I won and that's fun!

I was a nervous wreck just like any other race, even though it was just an untimed fun run. Driving to another suburb on the other side of the metro, I was a mile down the street when I realized I forgot my Garmin, so I turned around & got it. I still had time to get there and warm up before the race. I chatted with a dad pushing a stroller and a 7th-grader who wants to run cross-country or track next year.

The 7th-grader and a few others went out really fast but fell back very quickly. There was a kid and a 30-something woman ahead of me. This was an out-and-back, and when I had the turn-around in sight, I took those two. I had a substantial lead the rest of the way. A kid said to his mom, "Look how fast that guy is!" The TV news caught it all, and if you've ever won a "real" race you know that feeling I had when I crossed the finish. I did another mile cooldown.

My time was 7:36, not a P.R., but I didn't expect that. 2.11 more miles at that pace and I will have a huge 5k PR this season!

Opie - Wow! Congrats on a speedy win! ( you should have just left mr. garmin at home )

Not so speedy here this morning. Went for my first double digit run in a while (since Hartford 1/2). 10 miles working on and off on form and trying not to overstride. Wish I could see what I was doing . . . I saw a fun size Snickers bar on the side of the road - must be someone's dropped loot from Halloween. I was tempted, but resisted Followed up the run with .5 bf around the street.

congrats opie! some more speed work and a new 5k pr is yours for sure.

pink, i've got a barrel of halloween candy i can mail to you... send me your street address, ok?

had a great long run today: 10mi alone starting early (4:25, ugg) but then the last 12mi with dave and some with todd... i have never run badly with those two. ran 4mi aiming at 6:30 pace starting at mile 16 and we ran 6:33, 6:30, 6:36 and 6:23. in that last mile i was wondering why i was tying up so much and breathing so hard, since i had felt great for the first three... so 6:30 is right at my limit apparently. anyway, 7:45 avg for the whole 22mi workout.

i'll sound like mr. obvious for sure, but this is the second good quality 20+ miler i've done since running consistent 70 mile weeks... running that weekly distance really really pays off for me. 10 weeks to go before the phoenix marathon, and i'm hoping to keep at the mileage and work on some specific race-type training in december.

nap time, plan to stuff my face all day, and then maybe a little cycling tomorrow... there's a group 80mi ride that i'm going to try.

Opie! Way to go!

Our first cold front of the season came through yesterday leaving picture perfect running weather for this morning; 56° and 34% humidity. (When does the humidity EVER get this low?) So as a result, I ran harder than I should have probably. But there was no way I was missing out on running strong on this day. I hooked up during the middle miles with a guy who was out for a 20 miler in preparation for Palm Beach next month. Yee Gads, his 20 mile pace was my tempo pace. But I felt good aerobically throughout.

8:07

8:17

8:02

13.2 miles in 1 :50 and change (8:23 pace). Tinman had me pegged for 8:18 per mile for Marathon Pace. It'll have to feel a lot easier than this one did to do this twice.

Tomorrow I sing a Solo at all three Chruch services. Yikes. Pray for me that I'll hit that high note ...

mc - so you can just pour it along side of the road? BTW - awesome LR! I guess 70 mile weeks do work for you. Enjoy your "little" cycling tomorrow.

opie - as someone always says - it's noon somewhere! Enjoy! You worked hard for it!

MC, heck of a long run, nice pace. Bill, that is my most recent Half PR, I think I ran 1:49 this spring. Well done Opie and glad you went back to get your Garmin in time!

Business travel got in the way of my running this week, a different city each day, then flying out that night, and I got really tired. Cleveland, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh this week. Only ran once, and had a weekly total of 9 miles. I am running a Half tomorrow and hope I am not too stale, but I did a fiveK one week ago so I should be all right. Anyway, the weather is going to be superb and all my friends will be there, so I am pretty excited. Spareribs

Morning all.

Good racing Opie. I thought about coming up there to run the 5K, but really needed to get a long run in this morning. I've got my eye on a 5K next month for a PR and OA placing (some serious cherry-picking involved).

Have a great weekend.

Nice racing Opie.

MC - that is a terrific run

Pink - I think you are worrying too much about your stride and cadence. You've run long enough and well enough that your stride and cadence probably are just perfect for you.

