Helllllo Friends....

One day closer to the weekend.. squeeee!

haven't caught up on last night's activities yet, anxious to hear how the Torchlight runners did!

Midday workout again for me, cross training + upper body weights. Yay. My most favorite. At least workout wise this week has been awesome for me. Yesterday was one of those "this is why I run" runs.

Nettie - when's the dr's appt... crossed fingers.

Good days and runs to all.

Good morning all. Went out for my med-long run last night but shaved off 2 miles as it takes me into a shady neighborhood and by the time I got to that section of my out-and-back it was after 9:00 p.m. I'm very happy with the 12 I ran tho. Headed to St. Louis this afternoon for a weekend visit and to attend my neice's baptism - yeah!!! Will run an easy 5 mi. after I land with little sis #2 in anticipation of getting our LRs done tomorrow morning.

I really hope some relief comes to everyone & anyone illin' around here and those dealing with getting injuries diagnosed, treated, etc. xoxo

Looking forward to hearing the RRs from the Minnesotans!!

Good morning everyone.

Just a fly by rant before I got take a sleeping pill and head to bed. If any of you have my email address, please get rid of it. All my email accounts, my paypal account, and a few other accounts were hacked tonight. luckily the only credit card on my paypal account is my American Express so and fraud charges will be taken care of. I got home from work and discovered it. I will go in to more detail later if anyone wants to know, but right now I just want to cry. I have no idea how much damage was done yet, or how it happened. I am so careful all the time because I work in a fraud industry. This really sucks.

Night.

That's terrible, Kini. Hope things get back to normal as quickly as possible.

Yikes, this muggy weather is some cruel stuff to run in. But maybe I shouldn't complain, went out and ran 3.1 easy paced miles in 36 minutes.

Good on you.

Hashing Went last night and did the non-running part (that is, drinking beer and talking smack). A friend got named Inverted Camel Toe. Freaking hilarious. She demonstrated how she got the name as well. Yes, she was a little drunk by that time.

Hi folks.

I got me a massage last night!! But the guy was evil and wanted to hurt me!!! No, actually it was terrific but made it very clear how bad I actually am. He told me we wanted to keep pain below a 7. SO he was working my hip, and pretty much the moment he began I yelled "That's a 7" (think 40 year old Virgin "Kelly Clarkson" shout). His reply was "Are you kidding? Cause I am barely touching you". Nope, no joke! All in all it was a good session and I will definately go back, got a good amount of relief in my shoulder so that rocked!!

Kini that is awful!!! But good thing you noticed it quickly, I am sure you minimized the damage. Best wishes to you with that!!

Jen I am about 95% sure I will be in NC in AUg, I think flying into Charolette, then visiting a few different places. I will let you know when I get details from DH!!!!

I am going to see The Police tonight, yipee!!! But thunderstorms are predicted and the show is outside. Am I too old for such things?!

Staci enjoy vaca!!!

I think that is all I have today. Thank you all for your hugs yesterday, I definately needed them and as usual, they did the trick!

Morning gang.

Did a little over 5 miles last night around dinner time. It was just too darn humid for more. The only way to managed to push myself through it was by repeating Voo's mantra in my head over and over again. "Man the F-Up!" So thanks Voo.

DW heads to NYC for the day/night in a few so I'm back on 24/7 duty.

Sorry about your computer issue Kini. That sucks.

How did everyone do last night in the Tourchlight?

Have a great day everyone!

Kini! - What a suckfest. If it's any consolation, this has happened to two of my girlfriends in DC, and in the end, all was recovered that was stolen. Still, I'm sorry for the stress you are about to receive.
gah. People sure can suck.

Doc - good on ya' for being a drinking-smack-talkin' participant. I'm sure you're fun to have around, walking wounded or not.

Maria! - You and your miles. No joke sister. Enjoy the trip to St. Louis!

Daisy, - I'ma bust my tail to be able to get down there to see you early next week. Good runs along sandy beaches to you.

Rainy day here.... Were going to take the pup and go see some of the prehistoric tribal mounds (not the ones by my house, Stace). However, it is supposed to storm pretty hard here.
Don't know what that will mean run-wise as I don't have a TM right now. Yesterday, i think i found a good place to run with Hank though.

