.

Have a good day all!

I'd probably run 10 for my next longish run... next weekend - 10 easy miles, maybe some strides towards the end just to shake things out.

Good morning!

It's been quite cool here the last couple of days, so running has been pleasant. Got a nice one in last night then went to supper with DH and the baby. She just loves being out around people, such a social butterfly already.

Maureen congrats on your 10k yesterday!

Sorry to hear about your dad, Bob. When will they make the decision on when the surgery will be?

Ailarie I'm no expert on the whole inducing thing, but my doc did it for me. I was a week overdue and my blood pressure was high so the decision was made to go for it. The method they used involved the insertion of some sort of gel (not sure what it was called, but I'm sure it wasn't WD40 as my dad insists...). They told me that since it was my first baby, they'd probably have to give me another round of it. It was given at 9 PM and they told me to come back in the morning for my second dose. At 3 AM I was back, in full contractions. By 6 AM my water broke and the baby was delivered at 9:58 AM. My doc couldn't believe it happened that fast, but I was pretty glad at that point. So if Bob's Maggie does have to have it done, I hope for a nice fast delivery like that.

Hope your head feels better soon Myron!

Hey all.

Hit the snooze at 5 AM and just couldn't drag myself out of bed. It's just so dark now in the mornings.

So that means I'll be running tonight. No biggie.

Ramsey, I just read the article about your wife (she's a knock-out by the way!) and I am wishing her the best! I know you mentioned a few threads back about her hard core training, but damn, she's pretty intense, huh? Oh, and I love the name Sky, I tried to convince DH to name DD1 that. Good luck to your wife.

Hey kids!

Nothing much to report from yesterday but tons of household chores!! Got all of my new curtains hung and they look awesome! It is amazing what a difference something so simple can make. Then DH decided to rearrange the living room. We don' thave many options as far as that is concerned (HUGE TV, Almost ceiling to floor bay window and fireplace) but he did a fabulous job, it looks great!

Bob sorry your dad won't be there for the birth but he is ensuring he will be there for many more milestones!!! Best of luck to him!! And give Maggie my best!!

Trigirl isn't new, she was around on Coolrunning but since she has been gone for a bit, maybe she never did the questionare?! So good to see you Laura!!!

Tim so glad you are coming to Philly!!!

Ok folks, off to the lab!!! Hope you all get some good runs in but be careful in the heat!!
