Somebody should really start a new thread that doesn't have a harumphing west coast 19mph cyclist kicking it off. oh well.

OM, I say go with 200 for your MaxHR. Makes the math easier (and who cares if you're off by 5 bpm. None if us are that anal, are we? )

I tried the 10 miles with 7 miles at Steady State workout today. Last hard workout before my 15k on 11/7.

Goal pace was 7:15 to 7:30/mi. I started out at 7:31 for mile 1 (after the 2 mile warm up), then was at 22:30 (7:30 pace) when I hit 3 miles; turned and did the next two miles in 14:47, so I was doing a bit of a progression, even though I was heading into a slight headwind at that point; the 6th mile was when I hit the gusts - they must have just picked up at that point b/c my co-workers said they got inside before they started. Mile 6 was 7:48, way off pace, and I knew I was only going to be getting slower in that wind for the planned 7th mile; so I shut down and called it a day after 6 miles in 45:04; I walked for about a minute or so, then jogged a mile, and then felt good enough after that to do 100m strides alternating with 100m jogs, for about 1/2 mile; then I jogged the rest of the way in, feeling a whole lot better than I would have if I'd pushed it in, just to prove a point.

Best part of my workout was during mile 5 when I passed the couple that were biking together. I saw the guy look into his rearview mirror and give a little start, so I guess he was a little startled to see a runner overtaking him. I think the steady headwind was bothering cyclists more than runners.

What a cute little guy, Tammy. We should name him Ribsy.
