Morning Gang -

Great pictures Kath! Looks like a fun time was had by all.

Ultra big congrats to Maria on finishing her first ultra! Can't wait to hear all the details.

Lora - so glad your running filled weekend was good. It is so great to finally have you back to normal with your running!

Brandy - I think i'm gonna skip the Ron Daws too. I am doing Earth Day 20 miler in a few weeks (as training run, not really racing it). Are you doing the HM that day? Is Baggs?

Nice weekend of running with 1st places, AG awards, and 23.6 mile runs!

5 miles done today in 15 degrees. I'm really really hoping this is the last of the cold morning runs. Warm up forecast for later this week.

Good runs to all.

Morning all!

Love love love the photos, Kath.

I slept in this morning. Hammies are a bit tight and legs overall sort of sore from the weekend. I have a DR appt. this afternoon and plan to do a short recovery run after that.

Cindi I am with you on hoping Spring comes soon. We had cold temps and vicious winds all weekend.

Ugly running attempt this morning, but managed to get in just over 3 miles between two different treadmills and the indoor track. First treadmill was too noisy.

There's a charity 5K on Saturday that I would like to do, but I have 11 mile long run on the schedule. Still debating and working on the schedule for the rest of the week to decide what is best.

5.3 miles this morning. If anyone knows when spring is actually going to arrive, please let us know. Currently 25F here, warming up to a balmy 36F. Tomorrow it's at least supposed to break the 40F barrier.

Not really much fitnessing for me this weekend - too much to do with Kris arriving in a few days.

Congrats Mindi and Tim - anyone else race last weekend? Waiting to read how things went for Maria - based on Kath's pics, looks like a good time was had by all

Yes, we are both doing the HM that day.

Nothing yet for me run wise today. I had set everything out to go for a shake out 3 miler this morning but hit snooze for an hour instead. I was VERY tired I guess.

Weights last night were a bear. Man, I could tell immediately that my legs were trashed and it was going to be a long day. youch. Grocery shopping afterwards was overshadowed by the need to not buy anything heavy :)

Running 3-6 after work.

Spring was last week. Didn't you get the memo? Apparently it was making a one week showing, then skipping summer and fall and going right back into winter this year...

I have the bike on the schedule today, but since today and tomorrow are going to be the only nice days all week, and I'm enjoying running these days (finally!) I may do a short run later today to soak in some vitamin D before hopping on the trainer for a miserable hour+.

The wind chill was in single digits yesterday when I did my long run. I still haven't warmed up yet. It isn't supposed to break freezing today, but we might see 40 by the end of the week along with some snow. I may not come back from our trip to Florida.

ok - Cindi - now coach says we can do Ron Dawes. I am checking to see if my main running partner wants to do it and then probably signing up. It should be a nice day. We'll be doing the first 6 -7 at LHR, next 5-6 at GRP and then cooling down the rest of the run.

Maybe Melissa come out to play?

Helllloooooo everyone!! Posting from Chicago Midway, while on a work conference call, and awaiting my flight to St. Louis. Cannot wait to be around my family for the entire coming week and attending the Cardinals home opener w/them on Thursday. Between this upcoming segment of my trip and the one that just ended (in Cleveland) I feel like one of the luckiest people around. The 50K was an unbelievable, awesome experience! The trails were challenging but fun and the weather could not have been better, high 30s and sunny w/little to no wind (although the volunteers undoubtedly felt different as they had to stand still - sorry but thank you all!). I seriously ran with a smile plastered on my face 90+% of the time or more. It was pure joy and such a different experience than a road race of marathon or other distance. The Northeast Ohio trail running community is amazing and so social and fun and giving. I instantly felt like one of the family and so very welcome. The course itself was gorgeous! A series of about 5 (maybe 6) trails all connected together in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park that made up a loop of 25K and so I ran it twice. The volunteers were superb and the course well marked as well as being an enjoyable mix of cross country trails, grassy trails, big climbs, big downs, and plenty of mud esp. the second time around the loop. My time was the absolute lowest of priorities to me, it meant absolutely nothing but it was 6:52. Despite the long hours on the course and the terrain I feel much less sore today than after a road marathon distance event, a little sore but not hobbling although sporting my compression socks on today's flights. My PF totally behaved as did my hammies, yay! Lloyd has set up a truly premiere race and I'd highly recommend it to anyone! Very organized, very fun and who wouldn't want a finisher mug crafted by our very own Kath!!??

Besides the race itself it was so wonderful to be able to spend time with Lloyd, Andrea, Kath and Kris - thank you all so much!

Lastly, it feels like this race, as I'd hoped it would, had injected some spirit back into my running that I'd love to parlay into a hard working spring and summer. I was looking at this race as a new experience w/out the pressures of past marathons and training cycles and it completely delivered! It didn't hurt that I felt the presence of Voo around me everywhere, I thought of him volunteering this race a few years back and running on the nearby "cushy" towpath.

Thank you all for your encouragement, inspiration and congratulations!!!

sharing a quote from one of my local running friends...because there's a lot of truth in this:

"The genuine marathoner is a rare breed indeed: half athlete and half poet; part rock-bottom pragmatist and part sky-high idealist; completely, even defiantly individual and yet irrevocably joined to a select group almost tribal in its shared rituals and aspirations."
