Ok here is today's "I couldn't make up something this funny if I tried" random happening. I just went to ticketmaster's website to double check the prices of the ZZ Top tickets. You know how it gives you that random generated word/letter combo that you have to type in to proceed?? Guess what it was for me as I looked up ZZ Top tickets?...........

unhair

I kid you not. I couldn't think of that on my own
"Hell to the yes!"

BTW, there is a race called the James Page Brewery Blubber Run--It's a 5k on Sat. the 15th. They serve beer at the first mile...just a thought.

It's not serious, but a lot of fun.
oooo. . .that would be fun. . .and could still make it North for the Beer Train that evening. . .
Hi!

Pb coookies. MMmmmmmm. And the [fake] German chocolate cake I'm going to make later. Y.U.M.

I just saw some dude on a motorcycle with an EZ Vac box duct taped to his back. (There were 2 bands of tape going around him and the box, one around his chest, one around his waist.) Huh.

Oh, and a guy at pottery hugged me this morning, so now I smell like Polo cologne. Heh. Dh's reaction ought to be funny.

Voo - did you get that wind & rain last night? Or did it stay up north? Wow. Good storm. Couple tornados and everything. The river is really freaking high now. Some of the islands are just trees poking out of the water.

Maples - I can run faster and way longer when it is cool out. So can Gus. I like anything below 50*, Gus is in heaven 30* & below.
Another off race for me... PW in a half... 1:55:15 I'm officially blaming the heat and humidity. I spent most of the last half "jogging/shuffling" trying to keep the goosebumps at bay. The good news is, that with the cold I had last week I already had low expectations I was kind of thinking around 1:40 though. I'm in line with my "long run" training pace (though still a little on the slow side), so I'll take it as a training run, and move on from there.
Hats off to anyone who is running in this yuck today! I don't even want to go outside.

I'm running a 2M Doggie Dash in two weeks in Reading. It does sound like fun, doesn't it?

I think I would have cut my run short, too! What a morning. It can only go up from here.

A huge Congratulations to you Mary!!
Ditto for me, except that I am down about 50+ # in 2 years of running. Today was evidence of the "cooler = faster" for me. LR pace is usually 10 mm for me +-15 sec of so. Partway through my run, I came around a corner where there was a nice breeze blowing across an open field. The temp probably dropped 10 degrees (felt like it anyway) and my pace was 9:15 for the next half mile and my HR was about 5-7 bpm lower than it was before than going slower.

Way to go Mary!!!

And ditto to Kini on the casual "3 miles" - nicely done. Very nicely done.

Well I got back from my LR in 1:58 with a several minute stop for Gatorade refill partway. According to Motionbased, it was 11.74 miles with an average moving pace of 9:35 and overall pace of 10:02. I kept my HR in the upper 130's till the last 3 miles and then I picked up the pace and let it climb to the mid-140's. It was 76 when I headed out and there was a very light off-and-on drizzle the whole time that felt GREAT. Funny thing, I was trying Accelerade today and discovered that while running, it gets whipped into a frothy foam. Real strange, but I liked the flavor, tummy was ok with it and I certainly feel a bit less beat-up that I have for a while (course that might be the cooler weather too).

Got home and after a shower, had a Fig Newton, the rest of the Accelerade and then a big glass of fatfree milk with 2 blueberry muffins that DW had made while I was out. Am I a lucky guy or what? Now MIL and DW took both DS's and nephew (visiting MIL from MN) to the movies so I am going to take a little nap on the couch.

29.85 miles for the week
97+ for the month
106 for July
= August should easily be a new high mileage month for my running.
Only 668+ for 2007 so far, but I should be able to break 1100 for the year.

Hey all,

I too was up at the butt crack of down for my LR. Alarm went off at 4:05 am, and before I could remember that today was an early group LR, I thought WTF?

Anyway, I'm sorry that everyone seemed to struggle today in the heat and humidity. I guess where I am, we've just built up a tolerance to the heat and humidity after days and days of exposure to it.

Run start time was 5:00am. Weather like Maples said was 75 degrees and 82% humidity. BTW, I don't do the early morning post thing when leaving for the run, because the computer is in our master bedroom and I don't want to subject sleeping DW to the sound of keys @ 4:15 AM.

Anyway, I haven't downloaded data from my Garmin, but I do know this:
I rocked the sh!t outa my 15 miler this morning!!! No complaints about weather or conditions or the giant mtn that I climbed. I just made it happen.

Today's workout goal was 15 miles w/12 at goal marathon pace. For me, the goal pace is 8:00mm. So, I did the first 3 @ 9:00 mm pace, and then tried to drop the hammer, but the only negative was that I was climbing a mountain at the time. So, I held a little back to keep from hitting the wall, from there, 11 outa 12 miles were at 8:00 or better. Many in the 7:35 - 7:45 range. I'm thrilled to death with that kind spead on this course, in this weather.

