Morning My Pretties,

I got out for 3 recovery miles. My legs felt fine to start then my right hamstring just got tighter and tighter. Stretched. I thought recovery runs were supposed to loosen things up and prevent soreness? My quads and hamstrings are sore now. ahh well....I'll live.

Gov: Happy Vacation. Don't work too hard.

Theia: Best of Luck tonight/today!

Heather: I think it's lovely that you treated your mom to all of that on her birthday.

boB: It's not bad form if she's not around.

Maria: Cute! Cute! Cute!

PhillyT: I haven't found that book yet... I'll look online for the title and pass it along. Sorry I've taken so long.

Howdy folks - just a little sore from my bike ride on Sunday, but otherwise just fine. Will try to get in a short run before my second OW swim later on today.

Like I said over the weekend, major props to Theia's husband Andrew on his Ironman achievement - simply amazing stuff! I fully expect Theia herself to rock her first tri today - can't wait to hear how she does.

GoV - have fun in Cabo!!! You definitely deserve some time away from things

Kris - good luck with Orientation. The one thing I remember going to my orientation was when one of our group asked what there was to do for entertainment around town; the adviser half-jokingly responded, "Well, you could always go and tip cows."

Geez, Maureen - we'll have to get you taking McT's beer courses just to see what pics we'll get afterward

Mmmmmmm, Pizza - Bob, definitely better than a frickin' T-shirt for certain!

Nice improvement Scratch...you've got bigger and better things lined up as time goes on.

Maria - the niece is darling! When I see the first pic, it makes me think of bug pose in yoga (and she can do it a helluva lot better than I can.) However, I think I got her matched on my ability to crash sitting upright on the BART train going to/from work.

No QOD yet? Here's one - What's the first thing you take notice of when you encounter another runner on the road? I think I'm weird in this regard - I notice their shoes first, and then I take note of their running stride.

QOD - if it is a girl, I notice the clothes first, then stride. Guys, stride. All - I notice at some point if they are faster than me

QOD: Ever since I blew a snot bubble out my nose when I smiled at one lady passing me, I have to say that I am more self-concious when passing other runners. I look for the eye contact and the nod. I'll analyse them later from memory once they've gone past.

QOD - stride first, then other things, espcecially if they are female. Stride especially at races. Ann, Kath, and I saw a woman at the Pig who was not small and was literally running on her toes - her heel never hit the ground!

Flem - thanks for creeping me out as well with the snake pic. geez!

Maria - what a cutie!!!!!

QOD Like Brandy, on women I notice their clothes first and then how hard or not hard they're running. On dudes, it's their stride and/or abs (if shirtless) - I nearly always make an internal comment about whether I'm running the same pace, faster or slower than them. Competitive much?

And yes, Voo, being asshole sux - luckily my little sistas took turns being low man on the totem pole leaving me to BW.

QOD- I notice stride first. After that, I'm checking out the legs, on both men and women. I'll never have great looking legs, so I just admire the heck out of others'.

Playing hookey from work today. Need to drop of DD's 1st grade registration papers and go for my follow up sports Dr. appt. plus a couple of other errands. Nothing too exciting. Will try to squeeze in a workout at the Y also.

GoV enjoy your vacation!

Congrats to Mr Theia on another IM triumpth. Good luck to Theia on her tri!

boB While I just registered and bought a plane ticket for Philly Saturday night, I havent reserved a hotel yet. Id be game to share a room.

QOD Being that I am a fairly slow runner, I notice the speed and stride of the few runners I might see while out on a run.

Wow I just noticed my status has changed from 10k runner to 1/2 marathoner, kewl

I had no idea I was potentially being analyzed on this level...so... analyze me:

I couldn't ever for the life of me get my heels very high, but I wasn't a shuffler, either.

Mid-foot strike. This was intentional because it seemed to reduce my shin pain when I was starting out, and it felt comfortable after that.

No crazy legs.

Higher turnover seemed to be more comfortable than a too-stretched out stride for me.

Toward the end, I was a mid-packer-ish mid-to-high 8-minutes per mile for a 5k or 5 miler.

And all of the above can be thrown out the window if I was kicking at the end of a race.

What conclusion would you have come to about me?

morning gang, did not even read the thread otehr than I saw the QOD.

Great weekend with the kids. saw Ratatouille (sp?) (funny), spent over 3 hours at Charles E Cheese (absolute riot and the kids actually ate their pizza), went to the Wacky Bear Workshop an the kids made a stuffed animal. Cool that even the 7 year old still though it was fun. he made a husky that he named Ghost Rider and put a spiderman costume on it.

Got home yesterday dreading my schedule long run (18-20 mile range). I went a smidge over 18 and it sucked...it sucked big. a little slow, but yesterday was about survival, not pace. My legs hate me today.

QOD I notice their mechanics of all things and then wonder if I look as smooth or as akward as them when I run. Oh and like competitive Maria, I have this weird thought of "Hmm I wonder if I could whoop their ass in a race"

None of this would matter if you were running without a shirt on

Re: Spring '08 Marathon - I have no doubt sis #2 will BQ in Chicago so I'll go there to support her and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do a destination marathon next year.

Frankie, how many nights will you be staying in Philly? I will probably only be there one night (Saturday). All this can get worked out in time...

QOD: Like many others, I tend to notice someone's speed first. And if someone is going faster than me, I am likely to try and pick up my pace if I can...