Nice run Bill

Good luck Ribs and Pau the cherry picker.

2 mile warmup this morning before a small 5k. Finished 3rd oa. in 19:02 and 1st master by just about a minute. This is 30 secs slower than I ran last year on this course but I'm not in as good of shape and had a pretty good training week; so ok. 5:50, 6:02, and 6:04 plus 1;06. Winner ran 23 secs faster than I. 36 degrees and slight breeze at start. Perfect.

Cracking long run efforts from Bill and MC

I did a track marathon 105.5 laps of a 400 metre track or 106.5 as it turns out finishing 2nd

Ran to a plan from the start with my fastest 5 miles being 20-25 and when I say fastest we are not talking a lot of seconds. Time 2.56.01 including a negative split.

Not a lot to say as I just repped laps out from the start and during the 2nd half watched the flyers come back to me, everyone came back except the winner who ran 2.40 ish

Just flurries but it's the thought that counts.

I didn't even go to watch or help to Masochist this year. I feel bad about not supporting the home team but they are running at the top of their game now and I know they will do fine.

Slept in and slithered to the farmer's market late. It's cushaw season and is always fun to yack about the queen of winter squash with the growers.

Didn't run at all yesterday, even though I felt nary a bit of soreness from Thursday's 20.

I felt pumped to run. Scarfed down a latte, a horse-sized blueberry scone and a little breakfast burrito and headed for the barn. It's mostly down hill and the weather was S.U.P.E.R.B. By 1.5, the burrito had kicked in and I started running 800 brisk and 800 recovery (5x) with 1.5 cooldown. No exact pace on the 800s but the brisk mustah been pretty brisk 'cause the overall pace was HM+ a few seconds.

Was pleasantly pooped at the end but not wasted.

Taper Time.

I promise,

6 miles in 1:00:46, 6:45am, 39 F, no wind. Such wonderful weather, but sure wish my right hip would quit being so gripy.

Second half was just flat-out painful. Not enough to limp, and apparently not enough to slow my pace either. Second half was 30 seconds faster.

Worked on some stretching afterwards, noticed that right piriformis is definitely tighter than left side.

I'm beginning to think I should go get this looked at now rather than waiting until next year. After all, our family deductible has already been met since we usually have 1-2 MRIs and several x-rays by this time of year. DS2 is going to start glowing if anything else needs to be x-rayed.

It's just interesting to observe the pain as it changes during the run. First half, no big deal. Knife starts sticking in during 4th mile. Sometimes the right knee joins in, sometimes not. Sometimes I change my stride to more of a shuffle, or change my pelvic tilt, which seems to help. Then I think about how wonderful the left leg feels - no problems at all.

Other than the hip, it's really nice being able to think of a 6 mile run as a "short" run. Used to be a "long" run last year. Now I'm tired, and flopped on the couch, but it's not really from the run. It's more from staying up too late last night and then getting up early to run this morning. Extra hour of sleep tonight will be sweet!

One of DS2's baseball games done, another one at 4pm, at least one tomorrow. Sunny and 68 F now - what a great weekend! Watching this crazy Illinois/Michigan football game in 3rd OT - 59-59! Sounds more like a basketball score....

Opie-ster!! Way to go Econo on those two. Did you push them down just for icing on the cake?

Seriously, any all out win is a super ego boost. Now you can never slower than 7:30s!

Just adding in my own super cool 5k run. Nothing special except it was with EVanFlein! The people around here got such a kick from Erika and Peter thinking it was downright balmy! Heh.

Byll, think about a hips-first ice bath on the hottest Florida day of the year. That oughta get you to that note. Fine running too.

Great runs and races; hard to know where to start ... except to say that it's nice to see Ribs back.

Excellent, Opie!

Holy spins, Gobi. That sounds like hell to me. Congrats on 2nd.

ksrunr, I know you're not where you were last year, but I'm enjoying seeing the progress and the variety of w/o's you're doing.

I was wondering when we'd hear about evanf's visit. Thanks, Pro. If it's not too late, say hi to Henry and Marj for me. I miss hearing about their adventures. La Tee too.

JJJ! You've been a great volunteer; you're running well and enjoying it, so no shame in thinking about your own running for a spell.

Gee. Thanks for that, tomwhite.