Jen I was gone from 7:45-5 yesterday and then took Hank out for like an hour and change to walk...and he still learned the easy version of Find It by bedtime. We're working on the harder version now, where i knows i hid it, but not exactly sure where. I think we're doing a princess and the pea thing... he's sitting on it.

Kini: That sucks 8 kinds of bad ways, kiddo. Hopefully, this will be ok since you do know a lot about this and have likely been on top of watching for it.

Lori cool bean that the shoulder feels better and you WOman-ed up and got that massage.

Chris drinking and trash talking....well now i know you are listening to yourself.

LL good on you for toughing it out. it WAS humid yesterday, man.

Advisor Rant Skip It If Ya Want... but yeah, i'm not looking to blow off steam, i'm looking for some advice if you'd be so kind.

the project i've been working on has been part of a lager research project. all the schools were doing similar digital media kind of work. My school is an under resourced city school with an African American student body of working and surviving families. The other school is located where they do the a major PGA golf tournament (pretty high rent district) and the other was a private school where tuition is 15k and parents donate wings and stuff to be on the board. I often work from a critical race theoretical framework that considers 2 key notions: that the 'colorblind liberal discourse' does not consider the historical marginalization and violence of people of color (therefore creating a new way to oppress) and that when a binary is set, one is necessarily going to be viewed as deficient (either explicitly or subversively). So... in our publishing, i've been very clear that I don't want to be a part of work that creates a space where my students' work is set alongside the work of students with crazy resources both technological and in a 'doing school' kind of way. My advisor (gah) busts in yesterday (comes to hardly any meetings... but this one is about publishing) and says, 'well obviously the most clear thing we can look at is the span of race and social class." asshat. This is for a major conference. Here is the discussion:
Me: i've committed to the NYC conference in the fall. i need to bring up that i may not be able to get leave time for both and i don't want to leave you all with a paper to present and no one to present it.
Dave: Well you know this data better than anyone I think we want you there.
Me: True. But if I can't take any more time off, it is also true that no one can pay my electricity bill but me.
Dave: Well, I think we'd rather have you at the April conference then.
Me: Um Dave, I have my own work going on at November that I want to do and I can't leave my collegues holding the bag for that, particularly because I'm lead author.
Dave: Well what day is that presentation?
Me: Um, i don't know right off the top of my head.
Dave: Well, if they were on the same day, you could fly in just for the day for November and then do the same for the April conference.
Me: Uhhh....

So. My question is this? How the hell do I get out of this work? If I had my defense in the bag, i'd just say, "no thanks" However I do not and my strategy has been to just to whatever he wants until I'm defended. However, I not only do not want to have my name attached to this kind of work I personally just cannot do it.

Advice???

Heh. I think I still have peashooters for the most part, although if there was one good thing about the broken leg is it forced me to channel energy into stuff like chin ups, push ups, stuff with the dumbbells, etc.

In your situation, I expect you to come out of this with massive quads from the stationary bike and a huge gun for a left arm, Doc.

Mornin'

<Shakes blurry head and wipes sleep from eyes>

Well! That was hot! And not in a Paris Hilton kind of way...

Did anyone see the temps or humidity of when we ran? I wasn't able to find it. However, you south peeps who run in this regularly are insane. We all are on some level, I guess! I woke up this morning still dehydrated. I'm sure the beer had nothing to do with it...heh...my gut will pay for that today as well.

Jess- Whaaa happened? We should have set up a meeting place at the finish, and I tried to find everyone at the after party thing but couldn't. I waited for about 20 mins or more, but then ran (yes ran) down to Brit's as Chris was waiting and I thought maybe you were there. I left a message at the front server that we were upstairs, but had forgotten your cell! I'm so sorry! How'd you guys do?

Me--I finished in 27:17 which is a long way from PR for me. However, I am happy with this time as I worked for every freakin' second of it. I haven't been training hard this summer so I knew it wouldn't be my best showing. There were also a ton of people so the start was super slow--my first mile was a 10:12; I couldn't get around people--that's like a long run for me! I knew my second mile I had picked it up considerably but missed my split as I didn't see the mile marker.

