Morning Kids!

Puppies make for early wake-ups. We've already been out for a puppy walk and had breakfast here. Mid-day run/workout planned after yesterdays excursion, I need a recovery workout.

Hope everyone celebrated safely and happily yesterday.

NO QOD from me, although I saw something later yesterday about tats? I'll leave it to you then. Hopefully I'll be able to check in later this afternoon.

Good days/runs/workouts to all of you.

Good morning. Yesterday's 4th of July around here got all kinds of wet.

I'm hoping I can figure out a patch of time today or tomorrow to do a bike ride. Doing some crosstraining with the bicycle has been very helpful, I think. Somehow it never feels like I get zoned in when bike riding like I do when running, though. Running is much more tactile, more sensuous, than cycling. I get to see more by swiveling my head about, I can hear more without the clutter of a breeze skimming off the helmet, I can feel the world so much more with it right under my feet and my legs rolling over the ground, I can smell and taste it in the grass, the oaks and maples, the honeysuckle.

Yeah, for me, running beats cycling for how rich the experience is for sensory feedback.

I'm looking forward to Saturday's long run. Just try to take it easy and take it all in.

Hi Jen, Scratch and all who follow...

I hope there were good fireworks and bbq for all yesterday! I believe some races went spectacularly and others were spectacular exhibits of big crowds and poor organization...good job to all, whichever was the case for you!

I had to fly to Cleveland last night - the (small) plus being I got to see fireworks all over the city from the airplane.

And today's the kind of day that I wake up excited for the run I'll squeeze in tonight. Cause I know it'll make me feel good.

Scratch - I like your running description - though I'm tempted to rewrite it as my experience. Cause I start to weave whenever I turn my head to look around while I run! Clumsiness aside, I think you nailed that sensation.

Have a good day, all!

No work for me, I'm still on vacation.

I'm sitting at the computera here at my sister's house, chatting with my 6 y/o niece, and enjoying the hi-speed internet connection. Yes, I still have crappy dial-up. Yes, I want hi-speed. Yes, there is a real, valid reason why I haven't switched yet, and I hope to resolve that issue in the next few months.

I just asked my niece what she wants to be when she grows up. She said a doctor. About a year ago or so, her answer would always be "a runner".

I SOOOOOOOO do not want to be at work today. I am pretty much the only one here from my project. Because of that, I have had a huge amount of work piled on me in addition to what I already had to do. Biggest issue with this plan of attack... I am now responsible for the work of someone whoisout for maternity leave. Yeah, you all KNEW when she was leaving, perhaps you could have planned better?!

Anyway, I didn't race yesterday, was pouring rain and I had to make a decision. There are a couple of hills on the course and I envisioned myself falling on my keester, days before my tri. SO I bailed. Of course by race time the rain had stopped. Oh well.

Had a fabulous 4th! Did the small town parade thing. Went to DH's family reunion, without DH, he had to work. But his family is great, had such fun! They play a very competitive version of croquet and it makes for good heckling. I refuse to play, I am a poor sport, so I just watch. I thinkthat is way more fun!

Ok, off to check out the other threads. I didn't participate in the whole "which forum" discussion but I have peeked around here a lot. I will need some time to get used to the change but I am liking this place! One glaring difference to me was the "nutrition" area is all about good advice and new fun foods to try, no bashing, no perpetuating EDs, good stuff!

Oh, last thing. I LOVE the men of the 30's idea! I will do anything I can to help! I have 2 favorite charities but would support just about any! And I would gladly hold a photo session by my pool!!

Tim, you know before I moved to NC - I lived in STERLING. Seeing you talk about RESTON, freaks me out and makes me happy. How often do you run on the W& OD trail? I trained for my marathon all over that thing. I miss it a little sometimes, and I really miss running from Thompson's Boat House downton to Bethesda and back to the Kennedy Center. That's where I did my long run.. ahhh. I'm feeling all nostalgic this morning b/c of one little post. Am I getting old or what?

morning all - no running yet today. I woke up with what felt like a hangover but alas..I didn't drink last night so I have no idea what is going on. Probably too much sun yesterday. Also, my legs were all crampy, especially my feet. Running after work.

It is, but Tuesday was kinda like Friday, so...2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in one week kind of cancel each other out.

We had a nice 4th. Had a playdate in the morning (the kids, not me) and in the afternoon went to a BBQ at some friends of DH's family. They are just lovely, lovely people and had gotten some very nice gifts for our kids and we had good food and my pie was a hit and all that.