Saturday means meetup with the other club to run the trails. Mud, blood, and beer. Okay, maybe no beer. Enough mud to make it fun. Few steep hills to climb, a smattering of bush-whacking. No watch, so don't know how long, how far. Probably an hour.

I love these runs because people and their dogs join in, including Mustang Sally and Hamish. Hamish hit the water first ... and often. It's like running with a pack. Loads of fun.

Arranged to meet with some others to do more trails tomorrow. MS made blueberrry pancakes after. I was well-behaved, so I'm invited back for dinner.

Excellent mile, Opie!

A TRACK marathon, Gobi? Aren't you dizzy? Congrats on the 2nd placing!

Nice LRs MC!

G/L on those high notes, Byll!

WTG on the 5K hardware, KS!

I got a major giggle out of that song, TW! It must be driving you crazy! Forgive me, but I'm thinking there's some kinda karma there .

Say "Hi!" to MS, SS!

The training partner and I got 10 nice and slow miles on our favourite trail this morning. 1°C to start, with some snow on the ground in places. Despite one spot on the glute spasming on me off and on all day yesterday, the run felt terrific and the feet/ankles were just peachy!

Dropped by my LRS after to pick up some Gu's and heard that the wife of the owner, who ran her first 50K in May and her first 50 miler in September, is now planning to run a 100 miler at the end of Nov! I just shook my head and told her hubby to wish her luck. She's good, but she's going to need it.

Nice win there, Opie! DH wants to know how many kids you had to push out of the way? Did you go Econo on those munchkins?

Holy crap, mc. That's quite a run. I don't think I could do 70 mile weeks without ending up on the DL. Seems to work for you, though.

Nice run, Byll! I agree... you gotta take advantage of those days when you get' em.

Hey Sans Souci! Here's some news on my trip! (the following is mostly copied from RA, so that's why it looks different font, etc)

I'm having a wonderful time here in MA/NH!

Thursday I ran 4.2 on the treadmill with mile 4 at 8:00 m/m pace. 8:20 sure feels better though... then off to see La Tortuga and we picked up a sandwich before heading up to Walden Pond, where she swims in the warmer months. Even the steady rain and wet feet couldn't damper my spirits. It's always so fun to meet up with her. Afterward, I met Deez4boyz (Denise, posts mostly at RA) at LaT's house, and we headed up to Derry NH to visit her hairdresser. The gal used to work right next to Denise's house, but moved recently so we had a road trip to go see her. I'll post my "after" shots later, but trust me when I say it hasn't been this short since I was a kid!!!

Then we met up with Marj and Henry, Robin, and La Tortuga at Redbones for dinner and beer. What a fun group! Denise took me back to my hotel afterward and then headed back home. Lots of driving for her, and I so appreciate her doing that. I offered to take the T back to my hotel, and she wouldn't hear of it.

Friday morning DH and I had a leisurely morning, lunch at the hotel then walked around Boston a bit before heading back to the airport to get our car. Drove out to ProFromDover's where we had dinner with Econo, Pro, Orapin and her DH Ben, and friend Bob. Lots of wine, good food, laughter and chatter. The night got late far too soon and we all stumbled off to bed.

This morning we got up to Econo making breakfast of veggie omelets and pancakes. She seems to think she can't cook, but it sure was good! Pro took her back to Boston while DH and I straightened up, packed our stuff and waited for Pro to come back. When he did, I convinced him to go for a run with me, and it was a nice 5k through neighborhood roads in ideal conditions. We covered the miles in 8:38, 8:32 and 8:32... how's that for consistent pacing? Then after I took a much needed shower and finished packing up, hugs and thanks to Pro, we headed up the road to Manchester.

Met Lamerunner (another RA poster) at the Expo, got my bib and goodie bag, stopped at the store for tomorrow morning's breakfast stuff, then checked into our hotel. We're having dinner at Lamerunner's this evening, and our clocks are already set for tomorrow. The race starts at 8:50, and with daylight savings that's like 9:50... Temps look good, conditions look ideal, and if today's run is any indication, I'm ready to roll! I think I'll be wearing my long sleeved Equinox shirt though. Seems just chilly enough that long sleeves will be good, but I'll be wearing my good ol' running skirt.
