Following up from a previous thread, lets have our own virtual swim meet. The USMS 1 hour postal meet is held every Jan and people follow a set of rules, swim for one hour in a pool with someone recording their laps/pace/total distance. Lets make this one simpler and have a repeat in June to check progress. So here's the game, between now and Feb 15, go to a pool of a measured distance (typically 25 yards or 50 meters but it doesn't matter). Warm-up then swim a continuous half or full hour recording your total distance, report back here. Its easier if someone records it for you but you can do it solo. Note what distance of pool we’ll just use the actual “25 yard pool” or “22 yard pool” whatever you’ve got, then the total in yards and meters (use a converter like onlineconversions.com) and if you wish, miles. We’ll announce a winning fish. Then in June we’ll resurrect the results and do it again to see if we go further. Anyone who wants to modify this plan, go ahead! You don’t’ have to sign up in advance but you can let us know you are going to attempt it and then of course the results! On your mark..get set…

Its all about how much you can swim when faced with your virtual competition, in fact you have a good chance of winning "most improved" in our second meet! You can pick either the 1 or the 1/2 hour challenge!
I am terrible at pools so you all may beat me. I tend to swim into the wall or over it among other amusing problems

Well, I'll start! I missed a swim workout with the team, so today was a good day to make that up and do the 1-hour postal challenge! I had no idea of how far I could go and in the end I was shooting for 120 laps, but I didn't get that far.

In an hour, I swam 111 laps in a 25-yard pool for a total of 2,775 yards.

I couldn't swim the offical postal swim with my team, but I see from the posted results that I would have came in dead last. Sigh. Always room for improvement!

1 hour, 3500 yd, had 15 seconds left, no wetsuit

I hoped that I could have gone further, but I have not been training nearly as much as I used to. I swam at a moderate pace the majority of the swim, the last 10 minues were a tad hard on my shoulders. I kept track of the laps with the lap function on my timex IM watch by hitting the button during the flip on every 100.

I would be willing to allow you to swim your laps in an aquarium.

I'm in! I'll have to do it outside of our regular practice though, I suppose - as the workouts are set up by the coach on deck. Maybe I'll drag my DH with me to the pool in the next couple of weekends to count/time me. I'm pretty sure I'll lose count if I attempt to do this by myself. Just post our results here?

I am late, but I think I am in!! 1hr straight swim wont' hurt my taper, will it . Would it be acceptable to finish this by 2/20, instead of 2/15?

I got in 3000 yrds in 1:00:06 so call it 2995 yrds.

That's the first time I've gone that far in a continuous swim. It was a bit of a struggle to maintain form in the last ten minutes.

One of these days I'm going to learn flip turns. Those open turns have got to costing me time.
