Mornin' all!!

Stuck at work all night. Such is the life of a schlub (sp?) who is going on vacation. Yep. You heard me. Tuesday - at the crack of dawn - we are catching a flight to Cabo. Of course, they are predicting clouds and isolated T-storms for the first 3 days we are there. too bad. I am having fun, and no one is stopping me.

While the scanner was doing its thing (I am taking a couple of files with me - on a flash drive), I was able to catch up on a few of the threads. You folks are a chatty crowd these days.

Hope all your races went well this weekend. I will follow the thread for a little while - assuming there are replies at this GAWDAWFUL time of day, then will try to check in again tonite.

Be well!!

Moon:

I just finalized plans for DH and I to have a little (hectic) weekend getaway!!!! We are flying down to NC for a 60th Anniversary party for his old next door neighbor. I am really excited!!! DH went to college in NC and then lived there for 12 years after. Part of that time he worked at a golf club and his old neighbors moved into the community there, small world, right? So we are spending a night in Charlotte to meet up with his college friends. Then heading to Badin to the club for a day of festivities, ending with a dinner dance at the clubhouse! Wahoo! So excited! Hey JustJen, any shot I will be anywhere near you at all?!
Interesting talk about stride.....

I did my first session of sitting/walking meditation over the weekend. It was great. The walking part in particular....we were instructed to be mindful of our heel strike. Thinking about each part of my foot on the floor...heel, arch, forefoot, toes, pushoff......it was great.

Also reminded me what a mediatitve practice running is for me in general. May also explain why I am out of my mind these last days. Or maybe that's just the way I am.

QOD Yeah. I'm with 2oh. Boobs. Otherwise, a look to see if I'm going to make no acknowledgement, nod my head or wave and say Hi.
Lori - be sure to try some Catdaddy Moonshine while down in NC. There's a tasty recipe for Kitty Cosmos on the bottle
There are some very interesting recipes on the website!!! I am all about the local flavor so I will pick me up some! You have never steered me wrong, I am sure I will be loving moonshine!
QOD: 1. Sex, 2. weight, 3. physical "attributes" (f), shoes (m) 4. speed 5. form/stride. If they get w/in 30 ft I say Hi, practically everytime.
Oh yeah, wanted to wish Nettie all the best on her doc's appointment today. Hopefully it's not as serious as what's been suggested

McTortle - I'm guilty; I torment co-workers with offerings of food at my desk. Right now, there's a big bag of this just awaiting folks' appetites

Yeah but, Moon - at least you can pretend there's some health benefit there! I'm faced with snickerdoodles, chocolate covered donuts and M&M bars . . .even if I go use the arguement that flour is made from grain . . .I'm not getting a lot of nutrition out of these. . . Sigh. . .at least I get to go swimming soon . . .

Our office is so bad, we have a cubicle reserved for food. On a regular basis an email will come out saying "cake in the food cube" or "yummy treats from Japan/China/India/everywhere in the food cube". And once a month for any b-days in the month there are 2 cakes. usually one is lemon and the other carrot cake (that is a veggie serving right?) with the richest frosting I've EVER had (and I've had a lot).

Well, printed out tickets for 6-Flags while we are up in SF. Next up Alcatraz tour tix....
[delurk] We are a 150+ person operation, with maybe 100 people onsite here. We used to have birthday cakes for every single birthday. Do the math.[relurk]
So, I switched my plans around again this morning and decided to get my run done at the shore before heading home. The rain had stopped, but since the wind was still really strong, my dad dropped me off at the north end of the island so I could run back to their house with the wind off my right shoulder... sounds like a great plan...

It was. For the first two miles. Then it started to drizzle. Then I literally had to push myself around and off of the hood of a huge Mercury Mountaineer driven by a surfer kid on his cell phone barrelling off the beach and not looking as he pulled out onto the road. Then the rain started coming down in buckets. My dad finds me at mile 6ish and asks if I want a ride home. I let out a huge smile and said, No way! This is fun! By the time I finished the 10, it was sunny and I was soaked through. But I got it done.

QOD: I notice stride, clothes, effort level, eye contact... lots of stuff...

G'morning!

900 yds in the pool this morning. This was a slightly more controlled drown than last time. Ugh. I used to be a fairly competent swimmer, so I'm hoping I'll get it back at some point, but my buoyancy has changed dramatically since the last time I was swimming regularly.

Big congrats to Mr Theia on another IM. Wow...just...wow. And bigtime racing vibes out to Theia herself. I can't wait to hear how her tri goes.

Enjoy your vacation GoV! Cabo make just catch part of the Southwest monsoon pattern (hence the T-storms) but I guarantee the margaritas will taste just as good. Any chance you could "misplace" that flash drive?

Welcome back Maria. Asshole, huh? I haven't played that since, well, since I played it in the conference hotel bar with a bunch of other grad students at a meeting a few years ago in Atlanta. Probably not terribly professional, but I did have a professional hangover the next day....

Good luck with the madness this week Kris.

QOD: I definitely first whether they're cute. And if they're wearing ponytails.

And while we're creeping people out with snake pics, I saw one of these badboys on a hike a few months ago:

(Western diamondback rattlesnake) I damned near stepped on him, which would have ruined my day for sure. Luckily it was cold, and he was lethargic and not coiled up. They're amazingly well camouflaged in the desert, and it freaked the heck out of me. Definitely made me suspicious of a lot of roots we can across!

Anyone notice anything different about me today? Anyone? Anyone?
Solar, I'm impressed that you can stand running on LBI Blvd. I really had to push myself to run 4 (out & back) - I need elevation, curves, trees, solitude. I guess I'm more of a rural runner.
Nice work!
And it doesn't just sprinkle down there - it sheets!
Your name is green and you must have been buddies w/Frank Sinatra on THE BOARD
Thank you! Thank you! I could not have done it without the talents of Winter!
Is your green name related to your green feeling recently? uke:ukeleft:

The north end of the island is waaaaaayyyyy boring to run... nothing there. But once you get into Surf City and the southern end, there's a lot going on. I do loops and parks and turns and twists when I'm at my house near Philly, so I do get that in my runs, but since I grew up on LBI, I'm very used to the long, straight runs there. I love that I don't have to stop at traffic lights every few blocks like I do at home. I usually end up seeing people I know along the way. I weirdly prefer doing my long runs there... We'll have to go for a run in August...
Will I never live that down?

Congrats on your excellent bike ride last night by the way!
