Howdy.

Just got back from 3.25 slow miles at the track. They can't all be great runs. It gave me 60.7 miles for the month of August in 11:54:22.

Oh well. Maybe I was disappointed at how slow my pace was today, but I feel good that it's another small deposit into the aerobic tank.

I've thought it was for the last 2 days for cryin out loud over spilled milk.

Morning.
No running obviously, so I'm lame. Will strap on the Tevas and go for a puppy walk as soon as its light. No doubt I'll be gone longer than I intended to and have to hustle my bustle to get to work.
First off:
I am delighted to see that our friend from Hawaii is back. ahem. little more lady like for ya Ramsey?
ehh. i've said it before. i am what i am and as long as i am the best i am that i can be, i am happy. now. cifer that out before 7 am...
Myron. Nope. My guess is you don't want to do anything like that on tv. if i had a dollar for every time i've helped catch some big bruiser guy who's passed out in the chair... i dunno. i'd have like 6 bucks. good part of it is, if i'm there and you pass out, a red headed girl says, "honey, i'm going next door to get a pop, can i bring you one?" and you get a coke out of the deal.
I still think Bard is a stud.
Lori stop working too hard (who'm i to talk?)
I'm showing my Blow a Kiss to Linwood Movie Maker thing (a few of ya'll have seen it) to my students today to introduce cultural autobiography and historical interpretation. Pray for lack of technical difficulties with ghetto school technology....
Hi Moon!
QoD for d' roo... did you have a favorite teacher? or just any that weren't demon spawn?
Peace love and chicken grease, folks!

Good morning, folks. Ugh, it's only Thursday? Wow, yet another slow week...

Scratch, that's how I always try to look at it after a less-than-great run. No matter how bad a run it is, it's still better than if you skipped it and stayed home.

Speaking of staying home... today is a scheduled day off. I will try to hit the gym for some weights, but that'd be it. Thursday is now the only day that I go to the gym. Not only is that probably bad for my strength conditioning, it also means that I'm not getting my money's worth out of that gym membership. Oh well, marathon training is a b!tch...

College football starts tonight! Woohoo!

Have a great day, everyone...

Hi, everyone--

I hope everyone is well, or well on the way to recovery. I've been super busy with my dissertation and getting ready for our national conference this week, soooooo no running (except for the sprint to the bus on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (1:00 am)). This, I think, is actually a good thing because now I miss running, and I can't wait to get back into it next week when I'm back from the conference. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

I'm going to update my RR from the weekend when I get back from the conference, but here are some of the pictures from the race. They're definitely NOT pretty, but they make me chuckle, so I thought they would amuse you too.

1. Before race (excited but nervous)

2. Friend missed me and got me from behind

3. One second before finish

4. One second after finish (nice and sweaty)

5. After puke, but before realizing that I neglected to stretch.

I have three job interviews at the conference, so send good vibes to Chicago today, tomorrow and Saturday. I'm also celebrating my birthday on Saturday night, so this conference has the potential to be really huge for me.

Again, I hope that everyone is well, and I hope to be around more after the weekend. [Hey, I wrote 2 dissertation chapters in August, so give me a break!]

(Sorry the pictures are so big; I'll make them smaller next time.)

Good morning! Getting ready for my 5 mile run as called for in my new running plan. I think I have a touch of tendonitis in my right achilles tendon. No, I know I do, it's been hurting for weeks. Ugh!

Prae: great pics! You definitely do not look as though you just had that run you described. You're looking quite happy. Have a great weekend: conference, birthday and all!

Catch y'all later.

I'd like to avoid passing out on TV at all costs The only thing that I have going for me, to get on a show is the back story for the tattoo (which I'll share here after I get the tattoo). What I want is fairly simple though. So I'm pretty sure that won't do for TV anyway. Usually on Miami Ink and from what I've seen on LA Ink, there are two components (amidst the drama of opening/running a shop), and that's the backstory for the art, and the artwork itsself - most of the time it's pretty intricate.

