So, I'm up. All eager (well ok, I'm still draggin ass) for the run that I so sagely decided was not necessary yesterday since I was going today. And it's raining. I could take dark or raining, but I don't think it's smart to do both... Grrr. Perhaps I can do it tonight instead. I've got another 5 planned for tomorrow morning.

Solitude Nice story! You will NEVER find me doing one of those hypnotist things.

Amichel Thanks for the late night check in! How's DH? How's running?

OK, I have a QOD I thought about while reading the latest Runner's World. It talks about the different kinds of distractions we use as we run-

internal association- focusing onyour body, how it feels, breathing, etc

external association- focusing on the things going on around you- other runners, checking pace, etc...

internal dissociation- using self distraction like music, mantras, and mind games

external dissociation- using surroundings like scenery, chatty running partners, etc...

It said that competitive runners tend to associate more than dissociate.

So which one are you? I'm probably a combo of mainly internal dissociation with some external association going on...

Happy Friday!

Hmmm... perhaps this is why though i've been running for so long, I still suck. Clearly, I am too moon bat nuts to be a proper runner.
SO yesterday was supposed to be my Friday but since I work with dolts, I had to come in this morning!!! But will be leaving soon, have to head to the airport to pick up some super cool chick from Boston and then head to the mountains for girls weekend!

Had tri class last night. First time I ever used the pull bouy (sp?!) and I thought I would hate but I actually think it helped a lot! I felt really strong in the water last night, good stuff. Then we hit the spinning room. The people in my class are amazing! I have lived in my town for 3 years, gone to my community gym for 3 years. Never met one single person. Now I have all these great people to workout with! Love it!

Hey EQ glad you made ithome safe!

Not much time for anything else, just a belly rub for Shaggy (and anyone else who may want one!! ) and lots of luck to Solar for her tri!

Happy weekend folks!

Good morning gang...

Not much to report. I *was* going to go to the gym last night, but apparently all the lower body work I did on Wednesday with the trainer really kicked my tail, because all I could think about yesterday at work was "WHY didn't I bring my 'Stick' to work so I could roll out my quads and glutes while there was no one in the store?" So needless to say, I was not at the gym after work. I know I would have actually felt better had I gone and gotten the blood moving, but I just couldn't do it. I will have to see about tonight because I'm supposed to get together with my friend Beth and catch up...See, this is what happens when I procrastinate. Grrrr....

To all the 30's meeting up in...wherever you're meeting up...have fun! It sounds like a blast. Pictures??? I'm just sayin'...

Must get some Cheerios. Have great days everyone!

Later taters.

Morning, all--

Thanks so much for all the support yesterday. I'm feeling a little better this morning, and (good news alert): my friend is becoming a citizen today! So, there's plenty to celebrate in this world, and his family's story puts my life into a little bit more perspective. I'll be fine. I sincerely do appreciate the love, though. It was much needed.

No run this morning. Supposed to do OHR w8d3 (49 minutes), but I put too many bad things in my stomach last night and stayed up too late doing stuff for me that I didn't feel well enough this morning. This is probably good because we're going out to celebrate his citizenship, and knowing that I have to get up and run will help me have serious restraint. I'll get the run in tomorrow. I did walk home about 2 miles last night to clear my head. Note to self: don't walk home in 80* with jeans and regular shoes.

Happy days to all!

Mornin' gang!

I'm back from New Hampshire! Mom and I had a great time at the NASCAR races. And shopping too, of course. With the dollar being so strong and no tax in NH, we got some really great deals. I picked up two of my favourite running bras for less than the price of one here. And a new running skirt, which I tried out last night. Wicked! It's actually labelled as a tennis skirt, but it works great for running. The material is all flowy and it's super comfy. Got a pair of casual Skechers, too.

I got a team for the Rum Runners Relay next weekend! I put my name on the waiting list because there's always someone looking for a runner. It'll be a fun time!

QOD: I tend to let my mind wander while I run. It helps clear it out.

Good morning. Glad it's Friday, I'm tired from my week, but it's a satisfied tired because in general things went pretty well for the start of a quarter.

