Thank you veterans, future veterans, and their families.

5.75 miles this morning in the dark and mist, sprinkles, rain, and 64 degrees. Wonderful. Will run same route again tonight but will be much warmer before a cool front comes in this weekend.

Only 3 miles in the dark and mist, snow, wind and 31 degrees. We were almost twins KS! Except for the number of miles, rain vs snow and temps.

Laura, I puttered around the house like you this morning. And by the way, we're getting the Astros AAA franchise here now. Nolan Ryan moved the Rangers' franchise to Round Rock so they're switching.

I'm very excited about my run. A mile warmup, mostly in the grass where I could find it, over to a different park than where I usually go. 2 miles tempo pace, by effort, and the first mile felt comfortably hard like it's supposed to, but the second mile just felt hard! When I got back here and plugged in the Garmin, I was amazed to find a 7:50 and 7:51! I felt like I fell off that 2nd mile but I must have increased the effort to keep the pace up. I need 1.1 miles more now at that pace! Same mile cooldown as the warmup.

Then I gave my next door neighbor a (Vietnam) Veteran's Day greeting, and he was very appreciative. Our politics are completely opposite, but sometimes you have to put some things aside.

eta-So far this month my average running pace is the fastest it's been for any month this year!

Rememberance Day here in Canada. We wear poppies here to commemorate those who sacrificed to keep us free. My boss was in town last week, and bought one to take back to NJ and wear today.

Lab........ TMI, but I hope the procedure goes well.

Thanks for posting the hip exercises SS and Laura. I will start on those myself today and see if if makes a difference.

Will run after work, TM or the local track, depending on how I feel.

Have a lovely day everyone!

7+ foggy miles in the woods today, felt surprisingly better than during yesterdays crummy 4 mile run, which just about had me bagging it completely. Didn't though. I think the difference was all the pizza rindaroo & I ate yesterday (alright, all the pizza I ate yesterday)......missed you Tamster, but I know you're busy.

I've been off 3 days, partly because of tapering, but my left calf tightened up unexpectedly 24 hrs after a good hard Saturday run.

I dare not run on it until I knew the lay of the land.

By yesterday it seemed to be gone, but when I started running it came back somewhat -not really bad or at all painful.

I ran about 5+ miles easy pace on asphalt that felt like I was floating - even up hills.

Calf today is slightly sore if I test it, but nothing to worry about I think.

opie, that's a great workout... when you feel like you're falling apart and slowing down and you only drop 1 sec per mile. next time you feel that way, keep going through it because you know you're only dropping 1 sec. sometimes our bodies lie to us; my advice is -- don't listen!

10mi 7:30avg; first 2 i jogged at 8:30, then i averaged 7:15 for the last 8... just because i felt good. ran a 6:18 last mile... heck yeah! i love running when the temp is below 60f... it's paradise...

more miles this afternoon, and some cycling on the trainer tonight after dinner.

Heme, I know you've served, so thank you. I wore my poppy on my run. I captioned the services downtown today; always proud to be able to give that service for those, like my dad, who also sacrificed their hearing to serve. Still think we need a "Three Cups of Tea" approach to try to eliminate conflicts for good.

thanks, mc, and wear a sweater next time to slow you down in those cool temps! It was 50's & overcast here so that works for me.

I just got another code for a free apparel item from Brooks for the media coverage of the race. The funny thing is, they cut out the good stuff from the mile & 5k but still had a shot of me in my Brooks gear at the check-in table beforehand. And I was wearing an item I got free from them this spring.

A big thank you to all the veterans out there, my FIL included, who served in the Korean War. Yes, I agree, Opie, politics aside, we can still say thank you.

Had a lovely run in the park today, 8.3 miles, 9:11 avg pace. It was late morning by the time I set out, so rather than have a piece of fruit, I had two GU Chomps right before starting the run. I swear, those things are like speed chews for me or something. Every time I've had them at the start of a run, my legs just take off, super sproinky style. Kinda feels like I'm cheating, though. But then again, there's no way I can metabolize what's in those so fast like that. So maybe it's just been a coincidence.

Though speaking of cheating, the last time I lost a bunch of weight, I was taking these designer vitamins that my erstwhile personal trainer coerced me into buying from her. As soon as I stopped taking those vitamins, I blew up, so you make the call. But this time, all I've done is change my diet and up the mileage (I'm down 20 lbs since July, btw). Kinda feels surreal, actually, because it really hasn't been that difficult. As Holly from RA would say, it's nice to see daylight between my thighs.

Good luck with the procedure, Labduck.

Heme, how's the hip/glute doing? I need to review those exercises, since I always like to keep up on good therapeutics, just because.

Yep OM, frozen peas will be my friend this weekend. Oh boy.

Let me add my thanks also to all that have nobly served my country, as well as those of the Commonwealth. Thank you.

I'm taking today off from running to rake leaves since I won't be allowed to for a week. I'm planning on trying to get a longish run in tomorrow before I go in for my procedure. Then it's nothing but football and beer for the weekend. Come to think of it, that really isn't much different than usual...

Remember the fallen. I am from a military family so this means a lot. Was not very impressed with the noise in certain quarters of the office this morning and afterwards I made my feelings clear. Respect to all who serve or have served.

A good day of training though as I start rolling off in preparation for another marathon this weekend.

Thanks, SS, but my 6 years in the reserves in peacetime don't count for much beside those currently dealing with Afghanistan. I spent my two minutes of silence thinking of my dad, who was a lieutenant in the infantry in WW2. Finished the war with a broken back from falling down a well house clearing in Holland. The emotional scars from that time stayed with him until he died.

5.6 miles after work around the neighbourhood before the sun went down, as the HS dirt track was too muddy. The glute is still pretty tight and a tad tender (thanks for asking, OM, and WTG on the weight loss!!!!! ), but behaved itself enough to make it a really good run. Did the hip exercises after and had a good stretch. Will hit the hot tub before bed tonight!

missed you guys, Johnny and Rinda. it's just been crazy at work.

My thanks also to those that served, currently serve, and those that will be serving. My dad and his parents were military also. Dad was AF and parents were Marines.

since Veterans Day is a judicial holiday, I had the day off. After my eye appt this morning I headed out for a long run. Had to stay the gym for awhile until my eyes adjusted since they dialated them. I did request the "reversing drops", so within about an hour, I could head outside for my run and the sunlight didn't bother me. Got in 10.5 miles today. Felt pretty good too.

My second day in at work, as miserable as the first, so I left early at 4pm. Thanks for all the well-wishes, though! Tamster, you said you had the crud this weekend -- how did you get over it so quickly? Wah.

I shall sneeze in evanflein's general direction. :) (Arm-length hugs are just not right!)

Hey, you can sneeze on me all you want after my next marathon/trip. Until then, back off, germ-bot! (hope you're feeling better soon, being sick sucks!)

6.3 miles tonight after work, untimed because I forgot my Garmin. (I *knew* there was something I was forgetting!) I had DH pick me up from my office at 4:30, headed to his office and changed, took off at 4:55 and ran a really nice, swept-clean route along the bike paths from his office. I measured my route on MapMyRun afterwards and got 6.3 miles total, in about 53 or 54 minutes. Hard to tell because I did a walk c/d before I went back to his office and asked what time it was. That's about the most casual timing of a run I can imagine. But it was good, legs felt strong and I didn't push the pace. Still came out to about an 8:25 to 8:30 average, if I got the time right.
