Morning all! Working into Sat. morning and I've had some time on my hands tonight so I've been going through a book I have on running and making notes. I feel like I'm in College again! I've highlighted and written all over my book. The nurses in my pod were laughing at me but I don't care! I'm gonna have some kind of game plan going into this year.

Yesterday I did 3 miles on the TM at the gym. I have a short gym rant. I dislike greatly the first few weeks in Jan. at the gym because there are way too many people there. I seriously want to say, you know you're not gonna be here in two weeks, get off my TM! But I was nice and I didn't trip anyone or say a mean word. I've been trying to run outside as much as possible anyway.

Hope you all have a good morning and good runs/workouts today.

Healing vibes sent out to those that aren't feelin' so great.

It's a new day, knock it out of the park!

Good morning Tiff and those who follow!

It has been really crowded at my gym too. Getting on a TM hasn't been much of a problem, but the weight area has been packed with people who need a little bit of guidance (not from me).

Going out for 3 today. My legs are done. I had my long run and then had a game last night. We really need more people on my team. No breaks for the 4th game in a row.

Have a great day!

You guys are right, the gyms do get really crowded in January with the New Years Resolutions people. It amazes me that this happens every year. Is it the same people who decide to get in shape every January, only to peter out by February? If so, you'd think they've learned by now that it just ain't gonna stick...

I haven't run in two days. Too many things going on. So I'm getting quite antsy to head out for today's long run. I'll be looking to do 20ish, so that should make up for a couple days off.

I've only been skimming the thread the last few days... Is anyone racing this weekend?

Moon, sorry about your toe! Are you okay to pound on the bike and do some serious swimming?

6 recovery miles today...I have a 5k tomorrow. I'm already nervous about the pain. They hurt, they hurt right away, they hurt bad. This got me thinking to my first 5k a little over a year ago. I took my time, relatively speaking, was chatting with DH during the first mile and didn't feel like I was going to throw up for the entire last half of the race...good times. I had no idea I was supposed to be going all out for three miles and not slow down in spite of extreme discomfort...good times.

I have no real expectations for the race, I'm curious to see where my speed is at after the marathon. My knee has been funky still, sometimes it hurts horribly then, a few hours later it's just fine. If it's hurting too much, I'll be forced to take it really easy.

Since football is now dead to me (not really, I'll still watch, I'm sure). It was time to change up the avatar. The St. Bernard is embarrassed to be a Vikes fan who somehow got swept up in the last half of the season and somehow got hope. She's a cruel mistress.

Anyone else racing this weekend? Good runs to all!

I'm suppose to get 4 miles in today but I'm not sure I'm feeling up to it. I'm such a baby when it comes to being sick. I'd rather rest and do my long run tomorrow.

Good luck on your 5k Jen!

Moon, good vibes to ya!!

Congrats Amichel!!!!!!

I wanted to knock some people's heads together at the gym yesterday, too. It's still not recommended that I run, with the injury and all. There was someone on the elliptical that I usually use (lest that sound really picky, there is one one of the type that I use) and she hadn't signed in. So, I sign in for the one treadmill that is free, thinking I can at least walk or something, but by the time I got over there, some kid was using it. So, I see the woman get off my elliptical and I start over to the board to sign up, and when I turn around, her 8-year-old daughter is using it. Man, I was grumpy.

It seems like the gym staff, knowing that a lot of these people aren't going to stick around, sort of become lax about enforcing rules (e.g., sign up for machines, 8-year-olds can't use this equipment, etc).

That said, I did join a gym in January a few years ago, but that's because I had gotten the money for it for Christmas. I stayed. Maybe others will as well.

Anyhow, I did ellipticize yesterday. Today...unclear. Tomorrow is Spin.

Hmm, maybe that coupon will prompt me to register for that San Diego marathon earlier than planned. (I still don't think Madison will be doable). Anyone else thinking of doing San Diego? I know I asked before, but I can't remember if anyone answered...

