Little miss evil and some time on the treadmill. Knee is grumpy. I didn't push it since we're traveling. I think it is just grumpy, not really hurt.

Yup, I hope all you sickos and lame-os heal up well...

I've run 7 days in a row now, but 5 of those have been 3 miles or less. So I haven't exactly been tearing it up. But I'm now only 2 miles away from my yearly mileage PR. I'll hit the TM tonight, and should set a new PR. And I'll try to do it on a decent kind of run -- hopefully more than 3 miles. So with only a couple days left in the year, I've cut it close with the mileage PR... but it looks like I'll make it...

For fun, here's the thread that we did back at the beginning of the year where we all listed our goals for 2010. I won't go over my results now. Maybe we should start a separate thread for that. (?)

For some reason my right leg/glute were really sore last night from yesterday's 9 miler. As a consequence, I decided to rest this morning. I think my level of exhaustion helped with that decision. I am not accustomed to 4:30 am yet. I did arms weights though and core work last night.

Good Morning!

Still dying here, if I'm not feeling better by this afternoon I'll have to put a call into the doctor's office. This is nuts and totally unexpected.

Ack, boB, last years goals . I just missed two by mere seconds!!! The sub-19 5k (19:05) and the sub 1:27 half (1:27:04). I didn't get my sub-3 at Eugene and I didn't get a chance in the fall to try again. I missed 7 out of the 12 months of the year, so I can't complain to have gotten that close to 2. On to 2011!!!!

Morning Gang -

I can't remember if I made any goals for 2010.

Uggg, Jen. Sorry you are having issues from your procedure. I hope it gets better soon!

I got 17.1 sucky miles done this morning. Probably not ideal to do my LR just 3 days after my 16 mile LR (w/ 10 at MP) and 1 day after a 10 miler with 5 at tempo, but sucky weather is heading our way tomorrow and we have out of town new years plans, so it had to be done!

Good runs and rests to all.

Okay, here were my goals for 2010. I had broken these into primary and secondary goals:

Primary goals:
1) Stay healthy and injury-free.

Well, not quite. The epilepsy thing wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, I suppose. But it did add a whole new health angle to my life that I wasn't expecting. Thankfully, I wasn't injured at all in 2010...

2) Run at least 5 marathons. Preferably in 5 new states.

Again, not quite. I did 4 in 4 new states (Oregon, Indiana, Minnesota and North Carolina). I skipped two others -- Phoenix AZ in January when my dad had his heart surgery, and Little Rock AR in March before I got the epilepsy straightened out.

Secondary goals:
1) A new marathon PR.

I actually was able to do this one. I got a shiny new 3 minute PR in Minnesota in October.

2) 1800 total miles.

I thought this would be a stretch, and it was. The drama in my life back at the beginning of the year pretty much killed any chance of this before it began. But as I've said, I did pass 1600 again, and am only 2 miles short of a new mileage PR with 3 days left in the year. I'll take it.

3) Lose a little weight.

Umm, no. In fact, I've put on a few pounds since Thanksgiving. Oops. After this holiday season, I gotta stop eating so damn much...

I'm surprised I didn't include the New Haven 20k on my list of goals. I've now done it 7 straight years, and I want to keep streaking there. If I had listed that as a goal, that would have been accomplished. So I didn't hit everything, but I think I did reasonably well on those goals, given all the circumstances...

Thanks for finding that thread boB!!

Here is what I listed:

Goals are simple to write but generally difficult to actually attain

Train consistantly
Eat better
I would like to PR in the half
Complete a couple of tris in the summer.

Analysis:

My consistency wasn't too bad. I had a couple of small injuries that kept that down, but overall I think this year was better than previous years on this point.

Eating has improved some, but my weight isn't where I want it.

Nope, no PR.

Yup! 2 sprint distance tris thissummer!!

Feel better, Jen and Kath! Nice running, RFTL.

