Good morning!

3 plus Leg Circuits last night. Tonight should be a bike trainer ride, but I'll be at work until at least 8pm. So I don't really see that happening.

Nice work, people! <<< Ohm vibes to BigG.>>>

Tonya, I'll work out at 8 p.m. if you will. Deal? I have a meeting at 6 that will likely go until close to 8.

I did 4 awesome fartleky miles (plus other stuff) last night. Best run in a while.

Best inner peace wishes to BigG.

I hate getting chaffed in bad places.

Yeah for Theia's awesome run.

Easy run for me yesterday. Today I'll do a longer tempo run. I guess it'll be on the TM. It's a nice, but cold day today, so I could run outside. However, I don't like doing speedwork in the streets, and there's still too much snow on all the tracks and parks. So it's still TM for speedwork for now...

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm looking to find a marathon for June or July. This isn't easy, because it's typically pretty warm throughout most of the country at that time of year, and there aren't many marathons available. Right now, I think my leading candidates are the Marathon to Marathon (Iowa) on June 11, or the Missoula (Montana) Marathon on July 10. Both would be new random states for me, so they should fit well. Problem is, they're both in the middle of nowhere, and would require non-nonstop flights to a small airport, and then maybe a drive for a couple hours. I started poking around, and Summer flights to small airports (Missoula, Spokane, Helena or Sioux City, Omaha, Des Moines) would be REALLY expensive. I even looked at flying to Minneapolis for the Iowa one. That's a hub for Delta/Northwest, so I thought that might mean cheaper flights. It would require a fairly long drive to Marathon, Iowa, but it was worth a peek. And even that was really expensive! Dang, I knew rising fuel costs were making airfares more expensive. But sheesh, this is rediculous! I still want to finish the 50 states by the time I'm 50. But it might be harder to do if I can't travel as often as I want because of the costs... Ack.

Morning all! Today is a yoga day, will get to the studio after work and get my Big G-like ohm on.

boB - do you have a CA marathon already? I forget, think you may have run SD. If not, you should run San Francisco at the end of July!

Bob, that sucks. Airfare is ridonkulous. Any chance you could combine a trip to one of those states with something else to make a vacation out of it? For example, fly somewhere nearby, visit family or friends for a few days, do your marathon, etc..... Or is there anything near the marathon in Montana that's worth seeing? (My knowledge of geography is pathetic.) Is that near any landmarks that Maggie and Jillian would want to see? So you spend a week sightseeing and driving around the area in addition to running the race?

I had signed up for San Diego in 2008, but bailed after I broke my ankle. So no CA yet. Yeah, I looked a San Fran. But I think I'm gonna save it for another year. San Fran (or just about any marathon destination in CA, actually) would be somewhere I could bring the wife and kid for a vacation. But since DW just started a new job last week, she won't have vacation time in July. I also looked at Seattle (June 25) but decided against it for the same reason. I figured I'd stick with a location that she has no interest in ever visiting...

I actually had a good speed session last night!

2 mile warm up

600 at interval pace (8:10)

300 recovery

1.5 mile at GRP (4 laps - 837,843,852,849 pace)

600 recovery

600 at interval (8:17)

1 mile at GRP (3 laps - 846,854,834)

1 x 1 min at mile then finish up the half lap (probably was low 720s for this before letting up -807 pace with the finish)

2 mile cool down

I felt way better than last week but not great (lady issues and ankle started to hurt during the cool down)

hopefully 6+ tonight - it is going to be COLD

Woot for Brandy's excellent speed workout. Last night to brave the cold, then it should be warmer for at least 10 days. Woot!

I used to live in Billings, boB. That's where I first started running, for Lewis and Clark Jr. High School!

I got 10 miles done on the TM. 6 of them hilly. Super fun! Seriously. I'm starting to sort of like that thing, because it allows me to get in workouts that I normally couldn't b/c of cold, ice, etc. I have noticed that I get hotspots on my feet with the TM though.

Bob - I did Marathon to Marathon. I drove there from Chicago. It was 8 hours which is likely entirely too long of a drive after a flight. It was a really quaint race though and they bus people out to various places to cheer for you, so that's nice.

RFTL, I didn't know you lived in Montana. Billings is about half a million miles from either Missoula or Choteau, though. Dang, that's a big state.

Nettie, I'm sure I knew at one point that you did that race in Iowa, but I certainly didn't remember it. After seeing the plane ticket prices, the thought briefly crossed my mind about looking at Chicago. I don't mind road tripping. But that would be an AWFULLY long way to drive after a flight, as you say. And then, worse, driving that far after running 26.2 miles and before another flight. So overall you give M2M a thumb's up?

Bob - Yeah I enjoyed M2M a lot. One of the founders (I hope she's still alive, she was about 90 I think when I did it) personally gives you a medal at the end. And the HS kids they get to cheer you on seem genuinely happy to be doing it. So overall, great atmosphere. Lodging was also cheap. I stayed at a motel which was the cleanest and most well kept motel I have ever stayed in.

On the way back in, I actually drove 4 hours. Stayed in Des Moine overnight. Then drove 4 more to get back to Chicago. So, if you have the time that's a good way to break it up.

It was the most appealing option at the time. Country music (Nashville marathon) would have driven me crazy, and I wasn't interested in the 3rd choice. And when else would I have an opportunity to run one in Montana?

nice workouts peeps!

boB, would taking the train from an airhub make any sense?

I called in sick again today (more in the fun thread on that), but my sis convinced me to go to a cardio/sculpt class with her. Oof. I kept up ok (and I appreciated the instructor, she really only used about 8 moves, nothing really dance-y.) I wasn't the only one who had to pause a few times in the class, which made me feel better about how out of shape I feel. Plus, I haven't been eating, so no doubt that made everything harder.

But that's the only Full Martahon you've run, right Kath? You live in a state that's got like 50 marathons every year, and you chose to go to Montana for your one and only Full. That's just weird to me.