And by the way, Amichel, my first reaction when I read your post was to think that you had the baby... Um, not yet, right? When are you due?

I'm back from my club run.

I got to "lead" one of the groups today. We went out for 8 miles in the high 7s to low 8s.

Nice run but cold.

Also picked up some new shoes at the store afterwards at a huge discount - club perk. Got me some ASICS Kayano 14s. Nice.

Was thinking about running this morning, but my cold is now in my throat (on its way to my chest, I'm sure), so I decided not to push it and walk the 4 mile round trip to school today. I should finish and print another dissertation chapter today (Hooray!), and the 4 miles will make me feel like I accomplished a lot today. I'm hoping that tomorrow's warmer weather will make me feel more comfortable about running. I probably won't push it too much since I've taken this week off so far, but I got on the scale this morning and it was nicer to me than it's been in a while, so that makes me more interested in being active.

Moon, I'm sorry to hear about your toe diagnosis. I hope this won't derail you for long.

Good runs this weekend, everyone, and good luck Jen on your 5k!

Wow. Great run this morning. We're having a heat wave (all of 35*), so this is the first time in a long time my nose hairs didn't freeze the second I walked out the door.

Did have a startling moment though... Gus suddenly launched & jumped 6ft up a tree trunk to get at a squirrel. Generally I only watch out for them on the ground, but I guess I should keep an eye on up-a-tree-but-within-jumping-height too.

Thanks for the coupon Amichel- I was thinking about possibly doing that...although I'm not sure I can be ready- my base right now is not so good. Maria, you did RnR, right? Thoughts? It's only an hour and a half from me, so it would be easy enough to get there...and it sounds like Bob may be there as well! Sorry to hear the toe news Moonie.
Nettie- you're coming to Surf City right? I had hoped to do the half but am not ready...I'll come down and see you guys though.

I need to get to the gym for some cross-training. I hope these NY resolutes don't go on Saturday mornings, too, or else I'm going to be pissy.

Jen, good luck on that 5K tomorrow! (((Jen's knees)))

GatorBob, I'm about to get my CA marathon in next month, so no San Diego for me.

Forgot. Former co-worker Andy called yesterday and asked if I'd be on a 5-man relay team for Glass City. I'd been considering running half of it, but there isn't a separate half, only a 2-man relay. And I don't know who would do the other half.

So I think I'm going to tell him I'll do it, but that I want the 4th leg so I can run from my house to that exchange point* and then run my relay leg, which would end just around the corner from my house. So I could still get 11-12 miles in that day.

morning. I am waiting to run until I have clean garments. Sigh. I thought DH washed them last night. He washed his. what a brat :p

12 on tap today. Leave for Florida on Friday. Weights in my gym tomorrow along with some biking. My gym is a small one (not a mega thing) and it hasn't been too bad since new years. maybe 5 extra peeps there or so. Max number of people I have seen there is 20...so that is a big increase I guess!

1!! And I work in the gym, so I really should be more gracious and welcoming... I guess when it comes down to it, I'm a selfish biotch. Now we know.

I had to do my run on the treadmill today b/c I forgot my inhaler. I had all my stuff packed up so I could run after class but had to stay in. Bleh. I didn't even attempt to go out; I had an asthma attack at my friend's house last night and was dealing with pretty significant allergies all morning, including during my class. Bleh again.

BUT, it was a fantabulous run!!! THANK YOU to whoever sent me the good running mojo! (Can I borrow it again next Sunday? I have my first 10 mile race! Well, the first one I'm actually going to finish, anyway.)

(((Moon's toe)))

AMY! You can't drop a bomb like that and then disappear! I'm with Bob... did you have the baby? Or just find out the sex? Congrats either way!

Good luck tomorrow, Jen!

Not sure who saw this yesterday...

I just shared all the same info with IronHubby, who said, "You're obviously not racing hard enough. Or you just have a really low tolerance for pain. Either way, you obviously can race faster than you are."

I knew I shouldn't have told him!!!!
