Good Morning Kicksters!

That extra piece of pie last night and 16F made for a very un-sproinky 8 miles this morning. 1:11:16 (8:55). I decided not to fight it and enjoy myself anyway. I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful day with friends and family.

Hey crew...I have been MIA for about 4 months now. Pelvic Stress Fracture!! Ouch.

Anyhow...Ok...first of all, I only did 2.5 miles.

Temp was/is a balmy 25F...light snow falling adding to the 4+ fluffy inches we got last night. Not a sole in sight on the trail. Sweet bliss at 630am!

I really enjoyed the run as this is only my second run after 4 months of recuperation. I got home, hooked up the Forerunner to the PC to download the data and...holy shit! 10 min/mile for an avg pace. I knew the snow was deep and I was really struggling, but that was disheartening to see on the screen.

Oh well, Thursday is a rest day and Friday is my next day to run.

Good morning all,

I OD'd on chocolate yesterday so I knew that I'd have to go out there & get all the bad stuff out of my system this morning.....

8.03 miles of hills @ 9:10 pace on a rainy, windy, raw morning but I'm starting to feel better and getting back to normal.

Good runs to all today

Good Morning
Maybe some light XT and a 3 miler later.

I'm more tired now than before I went to sleep.
I need food, I think.
It appears that I may hit close my 2007 goal weight after all.
Coupla weeks ago I about gave up around 4 lbs shy of my goal, but I've had a loss surge that put it back in play.
All I gave up was my favorite snak----corn chips.

I could stretch a mile,
but I'd have to walk back.
ToddEP, slow and steady...you'll get there. It must feel great just to be running again, huh?

I did 4 chilly miles on patchy icy sidewalks in the dark this morning. I managed to stay upright the entire way, so consider it a success. I OD'd on all manner of good food the past few days. Now it's time to start undoing the damage. (I'm still waiting on oats to try SS's 7-grain cereal...maybe oats will be in at the store today?)

Good day, all.

Hey Peter, Tory and I were out in that too!

RAIN, WIND and 38F wore running jacket and cap along with tights, shorts gloves and a tee. Worked fine, felt warm. Tory was fine too (but not thrilled). 8 miles in 1:16:17 (9:33 pace AHR 148 ). Missed all the puddles!
Actually kind of enjoyed it. I'm taking it easy to let an irritation on the inside of the knee joint calm down. Better today but still noticed it after running (not during run). Something is rubbing something.

Hope Santa was good to ya!

Yesterday was a rest day for me. I see many of you have been running then and now-good job! Sally, it does seem wrong that Coach expected you to do your hill workout on Christmas, but glad you enjoyed it anyway. Nice break from cooking, I guess. Glad the Labducks got a white Christmas!

A have a little story about my Garmin 205. Yesterday morning after grinding my coffee beans, which woke up the kids, we quickly exchanged presents. They chose me to go first, and I opened a small package that was shipped by UPS, so of course I was expecting it to be my Garmin, only to find...

An electric jumprope. They say the look on my face was priceless. I said thanks anyway and then DW admitted that she had no idea why amazon.com shipped that to us. Fortunately, a few minutes later, when it was my turn again, I opened another box that actually had the Garmin in it. Turns out the company in California, the name of which I don't recall at the moment, sold both items, one to us and one to a lady in Virginia, but put my shipping label on both. She was probably much more disappointed than I was! DW is calling the company today to see if they want to pick up the lady's jumprope and send it to her.

So, the Garmin battery is charged and I'll try it out after work, weather permitting. We're back to winter weather after near-record highs.

I ran 8.25 miles this morning. Tried to get DH to go with me, he opted for the gym instead. Beautiful day here! 30 degrees and sunny. Calf still hurts. Annoying!

Have a wonderful day!

All you early morning in the dark, ice, rain, blistery cold runners make me feel ashamed about my "on the TM" run postings. You all are so inspiring to me. Like everyone else, I sure enjoyed all the wonderful food available to me in the last two days. Since I only put in 2 miles yesterday, I must stay focus on my running this week. After all I have a marathon to run in one month. Now, if I ran yesterday a 22 miler like JJJ I would not be worrying about my food intake right now. I have an 8 miler planned on the TM after work.

By the way, JJJ, how on earth were you able to fit in that LR yesterday? You must be a fast runner. For a slow runner like myself that would take me half a day and the other half to recover.

ToodEP, I celebrate your second run post injury with you. Take it easy as you return to your running.

Good 8 miler perchcreek and tory.

Mustang Sally- great run yesterday. You rock girl.

Opie has a garmin, opie has a garmin, hooray!!!

Thanks Lynden. It is good to be remainded of that once in a while. Due to my asthma I am confined to running on the mill the majority of the time during the winter months.

How is my little girlfriend Emily doing? I was thinking of her the other day when someone commented on the fridge magnet she gave to us in Bellynham. She is such a sweetie.

Hey Mike, I always think IronMike when I see your handle. Way to show that piece of pie who's boss.

Todd, congratulations on your comeback.

Nice run, Peter. It sounds like your marathon recovery is going well.

JJJ, ^5 on the imminent accomplishment of your goal.

tomwhite, when pharmacists get sick, how good are they at following their own advice? Just wondering.

Nice upright run, Marie.

{{perch's knee}}

Electric jump rope, huh? That sounds dangerous, or useful for a practical joke.

