NOT FUN:

Walking into a dark kitchen and slipping on a puddle of pee. And when I turned on the light found a number of puddles.

Ok, he has an ear infection, and got a shot at the vet yesterday, but COME ON!!! Do the panic bark if you have to pee at 4am!

(Gus was barking up a storm for a half hour this morning, but it was the mad bark not the panic bark, so I didn't realize he was telling.)

Go easy on him. When I get an ear infection, the same thing happens.

Aw man... poor Jack. Look, I'l vouch for him. Most of the time he's a great dog. Really! You can't judge a pooch on a couple of puddles? Can you? Come on?

I'm feeling SO MUCH better! And i'm grateful for it. I'm jumping on a plane this afternoon and heading out to Sarnia, the armpit of the world. Or so they tell me. I haven't been there yet but every time I say I'm going someone groans or asks me if I've had my shots. Then on Sunday, it's off to Victoria BC. My project is near delivery and training ensues! Guess who's giving the training? It's a simple application, I should be fine. Coast Guard is not a bells and whistle type of establishment.

Morning, friends. I've unwittingly stepped in a pile of cat yak in the morning and it's unpleasant, so I sympathize, Kath. Hope Jack feels better.

I love hearing about people who make their own ice cream. I don't eat it enough to justify it, but I love when people don't have to rely on the grocery store for stuff like that. That's why I love making my own bread.

Safe travels, Winter!

I finished another cross-stitch project last night! And started the next. I'm finally done with baby bibs (temporarily) and now I'm making a picture for my nephews. It's Precious Moments, which I love, but apparently there are a ton of people in the world who think they're creepy. Thankfully, my sister isn't one of them, so I'm giving it to her to hang in the boys' room.

The painter came to my house last night to give me an estimate for painting the upstairs of my house (master bed and bath, half bath, kitchen, living room, dining room, a couple of hallways, the stairs and two ceilings). I was really nervous that he was going to charge a ridiculous amount of money, but it looks like my tax refund will more than cover the paint, supplies and labor, even with a ton of drywall repair. That made me really smiley!

Hi all - I was majorly dragging yesterday because of the lack of (quality) sleep beforehand. I got a better night in yesterday, but I could've easily stayed in bed another few hours.

In a somewhat sucky piece of news, my insurance won't cover the cost of the ultrasound until I spend the yearly amount on medical expenses to activate my deductible, which I'm nowhere near at this early in the year. I forgot to set up an HSA in the chaos that was December, so this cost is all coming out of my pocketbook.

Safe travels to you Winter and odor & liquid absorbing vibes to you Kath - I say boB whips up another batch of ice cream and we all share it today

Good Morning!

My office was moved yet again this week, so I'm still getting used to my new surroundings. I'm back to my original space from 12 years ago, albeit with new furniture. :)

Was Wippy's meeting today???

Poor Jack. Our older Lab will leak sometimes when she sleeps. Blech. They need to make some doggie Depends.

No news on my next meeting. My informal one was 2 weeks ago today and I was told I was 10 days out from a formal meeting, but I think last week's vacation messed up the schedule. Waiting stinks.

See if you can go somewhere other than a hospital. I heard a podcast about the price differences between Mom-and-Pop MRI places and hospitals and the difference was huge. I'll bet that ultrasounds are the same. It sucks that it'll come out of your pocket, but it might not be as hugely terrible as it currently seems.

I'm supposed to be screened today to see if I'm eligible to take part in a research study that will require me to engage in supervised exercise 5 dpw for 6 weeks; however, no one will return my e-mails to tell me where I'm supposed to go for the screening. I WANT to be in this study because I need the external motivation to get exercising again. I may not be overweight enough to participate, but this is the first time in my life when I hope I'm fat enough. But I won't know until they tell me where the meeting is. It's in 75 minutes. Bah!

Actually, that's what I'm doing, but I only have so many outpatient radiology places to choose from who are approved by my insurance company.

Another sucky thing is the place that would be most convenient to me is able to do the ultrasound but not the x-ray - wtf is up with that? I'm going to call another place to see if they can do both and/or do it at a cheaper price than my first option, but taking this option means cutting out of work (not that I really MIND getting away from work, but I've been sort of a proud collector of sick hours over the years)

Maybe Jack has an ear and bladder infection. Poor beebee.

Fun: Mila had a jazz concert last night. She played great, but what was really nice was that after they were done playing and the HS advanced band was on stage a bunch of girls between 7th and 10th grade all came up to socialize with her one after the other. It's so great to know that she has established herself at her new school.

Hi all! GREAT to see you!!!!

Fun news ---

tomorrow is the last class before Spring Break. Had a great class last night, then today got the GREATEST email from a student. He told me that in his 3 years of law school, this is the most engaged he has ever seen his classmates, that he has learned more than his other classes, and that I am the first professor to demand the sort of professionalism and accountability that he expected when he started law school.

Made. my. day. I'm having a ball teaching!

In other news -- Shaggy was having a problem with leaking while sleeping for quite some time. Every time she got up, I was mopping up pee. In the morning, I would do a barefoot search of the carpet, looking for the wetspot from the night. Not. fun.

Theia had asked vets about it a number of times. Blood tests, urinalysis, etc. -- led nowhere. Finally, she just happened to mention it to the vet the last time we took the dogs in. New vet. She told us it's a fairly common problem. (Theia had the chat with her, so she would have to give you the details).

Bottom line - she gave us a prescription. Shaggy takes 1/2 of a pill each morning. Problem SOLVED! So awesome.

That's awesome, Dave!! I have no problem believing you rock the classroom!

I always made a point to thank my exceptional grad professors too. Some classes were such a joke, but the ones that were good, were GREAT.

Dave- I have a file where I save copies of emails and letters like that. They make up for the students who are being real $hits.

Who asked about dog pee? Sorry, just scanned through really quickly.

The vet told us that it's VERY common for female dogs to become incontinent, especially if they've been neutered (or spayed? can't remember which refers to males and which to females). Apparently, because of the surgery, the sphincter muscle in female dogs becomes weakened. When the dog's bladder is full and she's lying down and/or sleeping, she does not know that she's not contracting and controlling her bladder the way she's able to when she's awake. So she wakes up in a puddle of pee. The vet prescribed a pill that seems to be doing the trick. Instead of 1-3 accidents per day, we've had 3-5 total in about 6 weeks. If you want me to find out the name of the pill, let me know.
