Morning Gang -

Ended up being lazy yesterday and didn't run or do anything except eat! Got up and got 6.5 miles done this morning with random speedy stuff mixed in. Felt like a really good workout.

Good runs to all.

Good morning, guys. Oof, I'm tired today. The kiddo woke up a little after midnight, and my wife let her crawl into bed with us and spend the rest of the night there. That's fine, except that she's a bit of a kicker in her sleep. So I didn't sleep very well...

I'm pretty sore today, but I don't know if it's from the race yesterday, or because I started to put new insulation in the attic. We have an attic with very low ceilings, and there are a bunch of air vents that I need to crawl over and under. So I need to contort my body in some weird ways to move around there. The insulation that is currently up there is eons old and woefully inadequate. I feel like I spent 2 hours up there yesterday, and I only replaced one row of insulation. This project is going to take me all freaking Winter to get done at this rate...

Anyway, the results of my 5k race are posted online. Not only was I first in my AG, but I was 2.5 minutes ahead of the next guy! I guess it pays to enter a small race. Okay, there were only 6 people in my AG, but I'll still take the win. I have no idea whether it'll ever happen again, so I'll be happy with this one...

I think I'm gonna take the day off from running. Like I said, I'm feeling kinda sore. Maybe I'll crawl up into the attic again, but that'd be the only "exercise" I'll do today...

Congrats to Brandy and Baggs!

Nice work, Bob! AG win!

Saturday's tempo run went much better than last weekend's, thank goodness. Why are intervals so much easier (relatively speaking) than tempo runs? All I had to do Saturday was 1 mile w/u, 2 miles tempo, and 1 mile c/d. Those two miles sucked so much more than the mile repeats I did Thursday, even though the pace was much more tolerable.

This is not a rhetorical question. I really want to know... Does anyone else hate tempo runs as much as I do? Is it just all in my head? In other words, do they suck because you have to maintain a certain pace for a longer period of time, whereas in intervals you know they're gonna hurt BAD but at least they're short???

Tempo runs are hard for me mentally too. Intervals? No problem. But long tempo runs suck. I agree with Bob though in that they are great when you are finished. Sometimes I avoid them by racing instead. 5K or 10K = tempo for me when marathon training.

Morning!

Off day from running, but I did the butt tape and core stuff. Have another appmt with the chiro, so that will be fun. Hope I'm not too sore after, cause I have @ 50-60lbs of clay to wedge & need to start throwing pots. OOO! And I think I'm going to make a table.

Morning all! Easy miles on tap for this evening.

Congratulations boB, Brandy & Baggs!!!

Tempo runs - I have a love/hate relationship w/tempos... the pace is doable but the distance is always longer than intervals so it's way more mental for me to a). stay in the tempo pace zone and b). get comfortable running longer at that pace. I do believe though that the benefits you get from solid tempo runs outweigh a lot of other intervals, at least for longer distance running.

i'm in a really rough patch but managed to get out for 0.7 miles on sat and 2.0 yesterday afternoon. i know i should be sleeping when i can but running helps me cope as well and it feels really great to get out and pound the pavement with my frustration.

First run since the marathon. Nice easy 3 miles. Plus I added a better warm-up before and some core work after.

Yes. A small bedside table. With a drawer. I've actually been thinking about furniture (sculptural stuff) for a long time, but haven't made the move. Now seems like a good time.

And darnit, I was just at the hardware. I should have looked for some..... what are those screws without the heads called? Those.

Dunno how throwing is going to go today. Chiro worked on my hips & back today (he just did hips last time), and now my back ACHES from the middle down, which is going to be an issue for centering. Yarn bowls don't take many pounds of clay, but still. Hmmm.

Chiro discovered today my hips are rather ticklish. While I was snickering he said, "I'd rather have it tickle than hurt any day."

I forgot to congratulate cousin Bob on his AG victory, so WOOT for Bob!

I just mapped out a 1km circuit all on property at our new house on mapmyrun. It's got a little bit of everything so it should be a nice workout to start doing in the future. Maybe I can get Tycho to run it with me and he can cheat the course in a couple of spots. I figure if I run it in soccer shoes a few times I should be able to lay down a pretty good path. Then we can start saving some wood chips to put down for future improvements.