I did, however, wake up at about midnight with some heart-pounding anxiety. Eventually fell asleep again, but the anxiety continues this morning. I was able to focus enough on getting the kdis and myself ready and getting myself to the train and, just as I was about to congratulate myself on getting even remotely close to normal, I thought: But it is still possible that I'm going to have a heart attack and die right here on the train!

Needless to say, I didn't, and being at work will likely help pull me out, although there are very few people here right now, so it'll be quiet.

Anyhow, that's it. Nothing about running, but don't expect that from me for a month or two...

Claire WELCOME BACK!!!! Regarding your running, maybe you can make sure you are getting out and getting a lot of walks in? I am not runnign now and getting in non-impact stuff (elliptical, stairmaster) so I do not turn into Mr. StayPuff.

4th Racers - impressive stuff

Scratch - sorry the organization sucked. You are gonna destroy that PR if you keep up your progress, so do not stress too much about it.

Moon - loved the pics - I really need to dig out someof my old climbing pics on the GGB.

Brandy - Hang in there. Slogging through hot humid miles in the worst summer weather will make a cool crisp fall marathon seem like a breeze.

Doc - Obviously crushing on your nephew

Nettie - Super photos. You have the best smile - infectious, just makes others smile.

Did not post since Tuesday. Ended up "camping" in our front yard Tuesday night. Me and the boys had a blast (DD was at a friends house for a sleepover). Set up the fire pit, ate some s'mores, slept in the tent (don't tell my chiro). And everyone actually slept in on Wednesday. DD#2 is usually up 5:30-6, and slept til 8 AM. We had a super low key 4th - we had the big stuff last weekend. Cut down a few dead trees, cleaned up weeds in the veggie garden, painted a bedroom.

30 mins on the elliptical this AM, followed by 30 mins on the stairmaster. Will ask chiro about running today.

Morning...

No running yet, but I did get out for a short (+/-) 4 mile bike ride this morning, but only about 21 minutes. Had taken the bike over to Mt. Pleasant (where the Bridge Run starts, Beth!) last night to meet up with my brother, and we rode out to a spot to watch fireworks. (Actually saw 5 different town's displays from our location...really really cool.) So I had to get the bike back out of the car and reassembled this morning anyway...

I may take my running stuff to work and get in a run tonight. We'll see how things go.

I'll check back in a bit.

Later taters!

Well, I'm just in town visiting my wife's sister and her family for the week. But, I'm sure that I will make many return visits. I'm training for the Marine Corps Marathon and of course, many in the Reston Runners are doing the same since it's kinda their home town marathon.

W&OD - Will probably do my first run on that trail tomorrow. My schedule calls for 10 miles. If I get on it in downtown Historic Herndon, which direction should I go in? Toward's DC or away from DC?

Tuesday, I did my run in the park trails on both sides of a creek near Herndon High School, and then finished up on the Herndon track.

I'm familiar with the area that you live in now too. My brother and his wife went to UNC in Chapel Hill, then they moved back to the area for a bout a year and lived in Cary, NC.

Good Morning Folks!

Another bright and lovely day in the Northland, at least that's what it looks like outside the office window. . .Tell me again why I didn't take today off?

Ah, it's all good, you all will keep me occupied and entertained until I can go home. Right? Right?! That is the plan for today, isn't it?

Thank you all, again, for the wonderfully nice words in response to my post yesterday. I do believe my life is better for knowing you all.

Wimmins We may indeed have to make this a 16 mo calendar - we have no Tims, KP, Scratch, Maples, Kris E. . .I'm just saying in the interest of fairness (and more great pics. . .) it's somethin' to think about is all. . .

G'morning folks.

Wow.. our post count IS down for the day. I'm sure it'll pick up before long, though.

The ankle has had some sharp 'ouchie' moments today already, so I am not a pleased critter. At least my bone scan is already scheduled for tomorrow morning. I'm SO ready to find out wtf is the underlying issue, so we can get it fixed, and be done with it. I just need to really up my H20 consumption today, as good hydration apparently makes the results better, somehow.

Will do upper body weights tonight.

It's a semi-ghost town here. All the 'big dogs' are out, of course. Of the five people that usually are on my side of the office, two are on vacation, one is workign from home, and one is out due to a family emergency. It "would" seem like a virtual ghost town, were it not for the fixxer-upper / painter guys just down the hall, and the noise they're making.

Ahh well. Maybe I'll get lucky, and they'll start painting, and then I"ll "have" to go home for safety reasons
