Good morning, My Pretties!

Fun: I taught myself to k n i t a few weeks ago. I say k n i t loosely because, I don't think what I'm doing can be called knitting yet. Last night I finished my first attempt at making something real. I made a scarf, of course. It's ugly as sin. It's uneven in places, and it's got one major whole and 4 noticeable boo- boos, but I loves it anyway.

Fun: DS#3 wants to go to the craft store today to buy himself some knitting needles and wool with his Christmas money.

not fun: Mancold Alert! It's been kicking my butt for the last few days and now it is all coming out of my chest.

Hope you all are doing fine!

morning friends

I'm feeling a bunch better except for some anxiety about my house burning down while I'm gone this weekend.

my drier quit last night and while the motor was still going and running on the belt the belt wasn't moving and the drum wasn't moving. I caught it because I was in the room right next to where the drier is and it was smoking up a storm so for a while my house smelled like toast. I unplugged the drier and moved it away from the wall to make sure there was nothing still smoking back there but I have this fear that somethings smoldering and it's going to light up when I'm gone. There was no smoke this morning or anything like that so I know it's all in my head but I don't think I'm going to sleep until I get back home.... which may be Sunday instead of Monday now. Stupid stuff that happens to me.... oh and I have to buy a new drier.

please tell me it's all in my head.

Good grief, it SUCKS being at work. All of the people we are doing work for are OUT today. Bastages.

However, it looks like we all might get tomw off! yeh! we're working our asses off to ensure we don't have to come in tomw.

We were given a pizza lunch today, which was a gesture at least. (I can think of one gesture I'd like to give back.)

Ya know what I love when you're told you have to come into work on a holiday? When they say stuff like, "well, you can wear jeans." Like THAT'S going to make up for having to come in.

I <3 Winter too! THIS Winter, OUR Winter. Not the winter that has laid out a blanket of 40 inches of snow and is now going to pelt us with freezing rain and oyeah, MORE SNOW.

I am doing the same knitting thing! I even went on to Ravelry (heard about it from the 30s Knitters) and queued up a bunch of things that it will probably take me 10 years to never to learn how to make. Knitting involves math and paying attention, it seems, and I am not good at either.

Wippy, if your dryer was going to burst into flames it would have done so in the middle of the night while you were asleep in your bed. Because THAT would be the worst possible scenario - if we lost our beloved Wippy. You are free to go and enjoy your weekend.

We get comp time for it. It has to used by the end of the academic year, but I'm going on vacation in Feb and I'll use it then.

So, yeah, we get compensated. But I didn't get to see my aunt or my best friend for Christmas as I'd hoped (because until 2 weeks ago, we were told we'd probably only have to come in one day each), and I didn't get to do any fun, vacation activities with my niece and nephew. And time off later isn't going to make up for that. If the office had just been open, I would have requested time off...but instead, we were just being required to come in.

I agree...our Winter is a lot cooler than any other form of winter

Other than leaving about one hour early from work, no fun for me really. Just working for that paycheck I guess

I'm eating way too many sweets since the holidays. The pear muffin I had two days ago was only okay, but this sour cherry muffin I have today is pretty darn yummy

What the Hell is a Butter Cookie and why has no one spoken of this before?!!!

Are they the same as a ....o crap...I forgot what they are called. The Scotts make them? Often in a cake tin? Then they put fork tyne marks in them? They're creamy colored? Come ON!. They're flaky and buttery and omg I love them so much I'm only allowed to buy them at Christmas. I did buy some, but I hid them in a place only my kids could find, apparently. Because when I went back to find them they were all gone, so none for me.

SHORTbread cookies!!!!!!!! That's what they are called. (don't kid yourself. I didn't remember. I had to ask DS#1. He knew what I was talking about. He knows everything. It's annoying and useful all at the same time. but I digress...) Are they like Shortbread cookies?

I may have had too much caffeine today...or the cold med i'm taking is laced with uppers.

3) *snort* yes and no. It depends. Lace and cables and textured stuff, yes you need to pay attention and count. Stockinette and garter? Not so much. Well, for a sweater or something you'll have to count stitches on occasion, but for the most part you can just go.

Well, I haven't really started knitting ANYthing yet, besides a scarf. I've been practicing just the regular knitting. EVENTUALLY, I'll get to those projects. I hope! And apparently I knit with a less efficient method - it's English versus something else and I use the one that "throws the yarn". I tried the other version and it's not as comfortable.

SO, I bought prime rib to make for NYE dinner. The kids both like steak so I figured they'll like prime rib, and it's something just more special-ish than steaks. I am actually kind of scared to cook it. It's a nice and expensive cut of meat to possibly ruin. I'm also going to make popovers and let the kids decide whether they want mashed or baked potatoes. And a hearty green salad. And Chocolate Decadence for dessert. C will also be joining us but I don't really have to worry whether or not he'll like it. He says he likes everything I make. I have a cheap bottle of bubbly to open, DD likes the cork popping part of it and she wants to taste it. I might have a sip or two but I'm not crazy about the bubbly and C doesn't drink. Hence the cheap bottle - it's really only for the POP at midnight. And I'll be lucky if I can stay awake that long. Lame. I know. And movies and puzzles. I want to watch Inception, anyone have any others to recommend?

crap. I just discovered one of the missing suet cakes outside. I put two in this double suet cake holder and then one day the thing was clean empty. I don't know how it got out of the holder and on to the deck. So technically Pico found it, looks like he was snacking on it. How sick do you think he'll be? ugh. And I still don't know where the other one is and HOW DID THEY GET OUT?

My math is off. I need to rip out several inches worth of knitting (size 3 needles!!!), including color work. FECK. So as to not freak out Goon, this is a pattern I'm making up myself, and it was a stupid error on my part that I should have caught 4 inches ago. But I want it how I want it, and won't be happy with it if I don't fix it, so there you go. It gets fixed.

1) oooOOOOoooh. I made the turtleneck shrug. That is probably the easiest of what you've got lined up.

2) I cry a major BS to that. I knit English too (where you throw with your right hand) versus continental (where you throw with your left). I can knit as fast as those continental-ers, and even beat them in a knitting contest a bunch of years ago at the boy's yarn shop.