My goals were:

Break 1:50 in a half marathon

Improve my Olympic tri performance... same race as 2008.

Stay injury-free and healthy.

Lift more weights. Do more yoga. Eat more fruits and veggies.

Epic fail on the first two. It's not that I didn't PR... I didn't even try! Surprisingly, 2010 did not include a half marathon or Olympic tri. That will change in 2011. I'm doing TWO, count 'em two!, Olympics this summer. Plus probably a fall HM. Go me.

I did manage to stay injury-free, save a few constant aches and twinges (knees and IT bands and hips, oh my!) that I don't bother complaining about. Aside from my major sleep issues, I'm pretty healthy. And the other stuff... well, all of that is a battle. Cookies are just yummier than veggies are! And if I had more time, I'd definitely be doing all the lifting and yoga I could handle, but as it is I find it so hard to squeeze it all in.

No complaints overall. I did my best. I'm ending the year feeling really good about things, and that's what matters to me.

6 miles this morning. Nothing spectacular, just a solid run. Now I've got to think about when to do my long run this weekend: I've got to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and I'm not sure I'll be able to get it done before I've got to be at work.

Re: last year's goals = epic failure on all of 'em.

Must do better in setting better short and medium length goals this year.

YES! Thank you boB for posting that thread! Godo kick in the pants to set some new goals!

Mine were:

Stay injury-free and healthy. Yep, pretty much. Nothing that took me out of training anyway.

Eat Clean (this will be the hardest thing to do methinks) Fail. Just....fail.
Continue with P90X strength training and power yoga stuff to work on reshaping things. Nope, as my marathon training mileage increased, I just didn't have enough time in the day to get both done. But I've been starting back up again.
Sub 2 hour half marathon Nope, I gave it a good try though, just had a crappy hot weather day. I'll have to make this a 2011 goal.
PR marathon Yep! At the TC Marathon in October.

So, perhaps the New Haven 20k should be a 30's meetup, sounds like a good show!!

Good afternoon all and Merry Christmas!!!! Still playing catch up on the threads from my time away but it looks like lots of great stuff around here. The family and I had a phenomenal week in OBX including plenty of snow the day after Christmas. The giant green house served us well again and I am beyond thankful for the time and the running partners during that time. Will be getting out for a run this evening after work, I'm only 24.2 miles away from 2500 miles for the year and I don't want to let that slip away being so close.

For those of you that didn't see J's masterpiece on Facebook, may I present Frozen Banks (needs sound)

my history has been this:
write my goals down and make them public then proceed to get injured in short order. so, since i'm already injured what harm can it be to make a few of my goals public?

- get healthy (mainly this back thing)
- maintain my weight where it was (not where it is now)
- get at least 1 core/weight and swim workout in per week and don't be so stupid and try to increase my upper body strength all at once in one workout.
- 1/2 marathon and marathon pr
- tri
- a muddy & bloody trail race
- find a way back to 5 runs/week

and the real stretch goal...
- sub 3:21 marathon.

ok, there i said it. the gods are listening, right? i'm doomed.

cripes, I knew i shouldn't have written anything!!!!

so the only thing i accomplished was making my back healthy. for now.

i give the rest of it an archie bunker raspberry.

no predictions/wishes/resolutions/goals for 2011. sorry, i'm not playing with fire again.

off to the gym!

-"lame-o"

I didn't post in the goal thread. Probably because I don't generally think in long-term ways like that. I tend to get an idea in my head when I come upon it and then go after it without really making it public. I'll keep it that way for 2011, with the following exception: I want to get confidence in my calf back.

***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Busy day today. Ran 5.25 miles (again dodging icy, snowy spots and fighting with cars for road space) and then got my hair cut/highlighted and then went to work.

Feel better Kath and Jen! Jen - did you call the doc? What did he say?

Maria - great video! And WHOA! impressive mileage!

Missy - your preggers mileage is super impressive, too!