{{gin's calf}}

Hey lynden, I'm headed for some of that Wii XT now myself.

10 miles with 6x800 (goal=3:35, actual=3:34, 33, 44, 44, 30, 29, avg=3:36). I seem to remember a couple hills in there somewhere.

Happy Boxing Day to all you Canajuns.

Hey gang, I am at work today and didn't sleep well last night, maybe cause I fell asleep too early. Anyway probably going to weight train later.

What I wanted to say was there is a very interesting discussion on BQ here
http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/sho...678#post454678

Hello Princess Butterfly.
A few more detail about yesterday if interested.
Oh no there's not a fast bone in my body.
Half a day is about right.
But I do recovery quicker in the short run at least than I used to. DW and I have a standing joke about that.
I didn't even get out bed early, on Christmas, guess you can tell the kids are all grown and mostly gone.
After gift exchange (And Tom I got my new favorite T-shirt
"The National Sarcasm Society...like we need your support" )
I tried to convince myself and others I could run to the top of Holston Mt
and run down to DAMascus on the AT and maybe a little more to make about 22 and get to out the friends house about supper time.
Somebody would've had to pick me up in DAM. I lost that little battle, for my own good.

Well I still had to get my LR gear together.
I ended up with compression shorts under CWX tights,
and compression S/S,
a tech L/S and hoodless fleece that I won as a door prize at my last race,
head wrap,
short injinni socks plus a pair of Thorlos,
Montrail Continental Divides,
3 liter hydation pack with a hand-held for Succeed Clip2,
3 clif Shots (didn't use), one Clif bar (did use), extra pack of Clip2 (did use),
iPod and camera.
Garmin and HRM
I think thats all
Oh yeah my purple gloves from Mal Wart @ $0.37 each. Can you believe it?
Sometimes feel like a running REI store.

Breakfast was 2 glasses of water with a splash of juice.
I walked half mile to the rail-trail, It was well after 11am by now.
I ran about two miles @ 12:00+ and took a stretch break and packed the fleece.
Temp about 40* but the early sunshine didn't hold up through the day.

My goal for the first 8 miles is HR<138, and did OK.
I had to take pee breaks every 2-3 mile first coupla hours (gimme a break).
I had thought of just running 5.5 out and back each way on the trail,
but after 11 I sometimes think up reasons not to run 11 more. So I just did a long out and back to keep me honest.
About 10 miles out I turned off the iPod and grabbed a stick as I was out where my canine friends confronted me 2 weeks ago.
Just in case.
At 12-13 miles I was past the turnaround and back in DAM. I took a time-out for a walk break. My hip joints get ornery on cool damp long runs, bought and took some IBU and had my Clif Bar. Also put my fleece back on, I lose heat on long runs sometimes.

This made coming back easier, plus it's very slightly down grade.
The first 8 miles were 12:09 AHR 138, the next 13.5 miles 11:25 AHR 145. The last .5 has 6OOm on a 3% grade to bring the trail to a river bridge, I did at 'bout 8:35 pace -current 10K. Then a half mile walk home.

Millbot turning us on to ice baths is gonna show some big recovery dividends I think.
I get a few lbs of ice ready, sit in an empty tub, turn on the cold water,
and after a few inches of water pour in the ice and think about Panama.
In 10 minute you'll be ready to Par-tay.
Or just a shower and a card game maybe.
That's all I could muster.

I think I have a 24M stand alone.
Over the next month I'm going to focus on MLRs and LR back to backs
to get ready for the 50k in Feb.
Happy Boxing Day! So, who's boxing today in celebration of it?

OrangeMat - congrats on your first double digit run! I remember the first time I hit a 10 mile run - just last year - and it is quite a feeling of accomplishment to hit a new distance that one isn't always sure they can do!

Todd - welcome back and sorry to hear of the stress fracture. I hope you are healed completely and enjoying your return to running!

Peter - I am with ya on the chocolate overload! Both DH and I said we have never eaten so many sweets, and primarily chocolate, as we have in the last 3-4 days. I'm actually sick of the thought of eating more sweets and snacky things. I know it's probably impossible to gain 5 lbs in just 3 days, but that's how I feel. A very bloaty feeling. ughh.

LabDucks - I saw the pics of the white portland on the news last night! I hope you are enjoying it! We have a dusting down here today. Still nothing like what I am used to growing up in MN, but this is actually better because I know it'll be gone in a few days, instead of not being gone til around April!

Opie - that's a funny story of you opening up the electric jump rope . . . I'm not quite sure what an electric jumprope is? is it something like electric fences to keep cattle in? electric jumprope to train someone to swing that rope high enough and not hit your head with it?

Mari - when do you leave for Paraguay and what day will your marathon be down there?

JJJ - wow - that was an impressive read up above there. nice job on that superduper long run!

After three days of gluttony, I'm leaving work early today to run a few errands, then heading to the gym for a much needed run and possibly the yoga/pilates class at 6:30 if the timing works well with my planned run.

Tammy, I leave on January 21, yeahh. I will let you know when my Solathon is going to be. Will you run a mile or two with me (virtually that is).

JJJ, you determination amaze me. I enjoyed reading the description of your run. I am dying to see the famous "t-shirt". So..did you get the chance to play cards in the evening with your friends?

Yes, Mari, that is why I inquired as to what day your solathon is! If it's on a day I will be able to run, you can imagine me running at least 5 miles by your side!
