<span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">The short version is at the bottom.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">Today I had the honor of running my 100th race with my son as he ran his first 5K. This race was also the first race I did 6 years ago after I started running again in April of 2001. In the last 6 years and 3 months I have run over 8500 miles and raced a little over 700 miles. I have raced in 4 different states. I have run on high school tracks, sandy beaches, roads, hilly trails in NJ, and flat trails in St. Augustine. I have run what seems like every distance possible between 1 mile and 50K.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">1 Mile: 7 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">3 mile: 1 time</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">5K: 40 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">4 mile: 7 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">8K: 4 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">5 miles: 9 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">10K: times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">15K: 7 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">10 Mile: 4 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Half Marathon: 7 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">30K: 2 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Marathon: 4 times</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">50K: 4 times</span></span><br><br><span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">Yes a lot of people think I am nuts when I go out running during the Jacksonville heat or in the snow of New Jersey. I am starting to learn to accept that my body doesn’t like the summer heat and so my training pace is going to drop dramatically when compared to my pace in the fall and winter. I haven’t totally accepted it but I am getting better at it. I have lost about 20 – 25 pounds of body weight and 12 percent body fat. I can still remember the feelings I had when I hit the final 2/10’ths of a mile in my first Marathon and the joy I felt when I crushed my record for a 50K.</span></span><br><br><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">The whole family joined today and after getting loosened up, Jason and I lined up towards the back of the pack to ensure he doesn’t get run over and that he doesn’t start off to fast. The rain sprinkled on and off as we waited for the cannon. After the cannon, the crowd moves forward. We get almost to the first mile marker and he is ready for a break so we walk for a minute and then we start jogging again. We started a nice routine of jogging until he was tired and walking until he was ready to run again. We got through the second mile and he asked how much farther. He was getting tired but still running and walking. The entire time I jogged with him and kept on encouraging him. We made the turn for the final tenth; he saw the finish line and started his final sprint. His mom and sister were cheering from the sidelines as he finished up strong.</span></span><br><br><br><br><b><span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">Short Version:</span></span></b><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Mat to Start line: :30</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Mile 1: 1.00 in 9:57 (9:58 pace)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Mile 2: 1.01 in 12:37 (12:31 pace)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Mile 3: 1.00 in 13:52 (13:53)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Final .1: .11 in 52 (7:53)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Totals: 3.14 miles in 37:50 (12:04 pace)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Gun Time: 37:49</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Mat Time: 37:17</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Age Group Place: 51/53</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Overall Place: 413/443</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Son:</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Age Group: 10/13</span></span><br><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:medium;">Overall Place: 411/443</span></span><br><br><span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">Yeah it was my slowest time for a 5K ever but I had a fantastic time running with my son today who seemed to really enjoy it. After recovering for about 30 minutes he wants to try another one, so maybe in December I can get him to run another one.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-size:medium;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">I still have goals that I want to attain and hopefully in the coming years I can reach them.</span></span>
