Mornin' all!!

Stuck at work all night. Such is the life of a schlub (sp?) who is going on vacation. Yep. You heard me. Tuesday - at the crack of dawn - we are catching a flight to Cabo. Of course, they are predicting clouds and isolated T-storms for the first 3 days we are there. too bad. I am having fun, and no one is stopping me.

While the scanner was doing its thing (I am taking a couple of files with me - on a flash drive), I was able to catch up on a few of the threads. You folks are a chatty crowd these days.

Hope all your races went well this weekend. I will follow the thread for a little while - assuming there are replies at this GAWDAWFUL time of day, then will try to check in again tonite.

Be well!!
QOD- I notice stride first. After that, I'm checking out the legs, on both men and women. I'll never have great looking legs, so I just admire the heck out of others'.
Morning gang

Playing hookey from work today. Need to drop of DD's 1st grade registration papers and go for my follow up sports Dr. appt. plus a couple of other errands. Nothing too exciting. Will try to squeeze in a workout at the Y also.

GoV enjoy your vacation!

Congrats to Mr Theia on another IM triumpth. Good luck to Theia on her tri!

boB While I just registered and bought a plane ticket for Philly Saturday night, I havent reserved a hotel yet. Id be game to share a room.

QOD Being that I am a fairly slow runner, I notice the speed and stride of the few runners I might see while out on a run.

Wow I just noticed my status has changed from 10k runner to 1/2 marathoner, kewl
I had no idea I was potentially being analyzed on this level...so... analyze me:

I couldn't ever for the life of me get my heels very high, but I wasn't a shuffler, either.

Mid-foot strike. This was intentional because it seemed to reduce my shin pain when I was starting out, and it felt comfortable after that.

No crazy legs.

Higher turnover seemed to be more comfortable than a too-stretched out stride for me.

Toward the end, I was a mid-packer-ish mid-to-high 8-minutes per mile for a 5k or 5 miler.

And all of the above can be thrown out the window if I was kicking at the end of a race.

What conclusion would you have come to about me?
Hey, here's a stupid question... Is anyone thinking yet about a 30s marathon gathering for Spring '08? I know it's early... but we're gonna have a very young baby then, and it's probably never too early to start planning for something like that...
morning gang, did not even read the thread otehr than I saw the QOD.

Great weekend with the kids. saw Ratatouille (sp?) (funny), spent over 3 hours at Charles E Cheese (absolute riot and the kids actually ate their pizza), went to the Wacky Bear Workshop an the kids made a stuffed animal. Cool that even the 7 year old still though it was fun. he made a husky that he named Ghost Rider and put a spiderman costume on it.

Got home yesterday dreading my schedule long run (18-20 mile range). I went a smidge over 18 and it sucked...it sucked big. a little slow, but yesterday was about survival, not pace. My legs hate me today.

QOD I notice their mechanics of all things and then wonder if I look as smooth or as akward as them when I run. Oh and like competitive Maria, I have this weird thought of "Hmm I wonder if I could whoop their ass in a race"
None of this would matter if you were running without a shirt on

Re: Spring '08 Marathon - I have no doubt sis #2 will BQ in Chicago so I'll go there to support her and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do a destination marathon next year.
Frankie, how many nights will you be staying in Philly? I will probably only be there one night (Saturday). All this can get worked out in time...

QOD: Like many others, I tend to notice someone's speed first. And if someone is going faster than me, I am likely to try and pick up my pace if I can...
begin self-centered angonized rant:

I came to work today fully prepared with good food, healthy snacks. Not going to over-indulge, going to focus on fueling not mindless eating.

1. Finance boss comes in with 7 year old daughter and donuts - fine.
2. Accounting boss comes in with massive cookies - fine.
3. Neighbor down hallway in building comes in with homemade M&M cookie/bar things -

Is someone trying to tell me something!?!?! WTF?!?!?

[/end rant]

I think you all should come to Duluth for Grandma's in June - I'll buy the first round of beers. . .
That's no fun.

My focus would then turn to if I could run faster than you in the imaginary race taking place in my mind.

ETA - thanks bOB ...it's still there as a goal for me but really, sis is FLYING these days. We ran our LR at around a 9:05-9:10 pace and it was purely for me; she could have blasted those 18 miles out at 8:30
Please do . . .there are 3 plates piled high with this stuff!!!

absolutely! Someone has to cheer!
No Grandma's for me. Too expensive of a weekend with those hotels gouging the customers at $200+ a night with a 2 night commitment. REDONKULOUS.

Fargo was a good one!
What Lolly Does For The Weekend

1. Ate my way through 48 hours of birthday celebrations
2. Do laundry for DH who goes to Chicago for most of this week
3. Crash a 20 year high school reunion that happened to be in a ball room next to a restaurant we ate at this weekend inside the Hyatt.

yep, that about wraps it up... notice how running isn't in there anywhere??? bad girl!!!

Maria, a kid who can fall asleep anywhere is a mother's dream!!! I couldn't even get my girls to fall asleep in the stroller! Someone is very very lucky!
also,
it looks like y'all have been having some fun races. Way to go on all that. the more i read, the more inspired I am to get myself back out there more.
Sorry. It creeped me out too, but being the manly man of the house it was my duty to least try to kill it. So i was running around the porch and deck w/ shovel and rake trying to chase it down and spear it (chop it, whack it, whatever). I seem to attract the stupid things as Timr can attest.
Morning (for a few more minutes).

Well nothing like strep throat and a week down to make the first run teh suck I actually ended up walking the last 1/3. I just couldn't take it. Ugh.

I'm game - Grandma's in '08!!!!
pass the M&M ones first...unless something there has coconut in it...mmmm...coconut...

I can do that, I think.
Mr Theia - way awesome & conga-rats. I'm impressed and envious. Go Theia, go!
Solar - LBI was awesome thanks, warm water 4 of 5 days, great surf for body surfing and I caught a few fluke from the surf. Cooked 'em up on the grill - very tasty. I'll be in touch (PM) when my trip is finalized in a few weeks.
Winter - RE: your response yesterday - "Can we switch this around maybe? just for now? Nevermind...." - Standard response - you should know this - I'll need photographic evidence first!
Scratch - how do you calc/estimate your VOmax? Online tool?
Baggs - jeez, impressive mileage. How 'bout a day of rest?
QOD - if female - I look at boobs first. Otherwise - level of effort and eye contact for a head nod/hello unless it's crowded or there is poor footing, then it's all about me.
NY - cute pix. who's that behind the yoga child?

I tweaked my neck yesterday while yawning. That led to a rotten night of sleep last night and it's killing me today - even post-Tylenol. I had plans for 5M at lunch but I don't think that the jogging motion will be all that comfortable. Pizzed.
Here's one: http://runningahead.com/tools/calculators/vo2max

Or you can also look it up in the tables in Jack Daniels' Running Formula book. Of course, for a while, with me taking over 30 minutes to complete 5Ks, I wasn't in the tables.

The only real way to get it measured would be to go to a lab where they could actually collect breathing samples. Here's a description of that: http://runtrails.blogspot.com/2007/0...t-results.html
