I sympathize KS re your H&H. For you down there it just goes on and on. High 50's this morning here and very pleasant. Glad to see you are running better.

4.4 brisk miles and a flex and core workout at the Y. My knee has been fine all week and I am declaring the problem over. I am relieved that it must have just been overuse from TCM and not some chronic problem.

Wow! Those Giants can hit the baseball can't they! What a series this is going to be. Spareribs

Good afternoon. I wore my HRM today, first time in a very long while, and I remember now why I stopped. It keeps beeping at me telling me my HR is too high! Quite annoying. I suppose I could change the setting, but I'm not sure what the logic is behind its nagging me to "relax".

10.7 miles

10:08 avg pace

157 AHR

I did notice when I first put it on that it was registering 48 or so. I thought it was broken. Heh.

OM, either change the HR Zones or turn off the beeper. With my "Old Guy Hearing" I can never hear mine beeping. It might not beep for all I can tell! I have a feeling a hearing aid is in my near future ...

5.5 easy but tired miles this morning at 9:17 pace. No energy but got the miles in fine. I just kept it nice and easy.

I guess I was asking what my zones should be. 160 didn't feel hard at all.

OM, it all depends on your Max HR. If your max is 190 - 200 (normal for many in-shape women), then 157 is an easy HR. If your max is 175 bpm, then it would be a little high for an easy workout.

There are several ways to determine max HR. Google it and see. Or just run a 5K race and push as hard as you can during the last 1/2 mile. That's what I do.

I think my hamstring would pop before my heart rate maxed, quite honestly, so I think I'll pass on the latter method, but thanks just the same.

I'm going to go with saying it's 195, just for kicks. Plus, I can't figure out how to turn the beeper off, so this should keep the Garmin quiet for a while.

Somebody should really start a new thread that doesn't have a harumphing west coast 19mph cyclist kicking it off. oh well.

OM, I say go with 200 for your MaxHR. Makes the math easier (and who cares if you're off by 5 bpm. None if us are that anal, are we? )

I tried the 10 miles with 7 miles at Steady State workout today. Last hard workout before my 15k on 11/7.

Goal pace was 7:15 to 7:30/mi. I started out at 7:31 for mile 1 (after the 2 mile warm up), then was at 22:30 (7:30 pace) when I hit 3 miles; turned and did the next two miles in 14:47, so I was doing a bit of a progression, even though I was heading into a slight headwind at that point; the 6th mile was when I hit the gusts - they must have just picked up at that point b/c my co-workers said they got inside before they started. Mile 6 was 7:48, way off pace, and I knew I was only going to be getting slower in that wind for the planned 7th mile; so I shut down and called it a day after 6 miles in 45:04; I walked for about a minute or so, then jogged a mile, and then felt good enough after that to do 100m strides alternating with 100m jogs, for about 1/2 mile; then I jogged the rest of the way in, feeling a whole lot better than I would have if I'd pushed it in, just to prove a point.

Best part of my workout was during mile 5 when I passed the couple that were biking together. I saw the guy look into his rearview mirror and give a little start, so I guess he was a little startled to see a runner overtaking him. I think the steady headwind was bothering cyclists more than runners.

What a cute little guy, Tammy. We should name him Ribsy.

Awww, is that Lucy von Sheltie? What a cutie.

Having the thread started by a grumpy cyclist in AZ is better than a sarcastic Alaskan, most days at least.

That's a hoot reading through the 2009 predictions thread. Thanks for bumping that, Tammy. Makes me miss Dtoce and Mustang Sally.

Spent the last two days in Anchorage at meetings that involved far too much sitting. Can feel a twinge in my lower back today. Bleh. I ran 5.3 hot miserable miles on the hotel treadmill yesterday morning. Today should've been a RAL but all my outdoor running stuff is still in a stinky damp pile in the washing machine. Loaded it all in there Monday and forgot to start it. Oh well. I'll RAW while dinner is in the oven.

OM, my max HR must be pretty high too because I can trot along in the upper 150's to low 160's with very little effort.

yes, that's Lucy von Sheltie. I found a few old threads, one of them being a daily and I just scanned through it primarily to refresh my memory on who was posting here a couple yrs ago that is no longer with us and the daily that I opened up just happened to be the one where Ribs got his first dog and posted a picture.

I miss dtoce also . . . and when you said you miss Mustang Sally I was confused for a bit and I thought "she's still here!" but then realized that my interaction with her is over at FB. When I go to FB, KR and RA, I sometimes get it all confused as to who I see where. . .

eta: my HR can be pretty high also. Resting is mid/upper 50's, but when doing an easy run, I'm in the 150's and during a race, I'm easily in the 170's. I actually don't even wear my HRM that often anymore. I did wear it for the Newport Marathon and was surprised that my average HR was right around upper 150's to low 160s'. Only a couple miles did it go in the 170's.

Tammy, I haven't worn my HRM in over two years. I figured I should try it out a bit and see where I am these days. I was surprised the battery still worked.

Must be getting old, as I've not been able to get my HR over 168, and that was walking up a really steep hill in a trail race a year ago. I mostly don't bother with wearing the monitor these days. Of course the resting HR of 43-ish might have something to do with it.

Cute pup, Tamster!

Not much for me today. The butt hurt a bit from yesterday's trot, and trying to zip around the building in my trail shoes today for our United Way "Amazing Race" competition didn't help. Worth it to see my hawt cycling buddy in marketing all dressed up in drag..... and good lord, the man has smoother legs than I do!!! Sheesh!

Finished off the day with ~45 minutes of spin biking.

I know my HR didn't go too high on my bike ride tonight, but it was fun! 8 min. warmup, 24 min. fartlek (Brooke gave me a choice between pedaling faster or higher gear), and 8 min. cooldown. 12.2 mph avg. during the fartlek, pedaling fast in low gears. Almost took a couple of people out in the park. I wish I had one of those cool bells like in Germany. Oh, I almost forgot. I wore my gray tights. That '09 prediction thread is a hoot.

Six easy miles in the evening rain. First four were right on 8:00/mi pace; last two were not. 7:53/mi average. AHR = 152. For reference, my max HR is 190 bpm.

Wow on the max heart rates. Mine must be closer to 175 because I am redlining when I get much above 160 for any length of time.

Hammered the eliptical for 50 minutes at level 12 and reached 11 miles. 3 more miles in a little under 16 minutes after a recovery break. I can't help myself from just going until I can't go anymore. I usually end up going at too hard an effort and can't complete the alloted time I wanted to do as it gets too hot. I watch my heart rate start in the 130s and keep creeping up until it gets in the 150s. When it hits 160, I know I am about done.

except for rip, you're a buncha dang hummingbirds in this forum. my halfmarathon race hr is 160, highest i've ever seen is 171 (at the end of a 5k and during an all-out 800m workout). marathon race hr is 155 or so, and when i'm going ez it's 120s.

11.5mi ez... ran some with a slow group at 11 min/mi, then some at 7:15/mi... so quite a mix of paces. with the cycling this morning i'm pretty toasted.