Favorite Teacher I've had so many it's hard for me to name one. It would be easier for me to name my least favorite - I only have 2 or 3 of those. I completely respect and admire those who give their time to educate our children. Teachers are completely under compensated for the important job they have. My wife is a teacher, and while wasn't my teacher (at school anyway)... I see what she does, and the effort she puts in, so I guess my answer would be... my wife is my favorite teacher.

Hey folks! Trying to sneak in here before work gets to be too much! So um yeah my sweet Roo, still working too hard!!!! But I was thinking of yu yesterday, I was walking my Princess doggie and thought of you and the Hankster!!! Hope the toe is better every day!

Prae girl those pictures are fabulous!!!! I never got a chance to congratulate you on your race!!!! You are no longer a rookie!!!!

So forced some bike time yesterday. So did not want to do it but I did! Then a super long walk with my fat doogie, he was wiped out after!!!

I WILL get out of work on time today! Going to the Eagles game tonight, so no delays!!!

QOD: I had a teacher that I credit for why I became a biologist. I took her AP Bio class my senior year. Up until that class I was all set to go to pharmacy school. EVen had early admission and a full ride to a top notch school. Jan of senior year I changed my mind, much to my parents dismay. But she made me fall in love with biology, she made every class fun and exciting, and she honestly cared about every student who came into her room. I wish I knew where she was now, I would love to thank her!!! Good question today, teachers are way too underappreciated!!!

Ok, gotta run! Oh but must say love the shots of the ink! You guys have me thinking about another!!!

Morning all,
Well, DH's hunch was right and the sellers of the house in Cali decided they didn't want to sell after all- argh. Guess we'll be in some temp housing for a while- which means probably most everything we own will be in storage, and finding somewhere that will take 2 cats. Double argh. But, the market is continuing to go down there so hopefully it will mean a better deal in the end.
And, I didn't get up for spinning this morning- not sure what my problem was but I'm not happy with myself.
Prae- great pics! Scratch- at least you were out there and you're doing great.
Roo's QOD: There were a few, but there was one college prof I had that I think about all of the time- she was just so interesting and had an impact on me. I googled her once to see if she was still there b/c I was going to send her an email her and tell her that she had an impact (i have a feeling teachers like that kind of stuff), but I couldn't locate her. Maybe our information finding star Moe can help. (How are you feeling by the way?)

Morning Gang!

Learned last night that my 16 mile ride home is actually 16.88 miles. This means I'm not a slow as I thought I was! Got delayed in leaving work (co-worker's dad is dying and the co-worker was in last night so we talked for a bit) which made DH worry about me when I wasn't home in around the time I should have been which made him cranky. He decided that I was going to grill the steak for supper.

I have always maintained that grilling is the man's job. Last night, 2 matches later - he agreed with me. I am now the only person I know who cannot light a gas grill with 2 matches. Still the steak was yummy, I did the standing around lookin' pretty part.

from last night - kp: nice, nice nice nice nice nice.

from this morning - Prae, fantastic pictures!!! You have race photos!! How cool is that?!?

from yesterday - Bard, those are awesome pics. You look like you are totally in charge of that race.

also from yesterday - EQ, you're ever in Duluth with your convertible, I'm totally taking you up on that spin around town!!!

Kini - hang in there, sunshine!!

Okay, I think that's all I got for now. . .

QOD My 6th grade teacher, Chris Hage. On Isle Royale a few years ago I met someone who knew her and they told me she was still teaching at my elementary school. I emailed her, she emailed me back. She is still an inspiring woman to me.

OH - forgot, I wanted to tell Myron that I really like his answer.

Good Morning
Mary don't discount standing around and looking pretty while grilling is going on. It can get dang hot near the grill.

Prae great pictures.

QOD My advertising professor in college. We bonded over shoes.

