It was o'dark thirty when the alarm went off. After several battles with the snooze alarm, the runner dragged his tired butt out of bed, knowing that he had to get a run in.

He checked the weather and realized it was going to be a good day to run. After tracking down his shoes, socks, shorts, and due to weather even a shirt he went outside.

While waiting for his Garmin to synch up he wondered why he did this to himself. Oh well, to late now, time to get going. He looked at his watch, saw it was ready and he he hit start. His legs felt a little tired from the run yesterday and his brain felt tired from the beers, wine and champagne from the night before. He tried to hit his zone-out mode early. It must have worked since he had his head down and almost ran into another runner coming in the other direction.

His legs start moving faster and faster, his heart is now pumping harder. His breathing is still pretty controlled. He feels suprising good. Oh wait he has only gone a 1/4 mile, lets see what happens at the end.

He makes the turns out of his neighborhood and starts counting off the sidewalk blocks. He gets passed by lots of cars that he assumes are heading out to the post christmas sales. He remembers that he has to get out too since both of his DVD players are acting up. He re-focuses on his run. He keeps his head down. He has noticed that when he looks at the ground instead of the horizon he seems to run faster. :shrug5:

He makes another turn that would normally be a split marker for him but he wants to just run hard until the end of his run. He works hard to concentrate on keeping his head down and his feet moving. He can feel the sweat rolling down his face and soaking his shirt. His feet and legs are starting to hurt, his shirt is soaked and his lungs are working harder now. He tries to pick up the pace. He is pushing the pace.

The sun is slowly trying to break through the clouds, the runner keeps on putting one foot in the front of the other and repeating. He tries not to think about anything else except completing the run. He checks the distance on his watch and puts his head back down. The runners feet and legs are still hurting, his lungs are complaining, his body is sweating but he pushes on. His brain is winning the battle today.

He glances back at his watch to check his distance. It is almost time to take his first split. He makes a guess on the landmark and drops his head again. He pushes on. The legs are still moving fine, his lungs are still hurting but he can handle it. Sweat runs into his eyes, he wipes his eyes. His landmark is coming up. He double checks his watch, readjusts his landmark and pushes on.

The landmark is fast approaching. As he comes up on it, he fumbles with his watch to find the split button. Dang this running in the dark. As he passes the landmark, he hits the split, raises his hands in triumph and then goes Oh Sh!t, I still have a 2 mile run to get back home. As he runs home, he wonders why he agreed to do this virtual 5K. Was it the idea of winning a bikini picture? Or was it just for the fun of it.

The runner lumbers on at a slower pace. He finally returns home and says, Thank God! Is it to early for this: ccasion5:

Now all he can do is wait for the other runners to finish their race and see how they did.

Official Results:
3.11 miles in 22:44 for a 7:19/mile pace
Total Distance Run:
5.21 miles in 39:50 for a 7:39/mile pace.

Have a great race everyone!

It was an interesting night to say the least. During mile 9 I slipped and nearly fell because, despite the fact that I was on the sidewalk, some idiot felt compelled to blow the horn at me.

Then during mile 10, some teenage punk decided to pick a fight with me and tried to jump me. He took one look at me, said oh shit and ran like a scared girl.

Conditions were pretty good except for those couple of issues.
Run Segments
Don't know if you wanna take Mile 3, 4, and 5, and then take 1/10 of the time for mile 6, ie, 50 seconds. That would be what, 24:50? Hardly impressive.