Some little 19 year old kid lined up with me at the start and said he had never run more than 2 miles. He stayed with old-grandma me the whole way until what I thought was the last 1/2 mile. I said, "No way is this kid beating me." The problem was I had more than a 1/2 mile to go! I beat him into a pulp, though. Saw him at the after party and he finished in 29 something. Show up at my race and say you've only ever run two miles and want to run with me, snot-nosed little... Old running chicks unite!

Fun afterwards. Dom is a blast--watch this guy, he is becoming a running force to reckon with. Jess is a doll and looks WONDERFUL and her husband, too. Brandy and Baggs, well..they're OK. Kidding. Ya know I love ya both. I'll let everyone share their stuff though. Did you make it out the door this a.m. Brandy? I'm running tonight again, but after dark!

This race motivated me to get back into training more seriously; I really do like racing and have been slacking on it this year due to injuries, etc. It was just what I needed to put a spark back in me, I think. Runners are just fun people, too.

I'll check in later, cats and kittens. Hope you are all well.

Stace, when my old boss went through a mastectomy and I went to see her in recovery, when I asked how she was she snapped back
Hey Roo. A couple of things...when you said they donate wings I thought "They bring Buffalo wings to school functions?" Yeah, lack of coffee. Second, you lost me on a lot of it. But, third, if you do not want to be associated with work you don't believe in, don't do it!!!! Your work has a much more profound purpose and to me it sounds like if you support this publication (or talk) you are not being true to the point you wanted to make. Does that make sense? I understand the anxiety with your thesis still up in the air, that is a tough one. You wouldn't be the first person to fail a defense for something like this (I have a friend who did, it was the most disgusting display of over inflated egos I have ever seen!). I guess all I can say is trust your gut, the work you did is real and meaningful, don't taint it by giving in to something you don't want to, and trust that you earned that PhD and when it comes time to defend, your work will speak for itself!

Holy soaking shorts, Batman! It's muggy as all git-out outside. I woke up early and got my ass in to meet a friend for some hills and then his track workout, and the numbnuts slept in!! WTF?! So I went and slogged through the hills solo (I was gassed on the warm up but eventually Cowboyed the Eff Up and got it done), and then on my cooldown I ran over to the track to see if he ever made it in. He did, so I ran most of his workout with him - good thing I did too or he would have run himself into the ground! He was supposed to do 3x1600 @ 7:00 - I joined him halfway through his first 1600 and we were right about on pace, but his first two laps he was 20 seconds under pace!! And he wonders why I call him an idiot all the time! His last two 1600's were still a little fast, but 6:53 and 6:55 is right around where he should be, not 6:40!

Beaker - I'm jealous you're going to see The Police! We were supposed to see them in Louisville, but for a variety of reasons we weren't able to make it. My 2 all-time favorite bands are The Police and U2, and I've seen NEITHER of them live in concert! However, lucky me - my wife is dragging me to see one of the big country stars next month (I can't recall who - I'm less than thrilled about it). Shoot me now!

Rant - So I take my daughter to Coney Island for swim lessons last night, a local swim and carnival ride place here. I hate hate hate going there - it's rife with people I cannot stand to look at. It seems like of the thousands of people there, only a handful are NOT a) 50-150 lbs overweight and still rockin' the bikini/shirtless look, 2) smoking and drinking, and D) yelling (and often swearing) at their kids. Now, I know that not everyone is into fitness so fine, wearing a few extra pounds is gonna happen, but please try to wear appropriate clothing or swimwear because not everyone wants to see your ass hanging out! And on top of all that, they are cracking down on the parking fee, so despite paying for swim lessons, I also have to pay $6 to sit in a chair and watch my daughter! Last year, we'd just tell them we were there for swim lessons and they'd let us park - now we either have to drop off, drive around for 30 minutes and then go back in to pick up, or pony up $6. I was going to drop off, but the tears started flowing and I got the "You can't leave me! I want you to watch me!" so I was stuck. I told my daughter that I loved her $6 worth - I really should take it out of her piggy bank! /rant

All righty - have a kickin' day.

Yeah, you snuck it in there. I was just beginning to worry that lazy Baggs got miffed by all the lazy comments of yesterday...

Good job on the 27:17. Sounds like an excellent effort considering the weather.