Total run: 15.01 miles in 2:02:20 - 8:09 avg pace.

Congrats to McTortle! Way to Go.

Sounds like you had a good day too Maples.

It's Miller time now.

Check in witch ya later.
I would really, really like that. And if you weren't 6 feet tall, I'd totally take some of those clothes off your hands.

I had a totally stressful brunch with my mom and sister. Before it even started, I wasn't feeling well and almost passed out. DH made me sit down and put my head between my knees. My mom and sister have had issues for years and years, and sometimes things are better and sometimes they are worse. Today? Well, it's 1:30 here and I'm wondering if I can justify drinking.

:c hain:dink
Thanks for all the congrats gang, I honestly couldn't wait to get back here to tell you all! Virtual friends, nothin'!

(((Diane))) DH just poured me a beer, and it's only 12:40 here - never to early to start.
Myron I'm actually hoping to set a PR next HM with a 1:55. But good to chalk it up as a training run and move on.

Melis: I think it is the best place to puke. That was the Dr knows you are not faking it or making it sound like you feel worse that you do. (((Craney))) hope you get it under control soon.

Too cute. I would stick with amused. Also, she didn't say she didn't need you, just that she needed daddy also. It is always better to have both parents when there is a storm (weather or orhterwise) brewing.

I kind of realized I was taking les and less walk breask while trianing for my first marathon. I never set out to not take walk breaks, I just noticed that I needed them less often. I will still take them at times, but today, it was cool here (similar temp to yours, but less humidity) and the only time I slowed, was at the store to buy more Gatorade. There were a couple times I thought about it and decided it is too boring to walk when I want to be running. Nothing wrong with a few walk breaks when you need it (last week was all about walk breaks for me, horrible heat + humidity).

Oh and if anyone cares, I see nothing wrong with taking walk breaks, just something I would rather avoid when I am running.

Rough run. With all those thorns, there must be a rose around somewhere, so keep your eyes open.

ETA, this post made me a 1/2 marathoner !!!

Oh! I forgot - Litch, I thought of you while I was running. Since you were gracious enough to have all the rotten things happen to you on your run. . . I thought you should know I got hit by 8 grasshoppers while I was running today.

And, Cactus - I was thinking, next year I think you should come to Duluth and do one of our tris (you know, the little ones so you can just practice on them ) - then we can meet!
Hi, everyone.

Here's the link to my RR. It's long:http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10071

I'm going to take a nap now, and I can't say when I'll be back on the boards. I get much less work done on my dissertation when I check in frequently and this is sh!t or get off the pot time for me. If you want to contact me, the best way is probably by e-mail (praecipuapgh at gmail dot com).

I hope everyone is doing well.
G'morning everyone-

Sounds like there have already been some tough runs in some nasty conditions. Way to stick it out Maria, Tim, Voo, boB, Scratch and anyone else I missed...(sorry about the bird carp Tim. Sounds like Voo's bad day traveled east..err....easy)

Great new milestones Kini and Mary McT.

Anyone heard from Prae yet about her 1st race? How about Korbs on that crazy (read: sounds like a lot of fun) relay.

Sorry about your stressful brunch Diane.

What shoes are you going to golf in Moe?

Have a great vacation Tom.

Who else am I missing? Is Bard and Nick's race today or tomorrow?

{{{roo's toe}}}

Have fun on your run tomorrow Heather and Jill

I got out for 12M this morning, with two 10 minute cruise intervals thrown in. My legs were really stiff at the start (sometimes happens to me after an off-day), but I finished really strong. East effort after the tempo, but my pace was surprisingly fast. It was coolish (low-70s, overcast, slight drizzle) so that probably helped.

The Pima CC men's X-C team was training on the same trail as me this morning. There were an awful lot of shirtless, ripped, speedy guys running around. Didn't do much for me, but some of you wimmins would have enjoyed it, I'm sure.

I found out last night we got free tickets to the Diamondbacks-Cubs game tonight up in the Valley. Gonna need to grab a nap if I'm going to make it through. They have Coldstone Creamery at Chase Field, so I'm gonna get me some of that after some sausages and beer. Mmmmm....

That Old 30 Very Plus guy here, popping in to say hello and well done to everyone so far this weekend. I'm staying out of town this weekend at OH's, and went for a run around Naas - 32 minute run, around 4 miles, and full of the joys of spring.... Will do, Sir! Sounds like an excellent plan.
Hi all – again, getting in a quick post from here at work. Turned the corner and found a truck with several pallets-full of running shoes unloaded at a place where there didn’t seem to be a shoe or even retail clothing store in sight.