Had my first class last night. I'm taking a science fiction literature course. I can tell it's going to be fun, but I'm glad I'm taking it pass/fail. I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to school, and I've never taken a proper literature class where we actually have to write papers about what we are reading. I'm so used to APA-style writing and have no clue about MLA-style.

QOD- I do all those things, it depends on the type of run. Speed workouts, 5K races, etc, I tend to pay attn more to how my body feels, breathing, etc. Long runs tend to be when I'll let my mind wander onto other things, unless I'm having a rough run. I do a lot of thinking about those things that bother me, and try to come up with ways of solving the problem. Don't often listen to music, unless I expect that it will be a bad run and want to have some external distraction.

Good morning. Nice to finally reach Friday.

The forecast is calling for summery sort of weather this weekend, I better make sure I get up and do my long run tomorrow early as possible.

It had been a long time since I had last had tacos or burritos last evening when I made the tacos. Forgot to grab some refried beans to make burritos, but it came to me in the market yesterday when I saw the taco shells -- there ought to be some of them made with corn flour and gluten free. Sure enough, I found them, so that's how they became last night's dinner. They'll likely make more regular appearances.

Oh yeah, soft shell. If you're going to have a taco or burrito, it has to be soft shell. Right?

For me, burritos are always with soft tortillas. Tacos, though, can be either soft or crunchy. Depends on my mood, but if I'm using corn tortillas, I prefer them crunchy.

Good morning all! I'm not sure what my running schedule will be today-Sunday, I need to make some adjustments and there was no way in h-e-double hockey sticks that I was getting up to run 17 this morning before work. So we'll see. Good news is that yoga reallllly helped the other night and my recovery + strides run last night got me back to feeling like MP is a very comfortable one. Which is nice.

Hello Amy - good to see you checking in last night.

Solitude - love your stories!! What did you feel like afterwards? i.e. as if no time had passed or with some/any memory?

QOD - Depending on the type of training run I may employ a variety of internal & external associations and disassociations however when racing these days I do periodic check-ins with myself (int. assoc.) and utilize some ext. disassoc. via a soft unfocus on scenery. For my upcoming marathon I've been rehearsing staying away from internal disassociations and instead using my energies to focus on the task at hand, staying relaxed, staying sharp and visualizing the result I want.

Public Service Announcement.

An actual burrito is always made with a soft, flour tortilla which is usually lightly grilled or steamed.

If the burrito is fried it then becomes a chimichanga.

I like both my burritos and tacos with a soft exterior - if I'm looking for crunchy, my answer is chips. Always look to the [salty] chip.

I am extremely jealous of this girls weekend going on, Have a great time!! Take some pics to share with us all!

I had 5 miles on tap last night, walking, but I was outta time so I ended up running one of them, and still only made it to 4.5. Now I know why I like to run, I can get so much more accomplished in a less amount of time. Tomorrow is 4 miles running, I am really unsure how I feel after this. My knee is still feeling wonky!

QOD- I am not sure, I think about everything when I am running.
Later!

morning!

I slept through my alarm this morning - well, actually I repeatedly shut it off (same thing right?). I will be running after work.

Hawk: Yeah, some bad storms. We were spared any big issues other than localized street flooding. It was interesting trying to get home last night.

QOD: I do all of those things as well. I didn't like that article much. And that one on how to have the best finishing photo? Excuse me, but I am stopping my watch the millisecond I cross the line.

Friday HELL YA

okay need some suggestions. work has been wild. missed my run yesterday and had to be here early, so no morning run. I am going to run aftr work for sure, maybe 8 east miles. However, if i wait til then to run today I may explode. I have time for about 20 minutes of running over lunch so between 2 and 3 miles.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to spend these 20 minutes, knowing I want to go 8 after work . Casual jog, 2-3 miles of with a bunch of strides, fartlek...

shower your wisdom upon me people...

QOD
I use all of above, but my main mode of distraction would be internal and external association. early a run I am slave to my garmin to monitior pace, track other runners, pick people off and pass them etc. as I progress, I shift to monitoring how my body feels.

later taters
