Started this morning at 6 a.m. in sub 50 weather with only a breeze. wore a very light tech long sleeve. 12 miles ez at 8:23 avg. Two incidents to report this morning. about mile 7-10 we were running thru our "red light" district and three of us running met two young girls who had to be middle school or early highschool walking towards us. We greeted them and then 10 steps later one shouts our asking if we wanted a certain sex act performed. I hope they were kidding and pretending but it was long before sun up and who knows where they'd been or where they were going. If someone wanted to force themselves on them; they would have been defenseless. Secondly just as we finished the run one of the guys bent down and picked up a $50 bill off the street. I didn't even see it. He had an "appointment" so he didn't even offer to buy breakfast. :(

dw is as sick as I've ever seen her with a head cold. So I don't have anyone to play with this afternoon. Watering the yard and watching football.

Checking airline prices to Knoxville in the spring. $130 per person cheaper if I drive to S.A. and fly rather from home. $260 bucks difference, plus a free place to stay, plus seeing dd makes the choice pretty easy.

hope you all have a greta day.

My first thought too was that those incidents were somehow related

This morning I watched our high school girls team win the regional meet in their division to advance to the state meet next week.

Our boys missed going by one place and our top runner also missed by one place as an individual. This particular course

is not very spectator friendly without a lot of running. I turned on my garmin and stuffed it in my pocket. Six races later I had

covered 9.91 miles between running and walking!! It was well worth it though to watch all the races unfold up close.

Good morning kicksters. I somehow strained a muscle in my upper back sleeping last night so I had to bail on the race today.

It feels like one of those things that take 2 or 3 weeks to go away so I'll be hitting the eliptical a little more for a while. I think it might have been the

leaf raking or weed eating I did yesterday. My back muscles are always screaming when I do that.

((Rip)) Sorry you missed out on a race. You're smart to ease up and let the back pain subside though.

The Spooky 12K was loads of fun - hilly but not too bad. The rain held off and the trail was not very muddy either due to the forest canopy. The last mile was a little "technical" - narrow, twisty, short up/downs, leaf-covered surface roots laying in wait - one tripped me, but I didn't fall. My finish time was 1:15 Since I had no expectation of how I'd do, and I'm quite happy with that. I would need to do some more hill work to be able to run any faster on that course.

MTA: only one trouble spot on the trail where the arrows pointed right, but there was a tree limb laid to block that route off. I stood around for a few minutes (on the clock) trying to figure out what to do. I finally continued on in the opposite direction of the arrows, which ended up being correct. So 2 out of 2 trail races have found me wasting time wondering which way to go.

Funny how that happens, eh?

Sorry you had to bail.

Today's ~8K race was as gnarly, wet, muddy and fun as promised. I started in the 4th wave (of 10). Waves went out in reverse order of speed, with an added twist of different distances for the various groups. Within the first 2K we hit our first river crossing. Took the wrong line and hit a hole.... and wound up in cold water to my upper thighs... brrr. Oh, did I say how cold it was..... -2°C when I left home and a balmy +4 at start time. Much of the course was on barely discernable trail and the hills in and out of the ravine were so steep as to require hands either down on the ascents or grabbing trees or ropes on the declines. The last big hill had a rope to pull yourself up.... I lost my footing half way and almost slid back down. We had lots of mud and several more water crossings. With about 2K to go, the fastest runners, who went out last, blew by me on the single track trail like I was walking. At least I got a chance to see them run, if only for a few seconds. Wood gazelles indeed!

I have no idea how I placed, but it was a total blast. We all dropped our muddy shoes at the door of the hosting school, got our after-race food and watched the awards barefoot. Lots of door prizes were handed out , but as usual I wasn't lucky.

Still trying to figure out how I wound up with leaves stuck to my rear end... UNDER my tights!

Hi HF.... sounds like you had a terrific time, too!

I'm jealous HF and Heme!! Those trail runs sound like a blast.

I'll see how my back feels tomorrow but it may be a few days instead of a couple weeks as it only

hurts if I twist too fast.

I hit the eliptical for a race simulation run. When I am workiing pretty hard, I try to avg 5 minute pace for an hour.

Today, I wanted to extend that to 18 miles in 90 minutes. I did the first 6 miles in 30:30 and the second 6 in 29 minutes.

The last 6 was my fastest and that took 27:20 for a total time of 86:50. The bottom of my feet were really hurting so I stopped at

18 instead of doing the whole 90 minutes. Felt good at the end.