Last night was freshman orientation and open house/meet the teacher night. At orientation the principal handed out college tuition rates along with gpa needed to attend certain schools. After the elation of realizing B can go anywhere he wants if he maintains his gpa, my heart almost stopped when I saw the cost. So this morning is being spent reseaching 529 plans. It was a little after 8 when we got home. I had week 4, day 2 scheduled and I almost bagged the run. I looked at the schedule, it was only a 20 minute run, so I quickly changed and headed out the door. Normally I would not have gone for the run and just made it up another day.

Mornin' gang! Good news! Well...for me, anyway...hee hee! I'm under 140 on the scale again! Just barely at 139, but still...makes me happy!

No run since the ski hill on the weekend, but we did go for a nice walk last night with the dog and the baby. It was such a nice evening.

KP wicked tattoo! What gave you the inspiration for it?

Prae love the pics! You look great!

2 more sleeps til the weekend! My dad and his wife are watching the baby for us so we can go to a big party and I can't wait! There's a big outdoor concert across the street from my friend's place, Faith Hill and her hubby are playing. I'm not that into country, but it'll be neat to watch all the people coming and going and we'll be able to hear the music.

4 hour conference call? I think that's when you say that you've developed a sudden case of ebola and blood is spewing out of you, Noni.

Long live the 529 we started one for DS when he was 6 months old. We can't afford to put in as much as we'd like, and I shutter to think of how much he/we'll owe on top of what we save. But it's nice to have the tax defferred savings plan right now

KP nice ink work! I doubt DW will see the post, but she knows how I feel She's been busy this week busting her butt gearing up for school to start next week.

morning, all!

Six miles done this morning. Was thinking about going surfing again after I ate some cereal 'cause I had so much fun with it last night, but I'm too late. My beach isn't a surfing beach and the guards go on in 10mins. Oh well -- I'll go out later!

kp - great leg art
prae - those pix look like you rocked that race. no evidence of the rough stuff you described! happy bday and good luck with the job!

QOD - my favorite teacher was my 2nd grade teacher. I'm not sure why, really, I just liked her a lot. She made me feel special in her class (as I'm sure she did with everyone). Funny thing is, my mom went on to teach in that school until she retired this year, so I still talk to or see my teacher every now and again because she's good friends with my mom...

Good morning!

Thanks to whomever posted the oven-fried green tomatoes recipe in the recipe thread (Brandy? Sage? I'm too lazy to go back and look ). They were very good and very easy to make. I made some last night, and used regular skim milk in place of the evap milk and it worked out just fine. I'm definitely keeping that recipe in my repertoire.

I got a call last night from one of my friends, Bets. Another friend of ours was able to make a last minute trip from CA, and our little group will be going to a new lake house for the weekend. Woot! I won't get there until late Sat evening, because I'm going to the OSU football game, but it'll be fun. I wasn't able to visit with our CA friend the last time she came out this way.

QOD- my all-time favorite was Mrs. K, my 4th grade teacher. She taught us silly songs, and read us books in class like Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and other great books. She was diagnosed with MS a few years before I had her, and eventually had to retire early because of it. She's still around though. Looking back, 4th grade was the last year in grade school that I was totally happy. From 5th grade on, I was the class outcast.

QOD One of my favorite teachers was a Western Civilization teacher at Ole Miss. I took two classes that he taught. He was an expert in Middle Eastern (current and past) affairs, a military veteran and was actually called out of retirement by the U.S. Army to serve as a consultant during the first gulf war in 1991. He knows his stuff! That said I thought he had a great personality and knew the material completely. His presentation was what was enjoyable to me. Dr. Cook was almost like a stand up comedian with some of the material. That kept it from being boring. During class as he was talking he would walk a big sem-icircle from the left to right edges of the front row as he talked.

I remember one story that got a big laugh out of the class. He was talking about the era of knights and the feudal system in England.

he said:
"You know in the movies you have this handsome knight in armor riding his horse and he sees the fair maiden so beautiful that he could see her a mile away. Remeber that? Well in reality personal hygiene was almost non-existant for the common people who bathed maybe one a week or perhaps even once a month. Thus the knight, instead of seeing the damsel a mile away, he more likely smelled her a mile away."

The class laughed. That's one example that stuck in my mind.
