12 slow and easy dirt road miles for my cutback LR this morning in lovely 0°C sunshine. Saw 3 deer and the first red-winged blackbird of the season. Wind on the return trip took a bit out of me and I had to stop at the half way point to remove one of the two metatarsal pads from the right shoe. Feeling achy, lop-sided and the foot wan't very happy either. But it's done. Hope to get some answers from the sports med guy this week, cause the training program is taking a significant up-tick over the next 3 weeks, and I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to keep it together for the increasing LRs.

Hope to spend the rest of the weekend clearing up the garden beds and dealing with the mole hills. That'll keep the hamstrings loose!

OK - well, I feel guilty re-commencing posting when I am doing so little compared to you guys. Mind you, our goals are somewhat different at the moment,

After my long lay off, this week I managed a couple of little 2 Km runs to check that the gout was gone, and with no side effects, today I went and ran a road 2 miles (3.25 Km for me), at around 8:40 pace, which was absolutely fine, as I am carrying a lot of extra weight, and whilst the gout may have enforced my total shut down, the previous 6 months hadn't been much better :).

Best of luck to those racing this weekend, and I'll be watching out as I build up my strength and miles.

Afternoon all,

Perfect weather for St Paddy's 8K race this morning. I ran 8 very easy miles before the race. No real goal for the race especially with the run before the race, but when gun went off, I found a nice pace (7:30/mle) and stuck with it. Ended up finishing 2nd in AG with a PR (by 2 seconds). This was the final race in the OKC Running Club Triple Crown Series. Having finished 1stAG in the Deer Creek Classic 10K 2 weeks ago, finishing 7thAG in the Jack Rector 25K last weekend, and with the 2nd place finish in this weekends St Paddy's 8k; I won the Championship Trophy (1st) for my AG. I was quite suprised to win and ended up with a nice trophy. Also, the green beer at the finish festivities was nice too.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks, ksrunr! I thought of you on my run today. I was trying for an "easy" run after running pretty much two longish tempo runs this week and a hill workout. Figured an easy day was called for. But I feel so gangly and uncoordinated when I try to hold my pace down. I was thinking 8:45's would be good, and my first two miles were close, but after that I must've lost focus because mile 3 came in at 8:17. But you know what? That mile felt better than the first two. Maybe it was because I was warmed up, I don't know. But I remembered you saying if it feels like too much effort and your form falls apart, then don't do it. So I didn't. Overall pace for my 5.1 miles today was about 8:31, and those last three miles felt the best. Nice 20 miler for you, btw.

Hi Liam! I was thinking about you the other day, too! How weird is that? You were the one who originally created the Couch-to-5k program that was on CoolRunning, right? I was thinking so... A friend of mine wanted to use it and was surprised to see a cost involved at Active now. Glad to see you getting back into it. Argentina... hmmm, makes me think of Malbec.

Nice racing, Paul, and congratulations on the overall win!

Lots of 12 milers out here today. I'll do 14 or so tomorrow, just to throw a monkey wrench into things.

Hey, did I ever show you guys my moose pictures? These two (cow and calf, like a yearling) were in our yard a couple of weeks ago. And yes, we still have all that snow, but it's starting to pack down which is why the moose are spending more time in the roads and don't want to move off.

Nice moose pictures, Erika! Wow, Paul, Boston is going to be the icing on a very tasty cake. Your racing just gets better all the time.

I got in a short ride this evening after enjoying hanging out with the family all day. My foot feels like it's healing and I go for my follow-up Monday to find out the MRI results.

Hey Opie, I was wondering if and when you were back from your cruise... hope you had a great time!

Cute moose pictures, Ericka. We saw a bunny scramble across the street last night. Definitely a sign of spring here.

As like last weekend, I have 12-14 miles on tap for today. Usually I do my long runs by myself, but today I'm meeting the ladies I'm running the More half, so it should be interesting at best to run so long without music or zoning out to the company of just myself. It's going to be sunny and in the upper 30s/low 40s at 10am, IRC for sure.

Oops, it's Sunday, enough chatter here....

I appreciate that, and understand, but it's frustrating when I used to run those sort of times as a warm down after a hard race - Now its my Best pace.... Old age, and inactivity has a habit of catching up with me :).... But as I always have said when coaching, your pace is your pace, it's what makes us the runners we are. We can't all win an Olympic Gold, in fact, not many have at all - so we are all runners, and love it wherever we are on the road or trail...
